Excellent Lake House
A lovely and comfortable house with spectacular views of the Lake and a deluxe private beach. Our family of five enjoyed a wonderful week here. It's only a few minutes south of Manistee where there are several nice restaurants and interesting shops, and about a half hour north of Ludington where there are even more restaurants and shops. Also, lots of hiking, kayaking, and biking in the area. We would definitely like to come back here again.

Family Beach House Vacation
We had a wonderful stay at this house on Lake Michigan. This house is very clean and offered plenty of room for our family. Beds are very comfortable. We did not use the lower bedroom as we only has 6 people. The views from the house overlooking Lake Michigan were amazing. Highlights for our stay were the beach, fires in the beach fire pit with s'mores and the beautiful sunsets. We had the beach to ourself the way the beach is set up. Manistee is not that far for a dinner out. Our most enjoyable meals were on the porch overlooking Lake Michigan. High quality barbeque grill with utensils for grilling meals. Kitchen, bathrooms and house was stocked with everything we needed. Bring your own beach towels. Steve was very communicative and answered all our questions immediately. We will be back to this gem on the lake.

Beautiful private beach
Beautiful house and private beach, great kitchen setup. The owner obviously takes great pride in the property. Our three-generation group had an amazing time. If there was one negative it would be that there weren’t very many shops in downtown Manistee, and most of the extra activities we were interested in doing were 30-60 minutes away. But all in all a wonderful time was had by all!

Outstanding Michigan Beachfront Home
This home is outstanding. The owners are very welcoming and easy to communicate with. Check in and out was very easy. The view is amazing and the private beach was perfect in every way. The owners provide everything you could need-beach towels, chairs, toys, and even stuff to make s’mores on the beach campfire. It is a quick drive to Manistee for groceries, shopping or to pick up dinner There’s also a grill and anything you need to do cooking at home All in all, everything was perfect and we will definitely be back next year!

Loved the house and the two wooden chairs up above the beach. We had great views if the lake.
We had a great time we had great views of beautiful sunsets. We also visited Luddington and Sleeping Bear Dunes which were a reasonable drive away. The house had great views of Lake Michigan and was well furnished with everything we needed.

Manistee beach house
We had a wonderful stay at Stephen's home and he was a very responsive host. The beach is private and fabulous; a stairway down from the house. The house and kitchen are well stocked with all household needs. We had two children under 6 with us and 6 adults-the home handled our group fabulously with space and comfortable places to hang out when not at the beach. The sunsets are not to be missed and we enjoyed the beach daily. It's a short trip into town for lunch/dinner out which we took advantage of. 5th ave beach and lighthouse is just past town, and the tour of the Milwaukee ship was a favorite outing! Overall, a wonderful stay-we will come back!

Practically Perfect
It was nice to be welcomed by Steve and Sandy and the welcome basket was much appreciated. The house is awesome with lovely decor and very welcoming. We felt right at home. The house has everything you could need and is well stocked. The outdoor grill is great and we used it quite a bit. There are about a dozen steps or so down to the beach that are sturdy and easy to use to get to a great beach area with plenty of beach chairs, toys and a fire pit area where we had some beach fires and watch some awesome awesome sunsets. We had a couple of days with easy beach access to the water and then some days when the wind shifted and the sand disappeared and the underlying rocks were too big for our small children to navigate. On those days we just took the short walk to the association beach and played and swam there. The kiddos also enjoyed the playground there. The Manistee area has many great restaurants, playgrounds and shops. We didn’t go into town much because we were so happy at the place. We have already reserved again for next year. Thank you Steve and Sandy for sharing your awesome home with us. We look forward to coming back again next year.

Beautiful House, Great Beach, and Wonderful Views!
Our family of nine, age ranges of 76-8 years old, had a fantastic time staying at this property! The house is beautiful and the kitchen is well appointed for those who like to cook (which we did all but 2 days). The bluff offers fabulous views of the lake and sunsets, while the kids enjoyed swimming and kayaking off the beach. The house is about a 10-15 minute drive into the quaint downtown with several good restaurants, grocery stores and nice public beaches. Our family has several gluten-free folks and we were able to get good GF pizza from AJ's Pizzeria, GF sandwiches from TJs Pub, and GF ice cream from Dowtown Delights. The hosts are wonderful and I would highly recommend staying at this home. In fact, I imagine our family will be back again! Thanks Steve and Sandy for sharing your home with us!

