Great People & Beautiful Place
John's place is one of the best properties I have ever experienced. It has great location, only few miles away from paia town with multiple choices for local food & drink. It's close to Hana highway, so if you're planning to take "Road to Hana", his place would save you plenty of time for a presumably exhausting whole day driving. The property is clean, organized and well designed. It has an ocean view from both living room, master bedroom and balcony. Most importantly, the owner (John) is a great person. He's so friendly and responsive. We arrived at the property at late night due to unexpected long line at car rental. John waited for us at the property in person to ensure a smooth check-in. He also invited us for a tour through his entire plantation which includes multiple fantastic properties suitable for varied group size. I absolutely look forward to coming back when traveling to Maui next time.

Wonderful stay in peaceful neighborhood.
We loved our stay in this quiet and peaceful area of Maui. John was a wonderful host and our kids loved seeing bananas growing. John even let our son harvest a bunch that we enjoyed with breakfast the next morning. We slept with our windows open each night and the house was always comfortable. Our family (3 kids and two adults) spent three nights here and loved it!

Great Location On North Shore
We love the North Shore of Maui and John’s property is ideal in every way! The home is very charming and comfortable with great views of the ocean and surrounding area. Perfect place for families
This place is really great and well appointed and on a beautiful spot in the island. We found John to be really friendly, generous and helpful and we loved the tranquil space and great living area for the kids. We felt the place was really private but he was always available if we needed anything or had a question. Hoping to return again soon!

BEWARE, PERSONAL SAFETY AT STAKE!
We booked this listing as well as the vehicle he made available with the listing. The first night my son was sleeping in the living room and someone entered the property and walked by where he was sleeping on a mattress on the floor. He thought it was one of us or that he was dreaming. So we brushed it off. Then several of the nights that we came home to the property after being gone all day, all the lights were on in the house and the sliding back doors we open. We specifically closed all doors before leaving for the day, and we turned lights off. The night prior to our leaving the host started making threats about our having family visiting us at the house and staying with us and that he would charge us for 2 additional people for 7 nights. We were starting to worry about our safety. We felt like there were cameras in the home and we were being watched or that he had in fact been entering the house while we were sleeping and while we left the house during the day. We barricaded doors to prevent opening from the outside while we slept, since we were leaving in the morning. During our stay, a new tshirt we had bought also went missing. We looked everywhere for it. When we contacted the host about returning his vehicle per our arrangement at the airport, he wanted to meet us at the house to show us where to put the key. When I told him that wouldn't work for us he started threatening me. He then stopped by the house where and began threatening the other paying guests there. Said if we left a bad review, he would hunt us down and make our life ‘hell’. We asked him about how he knew other guests were here as well as the trespassing while we were sleeping and gone during the day. He aboided the topic and began to threaten about if we didn’t pay him additional money he would get us fired from our jobs back home and banned from VRBO for life. He also stated that he has done this before to a guest who was a lawyer that didn’t pay extra fees. He said he got him fired from his job and banned from vrbo for life for making a bad review. He was making up stories about me to our other guests and trying to get them to pay the extra money as well. That lasted for an hour. After he finally left the property, he then texted me saying he talked with them and was turning us into VRBO. He then called the other guest after they left for the next hour harassing them and making threats. We have also filed a police report.

RES IPSA LOQUITUR—“the thing speaks for itself” This individual booked a 7 night stay for 6 people but arrived with 8, and without any prior notice to the host. The registered guest and her two freeloading friends all declined to pay the nominal additional guest fee of $25 per person for each night of their accommodations; instead, they fled to the airport on check-out day with the host’s new rental car leaving an unkempt house and a dented vehicle. None of those in the party ever made a complaint to the host or the police (no report filed) regarding any the alleged issues, including the allegations of a stranger inside the house. Our plethora of stellar guest reviews speak the truth while this individual’s shameful review was crafted with aspersions aimed at a devoted staff who consistently go out of their way to provide each guest a memorable and fantastic stay. In over 30 years of operation, Maui Adventure Villa has hosted thousands of guests from over 70 countries and many of them have returned to stay with us again and again. There has never been any safety concern on our property - no unauthorized entries, no thefts, no hidden cameras, etc. The host happens to be a former federal law-enforcement, anti-terrorism and security specialist who resides on the 2 acre B&B farm property… he has always demonstrated the utmost respect for his guests and their safety.

