The living area was quite recently decorated with all new furniture. Our house cleaner is meticulous to ensure that everything in the tropical environment 100 steps from Hanalei Bay is spotless upon your arrival. We, too, prepare many of our meals in the kitchen so we are pleased to know you didn’t lack for food preparation and the well-stocked pantry equipment met your needs. You are correct that Hanalei Beach is a special place; Trip Advisor in February 2023 rated Hanalei Beach as the 4th best beach in all of the United States. You are also correct that we do not have central air-conditioning for the house because if we did, our utility and maintenance costs would be much higher and we would have to raise the rental rate of the house. We choose to provide the house with ceiling and floor fans to circulate the tropical air and pass the savings on to our guests so they will have more funds to spend on the unique and special small restaurants, food trucks, and the new all-natural food Hanalei Market. The fresh fish and sushi from The Dolphin is wonderful to bring home and eat outside on the lanai (deck in Hawaiian). You’ll find beach chairs and a beach umbrella so that you can enjoy the Hanalei Bay beach that is only a few quick steps away. All of our guests receive a gift bag containing gift certificates to some of the local Hanalei shops that provide Kauai-distinctive or exclusive offerings such as Hanalei-grown chocolate, scrumptious ice cream, one-of-a-kind grilled cheese sandwiches with pineapple and or pork, a catered dinner delivered to the house after you have had a busy day, etc. We provide these so your experience is special when you are staying in our Hanalei house. Mahalo for writing a review of our house. You are correct, the house is 50 steps from the beach and some nights the sound of the waves makes you think the surf is in the driveway. I apologize for the ocean view being blocked by the neighbor’s Panex hedge but I talked to him yesterday and he will be removing the 7’ of new growth in 2 weeks and the ocean view from the lanai will be restored. From the lanai, you can see the surf through the trees, Hanalei town is back to normal since the road repair on the Hill is complete and both lanes of traffic are flowing 24 hours a day. We have had several discussions with him about lowering his plants but he has not done anything about it. I keep the hedge on my property line tall so as to maintain the privacy of our guests relative to the upstairs room of the house next door. Your comment is the first we that have heard about the mattress in the master bedroom. Although the mattress is only 6 years old, I have ordered a new mattress for the Master Bedroom. The comfort of our guests is very important to us..

Thank you for staying in our house. We are glad that you found the things in the house useful to make your stay feel like you were at home. We add new items every year based on our, and our guests, experiences. You are correct in that the house can get warm in the afternoon on the few days of the year that the trade winds don’t blow. Trade winds are the tropical air-conditioning and a quiet wind day can be warm. That is typical of houses on the North Shore. We just walk to the beach and wait a few hours for air to cool down.
