The Property:
The home was built by Union Colonel Sion Bass, who commanded the Indiana 30th in the Civil War. The home is tastefully decorated with a Civil War theme, with pictures of Sion and his men. This is in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne, with a Starbucks in our backyard, numerous dining options in the vicinity, and activities in all directions.

Guest access:
Enjoy the common sitting/main gathering room on the main floor. We provide snacks, and a large refrigerator on the main floor for our guests to use. Free parking is provided on site right behind the building. Garbage cans are located behind 517 West Washington next door for you to put your trash in as needed.

Guest interaction:
Our family lives just blocks away, and loves all downtown has to offer. We stop in once a day to check the snacks and beverages. I am always available via the App messaging platform, and can be on property in minutes.

Neighborhood overview:
West Central downtown is a magical space where people with souls reside. Sure, you can grab a tan cookie-cutter spot out in the burbs and care about the lawn, but why would you? This is where history, art, and friends meet. The West Central Neighborhood encompasses all of downtown west of Calhoun Street, the heart of West Central is its urban residential area, the development of which began as early as the 1830s. Because of the historic and architectural significance of this area, the West Central Neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and was designated as a Local Historic District as early as 1985.
The West Central Neighborhood was named the “Best Old House Neighborhood” in Indiana in 2010 by “This Old House Magazine.” The north side of the Neighborhood, along Berry and Wayne streets and Washington Boulevard, was where many of the City’s most prominent families built large, stylish homes. On the south side, situated between West Jefferson Boulevard and the former Pennsylvania Railroad tracks, exists a collection of modest, small-scale cottages arranged along narrow, tree-lined, brick streets. Many workers for the businesses and various industries stretching along the south side of the tracks resided in this area. The area opens into downtown, with restaurants, shops, and countless ways to get lost in the city. The Historic Sion Bass House straddles the edge of the neighborhood and downtown. You can be out the door and on an adventure in minutes.

Getting around:
Parking is steps away just in back of the building. We are on every major bus route in the city, and simply strolling distance to all downtown has to offer.

Other things to note:
In the summer, there is a large festival every single weekend. Our library is magnificent, and boasts the best genealogy department East of the Mississippi River (second in the nation, behind only Salt Lake City). The Barr Street Farmers Market every Saturday morning in the summer is a must see. You can be in the middle of everything in minutes.

Perfect central location for Genealogy reaearch
The location was great. Accomodation works well for singles in this room. I found my sleep mask and ear plugs helpful for restful sleep as W Washington is a busy street. However it made it easy to get where I was going and good off-street parking included. One caveate they need to upgrade the mattress.

Stay in Fort Wayne
Pleasant house right in the heart of downtown. Location was great and easy walking distance to restaurants. My only complaints were the street was very loud and busy. You could easily hear it in the room. I was also disappointed that i couldn't get any warm water for the shower.

Quick Stay
I found this cute little place and was instantly sold. Bed was comfortable, but note it is on the soft side. Location was perfect for quick walks to whatever we needed. The host was very communicative and made the check in process so easy. Would easily stay again!

Enjoyed the proximity
We enjoyed the stay at West Central. We were in town for the day/evening. The property manager was immediately available to assist with an access issue, which I mistakenly created. We were able to walk to several venues we desired to visit and drive to our ultimate location. Parking was easy and we felt safe. We'll stay here again for future trips.

Convenient location
It was nice! Simple and good communication. One note I would say is just a heads up that there are other renters IN the building. It’s a house and then you rent one of the rooms. I think I thought it was a few different homes close together. But it was nice, secure, we were able to walk to restaurants/bars within five minutes of there. It felt safe. No regrets!

Beautiful historic home.
We reached out to the property owner ,Mike, at a very late hour as we checked in late. He actually accepted our call and resolve all of our questions personally and promptly even though it was well past 10pm. He was an extremely accommodating host. Excellent location, easy to walk where ever. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were upgraded to a nicer room upon arrival and very much enjoyed our stay. We will likely stay here again. Everywhere we wanted to go in FtWayne was within a 10 minute drive or within walking distance. We enjoyed the unique architecture and historic furniture paired with the modern amenities of the beautiful, private spa bathroom. Walking distance to lots of shopping, pubs and restaurants.

Clean, cozy, quaint.
Beautifully restored historical house! Not quite sound proofed against the busy street it sits upon, but that didn’t detract from its charm and comfort in the least. Grab-and-go breakfast items really iced the cake here. The ambiance was incredible and the furnishings and amenities were spot on. I would absolutely stay here again!

Very nice renovated historical property turned into a guest house.
The Forester Suite is right next to the entrance to the house and the house's secure entry system has an audible number entry system like an ATM, and then makes a chime when the door locks. These noises are very noticeable from this room . So as long as you do not need quiet during the high traffic times of the morning and evening, no problem. Also this room faces the street traffic. Despite the noise, which really did not bother me, except for the honeymooners noise (use your imagination) loudly heard from the common hallway and living room downstairs (one night and morning only), I really enjoyed my week stay there. It is clean, nicely decorated and very affordable. It has a very comfortable bed, and an impressive multi-function shower. Mike was easy and available to communicate with and was eager to do a good job, and did.