Family Maui Vacation 2023
We rented this property for my daughter, her husband and three kids (two teens and an infant). John was excellent to deal with in all aspects. The property is beautiful & the home is spacious & VERY WELL appointed. If you'd like to be in a quiet neighborhood - yet a short drive to beaches and stores, this rental in Haiku is for you.

Great Spot on Maui
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! John was very accommodating and welcoming. He brought in an extra mattress (so my son didn't have to share a bed with his sister); he also brought us coffee, oatmeal, bananas, etc when our arrival was too late to pick up breakfast supplies. No extra charge for either of these kind gestures. The house itself was clean and well appointed; we had everything we needed. Location was great. Maui is not huge, and getting around was quite easy. We visited most regions of the island during our stay. If I had 1 recommendation - a couple of travel mugs (even just cheap plastic ones) would have been an excellent addition to the kitchen supplies. With so many places to explore, we often got an early start, and a coffee-to-go would have made the great stay even better. Thank you again, John for being so welcoming and ensuring that our stay was wonderful.

This 3-bedroom, one-great room with two full baths perfectly accommodated our party of three college roommates, who graduated many decades ago, along with visiting relatives from Maui. Maui Gem!
We booked this property based on other reviews and the cost. When we showed up we actually felt the pictures undersold the listing as the property and view is gorgeous. Our group came to ride bikes on the island so being close to the beach was not top of our list. Being in a quiet area with space to spread out and access to the best cycling were our priorities and this place was perfect. Per the other reviews not having A/C was not an issue as the location on the hill does provide a great breeze. Actually found ourselves wearing jackets in the morning. John is wonderful and will bend over backwards to make your stay special. He provided us with a mid stay cleaning (covered by him) and introduced us to some local chefs who prepared a meal at the house for us. Super special. This property is charming, it’s not generic resort style, has the local flare (it’s not perfect and has the natural elements of being in nature in Hawaii like some bugs, animals in the neighborhood). We loved it and felt right at home. The value of this property is such a find in Maui!

Great getaway from the hustle & bustle!
John was an amazing host - he provided detailed information about the property beforehand and was friendly and available for anything we needed during our stay. The location is away from the resort zone and that’s what we wanted! It is still a very short drive to any location you may want to access on the west or south coasts, but our primary goals were being near Haleakala NP and well on the way to Hana so it worked out perfectly for us. The town of Paia is cute for shopping and the surrounding communities give you a real sense of Maui culture. The water was great - we used the provided filters but out of the tap it tasted fine to me. Ho’okipa beach nearby is a must-visit in the afternoon if you want to see turtles. Definitely would stay here again.

Calm, quiet, great views and a kind host. What more could you ask for?
We comfortably fit a family of 5 in this lovely home right near the start of the road to Hana. The house had all the things we needed to be comfortable (including some beach items that proved useful), and John was very kind. He met us when we arrived to show us around the house, and checked in a couple of other times during the stay to ensure we had everything we needed. If you are looking for a place away from the tourist areas this house is a great choice.

Serene retreat
Our family of five began our Maui vacation here. The home was super clean, comfortable, and the property was green everywhere you looked. The lanai outside the master bedroom was a favorite spot to wind down after a day of exploring and a magical place in the early morning. You can see the ocean in the distance and it was a breezy, relaxing area. John, the owner was very attentive and answered every question within the hour. He also had beach chairs, beach towels, and boogie boards to borrow. One thing to note is that the house is adjacent to another rental unit, accessible from the back lanai. It wasn't a problem for us but if you're looking for total seclusion, you may see and hear other guests at times. This is a great place to stay if you want to visit Hana but not stay in Hana. Easy to find groceries nearby and close to Paia, Haiku, and a cute town called Hakawao. We had a lovely time.

