Great place despite the weather
We stayed at the Whaling Captain's home during a unseasonable rain storm. Though the weather outside was frightful, we stayed nice and cozy inside the house. Unfortunately, we were not able to do much with the beautiful backyard, but perhaps that will be for another stay. Thumbs up, Five Stars, all that good stuff.

The property was charming. The lockbox was very difficult to access and I was given two different codes to open it. Would have liked more info on how to get onto Wi-Fi - instructions were wrong, and info on how to find the bike would have been great. But generally very pleasant place.

Hello Gay - I'm sorry you found the lockbox difficult to locate and that you were not able to access the welcome package in the APP which has all the information clearly stated as well as posted in the home. I was available to you every time you called or texted and walked you through each step within minutes. After 11 years of 5-star reviews, I'm disappointed that these issues caused you any hassle. I will double-check and make sure to rectify anything and reiterate the information more clearly. Please remember, at VRBO, the majority of us are homeowners and not hoteliers so minor issues are often best addressed by direct communication rather than reviews. I am happy your stay was lovely otherwise.

Great North Fork Getaway
Great house with a beautiful garden in a fantastic location in Greenport. Perfect balance of short walk into town and enjoying all that the North Fork has to offer within a short drive. Three adults stayed comfortably and enjoyed a relaxing long weekend. Would definitely stay again!

Enchanting Haven
We felt so welcomed and every room we entered increased the sense of being in lovingly appointed atmosphere surrounded by art and furnishings, a fireplace stacked with wood, the artful curation of books and shells and beautiful but welcoming, comfortable furniture. We gathered in every cozy room when our son and his wife visited for dinner with our grandchild. The kitchen is so delightful to cook in and once you step out into the sweet deck in the back you are in a lush yard with a huge lilac tree and a tree swing and through the bamboo you discover the fountain and koi pond and a seating area. Pure serenity. The bedrooms are lovely and cozy and the bathrooms beautifully designed and modernized. We felt so at home. So relaxed and at the same time enchanted and renewed from being in such a home. Thank you Marcia

Best House Ever
Best house we ever rented. VRBO listing does not do justice to the house. It was fabulous, awesome decorations, something new every time we turned around. So much so, we hated to leave even to go out to dinner. The owners truly took pride in the house and maintained its historic charm in every room.

Special place
My husband and I and our Havanese, Max , spent much of the summer at Marcia and Robert’s beautiful home. The house exceeded our expectations. It is a gem and the garden with its water fall was an oasis. The house was fully equipped with all that one would need. Dating from 1821 It was tastefully updated retaining its charm. Close to town it was an easy walk to the many fine restaurants and shops. Beaches were near by both on the Sound and Gardiner’s Bay. We felt so at home here. Thank you Marcia and Robert for sharing your home with us. We can’t wait to return

Great location, charming house
Marcia's house is great location just a short walk into town, and the house itself is adorable and charming. It's listed as a 2BR but there is actually a small 3rd BR as well. The yard also is very well manicured and we enjoyed relaxing back there as well. Overall would definitely recommend and stay again.

perfect in every way
We had the chance to stay at this beautiful 1820s fully renovated home. The house is so beautiful, and well equiped for your every need. The kitchen is stocked perfectly with anything you would need to do some cooking. The house was immaculatley kept, and lived in with care. The backyard is beyond what we epected. It was a lovely hidden oasis. The house is only a few short blocks from the center of Greenports quant little town. Marcia was super easy to work with, and always available. We will definitly be back. We recommend this house to all. Dont hesitate rent it fast!

Amazing Stay
We can’t say enough about our stay in Greenport. Marcia is an amazing host, paying attention to every last detail. The place is decorated, with everything you could ever need and above all immaculate. We felt right at home the minute we walked in the door. The location is perfect for exploring the best of the North Fork. A gem of a find.

