Good Thamel option that is mostly quiet
Hot showers with good pressure and nice breakfast. Very helpful staff at all times.

Staff very helpful and pleasant, decent breakfast, room could have been cleaner, furnishings old and worn, worst thing (which is of course not under the hotel’s control) was the endless very loud street noise, even right through the night. This made it impossible for me to sleep so after two nights I was so exhausted I moved to another hotel even though I had paid in advance for a week. I know this is in no way the fault of the hotel but I have to be able to sleep!

Towels were disgusting and felt like rags. Room condition could be improved. Common area was dusty and should be cleaned. I don't think we will return here.

Greeted by a very rude obnoxious boss, after “arranging” airport drop off via email prior to arrival was then told that it’s not possible at all to get a lift to the airport. Not sure why you would reply yes in email then say no in person, especially when the customer is happy to pay. Final billing amount was different to what was quoted, didn’t realise the price quoted and held against credit card only applied for cash payments and that to pay on card it would cost more. Room was loud and housekeeping phone in hallway went off several times before 8am. Wouldn’t stay again.

The crepes at breakfast were good, otherwise everything else was really disappointing, especially given the price. The rooms were old and smelly, the beds were uncomfortable, it was really noisy at night and the whole vibe of the place was off. Maybe my expectations were too high, but after reading the reviews we were hoping for more.

There’s no elevator, but the staff is very helpful and helped me carried my suitcase to the fifth floor, so I’m quite pleased with my stay.

Love the breakfast. Staff is polite abc helpful. We stayed on the 1st floor near the stairs so it gets noisy when guests walk up the stairs.

The staff is wonderful, very helpful and great service. Our room was on 4th floor with no elevator, but they did carry our luggage up for us because again they give awesome service there. Also this time we had a mini fridge in our room but didnt before.

I really liked the service from all the friendly and wonderful people working there. I didnt like that i had to pay for ky coke drinks at breakfast when everyone else got free drinks. I also didnt like that they didnt have an elevator and we had to walk up three flights of stairs.

Centre of Thamel, great staff
Although the hotel is need of some redecoration, the staff were incredibly good, they were attentive, helpful and exceedingly welcoming. I will certainly stay there again. As I said the hotel could with some upgrading, but DO NOT change the staff.

We were treated by friendly staff, a hot drink and warm face towel. Escorted to our lovely room and made totally comfortable. Tasty made to order omlettes for breakfast, travel guides, baggage storage, and right in the heart of Thamel sights and shopping. So glad our friend recommended it.

Fantastic for the price but check closely
The first thing to remember is the price, which is extremely modest compared to the typical hotels I stay when traveling for work. In that context, this place is super great. The location is perfect for tourists and trekkers, the room was spacious, the service impeccable and even the breakfast was surprisingly good considering the cost. However, the place does not live up to its name so if your expectations are set right, this place is highly recommended. If you expect a "typical" business hotel then you will find the place old and a bit dodgy.

Location and good value
Good location in Thamel, close enough to walk to Durber Square and the Garden of Dreams, with lots of restaurants and knock-off shopping. The rooms are definitely better than the two other places I’ve stayed at in Thamel. Good value. Rooftop has no nice view, but it is a quiet escape from the hubbub of Kathmandu.

Hotel Kathmandu Grand is on a very good location for those who come here to enjoy the Nepal's culture, window shopping, café and street food, it is far away from visiting spots, otherwise hotel staff not at all helpful,#104 shower not working properly, food is okayish, property manager is not keen to come and listen the customer.

Staff and Management go out of their way to make sure that they meet your needs and beyond. After 6 days, the hotel felt like it was home. I cannot find anything I can fault them with, except that their food is edible but not the best in town. The hotel is out of the busy streets and yet access to the whole of Thamel is so easy.

The best spot we stayed during our entire Nepal trip. Customer service were on point even after our check out. Room amenities and conditions were fantastic. Highly recommended to all. breakfast spread and internet connectivity has rooms for improvements.

A Good Choice
This hotel is located at the northern edge of the Thamel with easy access to the main road 100 meters north. Most of the taxi and tour operators can find this hotel. This part of the Thamel is quiet compared to further south. This hotel has several levels and a wonderful sitting area on the top deck. The morning breakfast is very good with a nice selection of eggs, bacon and drinks. The staff is always helpful. Bring a couple of towels with you. Take time to have the tea and coffee every afternoon in the lobby. If you face the street side of the hotel you will get some yelling and noise during the night. Ask for a room at the back of the property.

Arrival went well, picked up from airport as promised which was awesome. We were lucky to have our room upgraded free of charge. Room was clean with free wifi and hot water. Staff were overly helpful ensuring our time in Nepal was well spent and we were looked after. Good location for shopping and access to ATM's. Planned excursions delivered as promised and affordable from hotel. Recommend mountain flight as it was our highlight. Overall happy with our choice to stay at The Kathmandu Grand Hotel.

Very much enjoyed staying here. Helpful staff, food breakfast clean rooms. The only down side is there's no lift so if you're on the 4th floor, it will provide good training for tour impending hikes.

Nice quiet place in Thamel.
Room is clean and comfortable. Had heat which certainly helps in winter here. Plenty of hot water. I was on 4th floor. Nice and quiet, no street noise. Staff helpful in arranging things without being pushy. Breakfast buffet with egg station cooked to order. Only complaint is only coffee was instant. Easy to go out and get coffee elsewhere.

The hot water was not working in the showers and the staff kept saying that it would be fixed within 2 hours. 48 hours later still no hot water so we checked our. Rooms were cold, corridors loud, and bathrooms moldy. Would not recommend.

The best place in Thamel
I have made many trips to Kathmandu and this is the best place at a reasonable price I have found. Excellent internet connection which I appreciate. Thoughtful staff. Clean room that even comes two large bottles of mineral water.