The house is on a farm with distant views of the water. The house is large and the host is welcoming and helpful. Everything is very clean and the beds and pillows were yummy. Beautiful sunsets. The neighborhood was nice and quiet and we appreciated the restaurant/store down the road to grab small bites. Great location for hopping on the Hana Highway to explore. The house had everything we needed, John was very accommodating, and the kids appreciated the wifi and yard to explore. It was pretty warm our couple days there, and the rooms do not have AC but opening the windows and turnning on the fans worked for us.

Our family of 6 stayed at Maui Adventure Villa for a total of 7 nights and it was beyond amazing. From the very beginning John was an excellent communicator and was always so accommodating. The pictures of the house don’t do it justice. John has created a piece of paradise on his 2 acre property. This villa came stocked with everything for a big family; lots of seating, big dining table, a high chair, an enclosed bed for our toddler(I was so thankful for this)beach towels, surf boards, boogie boards, snorkeling gear, beds big enough so my two teenagers could share and fans in every room.The kitchen was also stocked-a ninja blender for our smoothies, coffee maker, fresh fruit from the garden, quality pots, pans and utensils when we made breakfast in the mornings. The view from the deck was was stunning during sunrise and sunset overlooking the ocean in the horizon. The neighborhood is so lovely to walk around in. I highly recommend staying at Maui Adventure villa 100% especially if you want to get away from the touristy areas like Lahaina. It’s well worth your money to stay here! Mahalo John for your Hawaiian hospitality we will definitely be coming back!

Lovely Stay
A great place to day that was a perfect home base for touring the North shore. Really enjoyed seeing all the fruit trees and standing on the back porch and listening to the silence of the night. Beds were great, kitchen was nice and big. Dining table was good size for our family. There is another unit that is right next to this one... the buildings are 5ft apart-ish. That was the only real unexpected aspect. Thank you for sharing your place.

A Perfect Sanctuary On Maui, Plenty of Space
A cozy and remodeled house with geckos galore. While there's an adjoining cottage, you have all the privacy you need with a wonderful view of the sea. John was friendly, responsive, attentive to all our needs and quick to respond to questions or concerns, and prompt to fix a small leak from the patio door after heavy rain storms. Family friendly getaway
John’s place is a great retreat for a couple of families. You get quiet nights and mornings to enjoy the rain or shine, and walks around the neighborhood. Our children picked oranges and bananas to eat from the trees on the property. The location within a short walk to Jaws Country Store for the the best breakfast burritos and coffee. John was very accommodating and always helpful with any of our needs! Highly recommend!

A Maui gem
I can’t begin to tell you how much we loved this adorable home and property. From the moment we arrived, I felt like we were truly experiencing Maui. We were welcomed by John with fresh flowers, fresh fruit and fantastic recommendations. John checked in on us on arrival and throughout our stay ensuring we were comfortable and had everything we needed. He loaned us snorkeling gear and directed us to the best local spots. The home was perfect (and immaculately clean) for our family of 5 with 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. The kitchen was stocked for cooking meals and we drank our coffee every morning on the back deck while a rain storm would pass through. We spent the second half of our vacation on the west side of the island at a resort and it didn’t come close to comparing. All 3 of my kids asked to “go back to johns”. Thank you for sharing this gem with us!