The best
Beautiful home, magical setting. Greenport is charming and bustling and the house is a 5-minute walk from downtown. It’s also close to many local farmstands and wineries. Only small negative - and this is not the house or its owner - is that going to the beach was a pain. No beaches are really walkable and only two beaches allow parking without a town parking permit and they’re not that great. So if going in summer either pony up for the $300 non-resident parking pass or get the owner to get a seasonal guest permit (it’s only $40 but it requires the renter has to go to Town Hall in person to get the permit). Would still go back and recommend in a heartbeat!

I'm thrilled you had a great visit and have some information to correct and to clarify about the beach pass process. The information I sent before arrival explained that, as a renter, in order to have access to the beaches outside of the town beaches (that link I sent as well as a list of my favorites) , renters need to pop into the Southold town hall M-F with a signed contract making sure the renters name is the same as the name on your car registration. It's super simple and takes about 3 minutes as long as you have both in hand. They did up the cost from $40 to $100 per vehicle. Hopefully next time you can enjoy the beaches beyond the town beaches...there are so many lovely ones! Thanks for the lovely review and for treating the house so well! Marcia

Nicely updated home built in 1820
We've stayed in a dozen rentals in Greenport over the years (family of 4 + small dog) and this was our favorite that is still available for rent. The renovations were done with care to make this a modern house but not destroy the sense of being in an early 19th century home. Ample electrics (eg double three prong sockets plus USB charging ports next to every night table), terrific central air/heat with Nest thermometers, large screen TVs available but not dominating the rooms they were in, new floors through out, all made staying here very comfortable. The kitchen features a commercial 6 burner stove and enough plates and glassware to serve at least 20 (in our case, we just had dinners for 4 + pup, no visitors). Nicely decorated and well curated, the house is NOT a storage space for a collection of vintage junk, unlike a few homes we have been in where we suspected the owners were hoarders who had bought the house to use as a storage space. The grounds are VERY well landscaped and excellently fenced. Our three year old Cavapoo loved roaming around and exploring but we could always see where she was, and did not need to worry about her escaping to a neighbors yard or the street. In the back of the large yard, there is an Instagram-ready (if thats your thing) bamboo grove with seating, lighting, and a waterfall that would be perfect for morning yoga or an evening cocktail party (though we did neither LOL). Finally, the location can't be beat, its a 5 minute walk to town and 15 minutes to the nearest beach.

We LOVED it!
The house is charming, full of character and beautiful. It feels like you are staying at a family friends place because it is stocked with everything you might need and is also decorated with specially curated objects everywhere you look. Beautiful vintage handmade quilts, an impressive collection of books, pillows and throws galore, lanterns and a working fireplace, a huge dining table, a secret staircase, old doorknobs, incredible outdoor spaces, a nest heating and cooling system, and wide plank wood floors. The location couldn’t be better, making walking to the main drag a beeeze. The 3rd bedroom is quite small, but I found it cozy and comfortable. All bedding, sheets and pillows were nice. I really loved this house and if it actually belonged to a family friend I’d be out there all the time, haha. Thanks Marcia!!

Great centrally located location for Greenport
Stayed for a three day biking weekend. The house was tremendous. It is centrally located to all that Greenport has to offer. Conveniently located to the wineries, Shelter Island and Orient Point - It proved to the perfect place for a biking weekend. With easy access to downtown Greenport we left the car in the driveway for the entire weekend. Greenport was charming, with so many restaurants to choose from. The Captain's house was as advertised and Marcia was extremely helpful and responsive.

Fabulous Venue
What a marvelous experience. Marcia is great to work with she responds almost immediately to all requests and is very accommodating. The house is amazing. It is completely furnished with anything you could possibly need. It is an old world home with updated furnishing that are really elegant. It is wonderfully located just a short walk to the heart of downtown Greenport with a great many restaurants and shopping venues right there. Once parked in the driveway there is really no reason to use your car for the rest of the stay. The yard is perfectly manicured and serene. My wife and I could not have been more pleased.

Beautiful house in perfect location
This is an amazing house in a great location. Walking distance to main streets of Greenport and quick drive to beaches. We had a lovely time and the house is stunning. The garden is amazing. We didn't have great weather the whole time or we would have spent more time out in the garden. My kids say they want to live in the house they liked it so much! Thanks Marcia (and also Rosita).

