This hotel is BEAUTIFUL! The staff is super friendly and willing to help, the rooms (Japanese style) are amazing and really large. You have a view of the ocean and the Tori in Miyajima. The breakfast buffet is delicious and the private onsen was a great experience after our hike to Mount Misen. There is a very convenient shuttle to the Ferry Station. I can't recommend this hotel enough, we really liked it!

Pleasant but would have booked something else.
The hotel was nice, however it was a little disappointing that I feel like the photos didn’t exactly tell the entire story of the building. And the actual website of the hotel was much more detailed in realistic than the hotels.com breakdown. It would have been nice to know in advance that the pool wasn’t actually open, none of the restaurants inside the hotel were open, and the onsen wasn’t tattoo friendly. Because the hotels.com details we booked the hotel based on the amenities we saw and the information provided. Which didn’t actually end up being true to when we got there. But the staff was great, the hotel is a beautiful Japanese style with modern comforts, and it’s in a great location to train station and local/city sites. Would recommend anyone to stay here however to check the hotels own website for further details not just the hotels.com listings.

Perfect view of Itsukushima shrine across the sea
Perfect location to enjoy the Itsukushima shrine over the sea water. Expensive but excellent food at their Japanese restaurant. Try the oyster oyster rice bowl so that you would know famous Hiroshima oyster. Their free shuttle bus to Miyajima-guchi station is very handy. I appreciated customer service at the reception and restaurant people. Also I enjoyed relaxing nostalgic tatami room.

Very nice ryokan
Everything is great about this hotel. It looks even better than on the photos. The shuttle bus was also very convenient. However, I wish there were more different bathes in the onsen. Also, it was not clear to me how to book a night with a western breakfast, not a Japanese one. Please note, that the souvenirs in this hotel are very nice and reasonably priced.

It sucked. We did not know you had to make reservations to eat in the restaurants in the hotel so they were always booked up and we had to walk about a mile down the road at night to find a place to eat at. No coffee in the room and no AC in the room like they advertised. There was no garden either. I hated it. It was in the middle of no where. We paid almost $100 dollars in a taxi from the train station cause we did not know it was so far away. My life was a living hell during those 3 days.

A pleasant quiet, cultural stay for family
A quiet environment with beautiful settings. The staff were warm, polite and obliging. The room for our family of 6 was great; our children were thrilled with the tatami and futons, even tried drinking tea with the tea set provided. And the partial division for the two beds gave them a sense of being on their own. The shuttle bus was a convenient transportation to the train/streetcar/ferry terminal but the last one is around 6.30pm or so. However it's only a short walk from the terminal to the hotel, about 12 minutes. Walk is not advisable for small children as it's along the main road. Hotel is not on the Miyajima Island. Despite facing the Itsukushima shrine, it's too far for any views of it. You have ocean views. The private Onsen was clean and beautiful. It provided our girls a beautiful experience to a part of Japanese culture.

Totally inflexible staff at check-in, had to sleep in car until room made available, even though rooms were ready. Wifi does not work in guest rooms, after complaining to Front Desk staff, had to get a manager who provided mobile hots[pot to use in room. Great view of shrine, but hotel is way overdue for a facelift, so poor value for money. Need to learn from the Toyota motto " Customer First ". Bathrooms had mold in joint seams.

Beautiful hotel with plenty of parking
The hotel is very pretty. The lobby area is beautiful. The view of the ocean and the islands nearby is also beautiful. The room was a typical Japanese hotel room. A bit small by American standards. There are no dressers to put your clothes in. The toilet is very small. The two beds in the room take up 90% of the room and there is very little room to move around. The shower is one in which you turn on the water in the sink and switch a lever for the shower. Very little water pressure. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast buffet was Japanese style. There were scrambled eggs and ham for Americans. The room I stayed in was good enough for a short time. But if you want luxury then you would need to get a more costly room. I got the Standard Twin Room. Definitely worth the price I paid. The staff was very friendly. There was always a receptionist that spoke some English.

Had big hopes for this hotel but a let down
Having had a long drive I used this hotel as a half way point but on arrival was told I couldn't park my car in the hotel car park so had to park it on the road. Then during check in got told there was two restaurants to eat in and got showen my room. Whilst everything was fine in the room and the bathroom was really dated I did sleep well. About 19.30 I went down stairs to get some food to be told that only one restaurant was open tonight and it was a Japanese set menu costing about £45.00 all I wanted was a main meal so I ended up driving into the local town to eat. Went I got back to the hotel was then told that the bar was closing at 22.00 so I didn't had a drink and went to bed. This is a large hotel and cater mainly for bus tours and weddings not one room booking. Very disappointed.