A DREAM
First and foremost, pictures do not do this place justice! I have never written a review for a property in my life and felt the need to do so for this gem of a place. The guest house is surrounded by lush green trees, tropical flowers, and is conveniently located 10 mins away from Paia, Haiku, and Twin Falls. The house itself was clean, spacious, and felt incredibly peaceful. My nieces and nephews enjoyed eating the apple bananas John brought us the day we arrived, and my family loved exploring the property, eating breakfast on the porch, and the incredible hospitality John provided. We felt at home. As a runner, I ran in the neighborhood in the morning; completed the road to Hana in a day with my family (thanks to the convenient location); enjoyed the beaches in Paia and delicious meals at nearby restaurants (Nuka was a personal favorite). John was responsive and attentive from the day I booked this property. I can't thank him enough for the joy he and his place brought my family. If you are looking for a nonpretentious, peaceful oasis - this is it! We can't wait to be back. Mahalo, John! Tips: buy groceries before checking into the property. Mana Foods is 10 mins away and offers organic produce (and delicious acai bowls) for great prices! Otherwise, Foodland/Costco/Whole Foods can be food near the airport.

My family and I just got home after staying 5 days here. It's nice and private. Amazing view of the mountains and the ocean. It's private and secluded. The pictures don't do it justice. John was great as a host asking if we needed anything. He made great recommendation. The neighbors were friendly. 10/10 would recommend this place and John as a host!!!

Exceeded expectations!
The guest house exceeded all of our expectations. The property was tucked away in the hills and felt very private and exclusive. The unit had everything we needed, and if we needed anything additional John was able to supply and happy to help us out. We can't say enough good things about John and his amazing North Shore Guest House @ Maui Adventure Villa! We didn't want to leave. We hope to come back for our five year anniversary!

Great place in north Maui
Loved our stay in this peaceful cottage. Great location, super close to Road to Hana and just a few minutes to Paia or up to Paluwea and Makawao. Well-equipped kitchen, comfy sofa and bed. This two-bedroom cottage is in the process of becoming a three-bedroom one, so there is some ongoing construction, but it did not impact our stay at all. Work was done while we were out exploring Maui and all was quiet by the time we got back each evening. The host is very conscientious about this, so don’t be too inclined to believe reviews that complain about the construction. We had a great stay here and would return.

A Magical Wedding Venue
John's pole house and banana farm was a beautiful venue to host our daughter's & son-in-law's wedding. John and his staff were extremely welcoming, receptive, and helpful to our entire wedding party. We rented the additional property which allowed us to stay on-site and prepare for the wedding. John and his staff also allowed us to set up an outdoor wedding tent and even helped with the setup, provided beautiful, fresh farm flowers, banana leaves, and bananas for the wedding. They put out tiki touches and helped create an authentic hawaiian setting for the wedding. The ocean view looking out over the banana grove at sunset was stunning. We truly we're blessed by John and his staff's hospitality and having full use of the property and multiple homes on-site made planning and hosting the wedding easy. We're truly grateful for the openness and help John and his staff gave us. We highly recommend considering the farm for hosting a wedding. Thanks John for welcoming our family and helping to make our daughters wedding so memorable and magical!

I am supposed to get my money back, we did not stay at the property. We left and booked another property. The property was not ready for anyone to stay there. At least not us. No stove no a/c one bed room with stuff just laying around not finished. Died flowers they I guess were for welcoming us. Just not at all what we are used to.

The owner John was very helpful with check-in and even offered to give us a lift into town. There was fresh fruit waiting for us in the morning, straight from his garden. Overall we had an awesome experience staying on the property. It was a nice rest & change of pace from the hustle of some of the more standard resorts on Maui.

"We've got to get back to the garden"
Wonderful to be among the friendly folk of Maui's north slope. Perfect for the eat, sleep surf, crowd. I was a bit unnerved when I first saw the property since the VRBO photo suggested a something more high end - lots of wood finishes , picture window - which it did have but the feeling was of a structure somewhat unfinished, though every appliance you could think of commanded the roughed-in counter. The exterior, however, presents only as an unfinished and unoccupiable structure and a rough storage room. Nevertheless it turned out to have heart of gold (even though the couch is for looks only - no cushioning, just pillows) and John is a peach, you will feel grateful to have been part of the the plan there. Main criticism: my only view was obstructed by the unsightly construction; pick a different room.