Perfect Spot for Our Girlfriend Get Together
First and foremost Marcia was a delight to work with. She is so responsive which goes a long way to assuring you that the rental will be as advertised. Therefore, not surprisingly Marcia’s house was spotless, well equipped, and homey. The linens and towels were all top notch, the mattresses comfy, the kitchen had every imaginable gadget, appliance, and plenty of dishes and silverware. And the yard....It seems to extend forever, is beautifully landscaped, and has several secluded sitting spots in addition to the back porch. While we weren’t able to enjoy it as much as we wished, I can only imagine how nice it would be in the summertime. We loved the house’s location as it was easy to walk and explore Greenport and also easy to get on the road to go to vineyards and other sites we wanted to experience. Marcia has amassed beautiful art and decorative pieces, as well as lovely antique pieces that fit with the house’s history. But despite the house’s age, it has been renovated and the bathrooms in particular are very updated and modern. Our only issue was that one of the fragrant scented diffusers in the home set off one of our group’s allergies. We solved this by moving it to a closet during our stay. I highly recommend this home as a rental in Greenport.

Amazing!

Great vacation house!

THe Captains House was wonderful!

Fabulous and serene! Perfect North Fork getaway house!
My partner and I loved this house! This Whaling Captain's Home is quintessential Greenport, oozing with history and charm and mostly comfort. It's a short stroll into town, for the restaurants and bars and marina, but we spent a lot of time just hanging in the house itself and in the quiet backyard. The house is chock full of intriguing art and books and curiosities, but it's also very comfortable, and fully modernized. You walk in and you feel at home. The kitchen alone is soooooooooooooooo quaint and charming, you just want to grab some pots and pans and start cooking, and there is a full dining room where you can serve your friends. I would highly recommend this house for couples who just want some time away (like us), and want the house experience, but there is also plenty of room for friends and family. The owner, Marcia, was responsive and helpful, as well.

Luxe Cottage Living in Greenport
If you're looking for a comfortable, well-appointed home with plenty of period details and a lush, gorgeous garden well then STOP RIGHT HERE. This summer marked our second stay at this adorable home that my 4 year old son affectionally refers to as the "facation house" (translation: vacation house). Standouts include: comfortable beds, great AC (for those steamy summer nights) and, my personal favorite, an outdoor shower! The home is in Greenport village, the most happening town on the North Fork. And downtown Greenport is just a few short blocks away. In addition to great restaurants and adorable shops, the downtown also features a beautiful vintage carousel and classic "village square" type-area, down by the docks. The Metro North station and ferry to Shelter Island are also located in downtown Greenport (and easily walkable to the house) . As a family with young kids we spent our days bouncing between the beaches, the kid-friendly vineyards and farms (berry picking, visiting the animals, etc). I would especially recommend this house to anyone who loves old homes, but appreciates modern amenities. The owner, Marcia, makes herself very available for any questions (even the small stuff), which was much appreciated! We will be back!

Fabulous July 4th Weekend in Greenport!
My family of 4 had a wonderful time in Greenport at Marcia's home over July 4th weekend. The house is beautifully furnished, so comfortable with lots of room and located within proximity to everything you need. The kitchen is amazing (my daughter and I love to cook) with everything you need to organize a meal. Backyard garden is huge and peaceful with lots of places to relax either in the sun or shade with complete privacy from the neighbors. A beautiful beach is within walking distance, the town is right down the street with lots of great restaurants and shopping and vineyards are also close by. Marcia is a gracious hostess and was quick to respond to all inquiries. If we decide to vacation on the North Fork (NoFo) again, will definitely stay here!

Beautiful House and great location!
Friends and I staying in the home for a birthday celebration. The house is extremely charming and inviting, and the backyard is wonderful. Additionally, the location is perfect as it is a quick walk to Greenport and to the Shelter Island Ferry. Highly recommended!