Wonderful!
It was a very nice hotel near Itsukushima shrine. The hotel shuttle bus saved us from walking (about 15 min. ) from the train station/ ferry station. All the staff were very friendly and polite. We enjoyed the onsen, too. the buffet type breakfast offered a variety of both American and Japanese food. I would highly recommend this hotel!!

Lovely hotel. Great good, great views, would recommend taking lots of mosquito repellent and germoline though! if you don't book dinner through the hotel they have a wonderful bar called Nagi - great staff and delicious food!

This hotel has its own hot spring, so you do not need to walk to an off site location for a hot bath and sauna. The outdoor pool was closed during our stay, so that was a little disappointing. The shuttle that takes guests to the train stops was much appreciated.

Disappointed; do not stay during the summer
From appearance, this hotel looks like it'll be great. The exterior and lobby area look quite grand, and the amenities sound great. Unfortunately, not only did the room not meet expectations, but they were a disappointment. The air conditioning in the hotel, including in the rooms, are very weak. Do NOT stay here during the summer heat, as the AC is not strong enough to give you a comfortable stay. My partner and I were so hot in the room, and this was especially disappointing given the price of the hotel. The ocean view from the room was great, but bugs and heat came streaming in every time we opened the balcony door, so we would just admire the view from the inside of our hot room. They give you a portable wifi for your room, but it's so slow that it's almost as if you don't have wifi at all. I will say, however, that the staff are very friendly and try to accommodate however they can, even though they couldn't do much for our requests about the AC. In addition, I did not make it back to the hotel in time to use the amenities (e.g., hot springs), but they looked nice and might have made the stay more worthwhile. Also, note that the hotel's shuttle buses don't run past 7pm, and even though Google Maps says that the hotel is a 10-min walk from the train station, the path really isn't very walkable because the hotel is located kind of in the middle of nowhere, so you'll have to take a cab over.

As with all Japanese hotels the service in the Grand Aki was very good but the hotel felt a little dated compared with some. The location was fantastic for visits to Miyajima but a hotel in Hiroshima would have been more convenient for other local attractions. Wifi was very poor, none in the room and sketchy at best even in the reception so had to use the free wifi in the Peace Museum in Hiroshima.

It was so nice!
It is a little bit old building but they have many restaurants, nice big bath, a pool and great ocean view. The staff are so nice! I recommend this. About 1 km and 10 minutes walk from Miyajimaguchi.

Excellent hotel with large (for Japan) rooms and nice facilities. Ofuro area is beautiful. Buffet breakfast was very good and worth the money. The shuttle service from the station made transportation very convenient. Highly recommend this hotel.

Excellent surprise
Extremely satisfied. We looked for a hotel close to the Miyajima shrine but could not find anything on the island itself. Thus, we were just happy to find this hotel in reasonably close distance. Without much expectations, the hotel was an extremely nice surprise. We got a room high up in the building with a nice balcony and a great view directly onto the bay, with the Miyajima shrine straight ahead. Wonderful view. The room was spacious and very clean. We were also surprised to have a great public bath in the hotel---not an onset, but a great bath. The hotel has an excellent bus service to the railway station, which is only a 3 min drive, and is also right at the ferry that brings you onto the island with the shrine in about 10 min. At night, the hotel also offers for Yen1500 a 30 min boat ride out to the shrine, which we found very worthwhile and enjoyed it. Upon arrival at the railway station, we did not contact the hotel or wait for the bus but walked to the hotel; that is a very manageable 15 min walk, but the last 5 min are along a rather busy street. That---and the lack of a substantial neighborhood around the hotel---are the only downside that could be raised. All in all, an outstanding cost/performance ratio, though.

The hotel is huge and somewhat impersonal but the rooms are very large, the beds comfortable and the views fantastic. We would have been happier if there was internet connection and/or Wi-Fi in the room. Also, there was an issue with our breakfast; despite buying a deal which included breakfast we were told by reception that this wasn't the case. After a wait which was quite unpleasant we were told that: no, breakfast was not included, but they'll kindly let us have it anyway. This is not how things should be done and it was embarrassing. However, breakfast was great, so perhaps worth the unpleasantness. Overall we enjoyed our stay and given the chance, would stay there again.