Beautiful house and location
The house was beautiful, clean, well appointed, and bigger than expected. Being right on the beach was amazing, and we enjoyed many beautiful sunsets. There are several beach chairs and outdoor toys and games available, which we appreciated. Cell phone reception was spotty, so you should make sure you have other means to communicate with people. There are a few items I was surprised by, that I thought I would share for others to be aware of. First, there are a number of steps to get from the parking area to the main floor of the house. This was challenging for my mother. Likewise, the listing mentions a low bluff, but there were no pictures of the stairs required to access the beach, and it was higher than I anticipated. Second, the bedroom with two twin beds is not actually a bedroom. It is a room adjacent to the garage with no door to the interior that can be shut for privacy/noise blockage. This worked out fine in our situation, as we had two teenagers in the room, but I would have been upset if I was expecting to put two smaller children in that room, as there is one exterior door plus the door to the garage in the space, and they are two floors away from adults. Third, the neighbors do not like that this is a rental house and we felt like we were under surveillance any time we were outside. The kids didn't want to go play basketball for fear they would be questioned about their presence. Overall we really enjoyed the house and our stay.

Joey; Thank you for your review of our home. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the house and your stay. So others can be aware, we would like to address your comments regarding your surprises. The house does have a land line, internet etc to address spotty cell service. The lower level of our home is built into a dune so there are stairs leading one floor up to the main level. We are sorry to hear that it was difficult for your mother. Our property does have a low bluff and a beautiful beach. There are a total of 18 stairs to the beach with about a 10 foot bluff. We will update our listing pictures to include the stairs. We are happy to hear that the actual fourth bedroom in the lower level worked well for your children. Yes, we would agree you may not want to put very young children in that bedroom. There are three beautiful bedrooms upstairs for that. Lastly, we check with our neighbors regularly to make sure they are not upset by our renters. One of house rules is “quiet time” is 11 pm. Unfortunately, our one neighbor, when asked, mentioned that fireworks were being set off just before midnight and they had two baby grandchildren sleeping. Just what I needed.
This place is beautiful and I couldn’t ask for much more. Place was very clean, with updated look and feel. Beach was literally steps away. House is on a very quiet, private street. It rained for a couple days but I could sit under the covered porch/deck and still enjoy being outdoors even with the rain.

Fantastic Beach House
My husband and I stayed at this beautiful home, to celebrate our anniversary. The house was beautiful inside and the views of the lake were gorgeous. We enjoyed the beach, swimming in the lake and checking things out in Manistee. The house was very pretty inside and immaculately cleaned. The owners were very gracious and even had a bottle of wine waiting for us, for our 40th. This house has everything you’d need for a wonderful stay. We hope to be back!!

Wonderful lakefront getaway
We loved our time at this property. In the past we have rented from a management company but it was a much better experience renting from the home owners. They are extremely kind, generous people and ensured we had everything we needed for a great week. The property was spotless and had everything we needed to make most of our meals there. We enjoyed the beach very much. In spite of the erosion everyone is fighting the property’s beach was perfect for our family with 4 young kids.

This is a beautiful, well loved and cared for property. Sunshine, sun castles, swimming, stargazing and s'mores, were just some of the things we enjoyed during our stay. The private beach was perfect, and the views from every window were amazing. We saw six spectacular sunsets, and one day of amazing lightning on the water during a storm. The owners have thought of everything. The town of Manistee is adorable, with many great restaurants, a movie theater with first run movies, sunset cruises, and a lighthouse nearby.

A lovely beach home
We enjoyed our stay at this Lake Michigan beach home. The private beach is excellent, the home is lovely and the proximity to Manistee, golf courses, Sleeping Bear Dunes and the best of Northern Michigan is amazing! The property owner does maintain strict limits on guests as well as day visitors due to ongoing issues with county and neighborhood officials over short term rentals so do respect the limits indicated in the house profile. Overall, we had an amazing time!

This house exceeded our expectations! Amazing views and location. Just what we needed for our family of 6. Plenty of room for us all to spread out and relax. Close to town but tucked away on a beautiful wooded street for the up north experience. We would recommend this vacation home to anyone and we plan to come back in warmer weather. Amazing view!
I don’t normally leave reviews but I do believe this feedback could help other families with small children be better prepared for their arrival and have better swimming expectations for the private beach. We had a similar experience with the beach that another reviewer has mentioned. For our stay in August, the beach at the house was significantly different than what was depicted in the online pictures. The difference was jarring and for a split second on arrival, made us think we might be at the wrong house. What’s tough is that we paid a much higher daily rental rate to stay in this house specifically based on the beach depicted in the pictures. For our entire stay, large rocks/boulders filled the shoreline along with multiple large dead trees, making swimming for the kids really difficult. I know it’s hard to control the erosion but I would suggest updating the house listing to reflect the current state of the beach. Had we known, we would have booked a different house that was a little more kid friendly or had more realistic swimming expectations. We made the best of it and visited many of the public and state beaches that were just a short drive away. Beach aside, the view was incredible and the house had everything you could need for the week. Lots of space for large groups to relax and not feel like you are sitting on top of each other. Steve was always available to answer a question and truly cared that we had a good experience. The 4th bedroom on the lower level did flood due to the AC unit but Steve was onsite immediately for repairs. He had the AC back up and running in less than 12 hours. Thank you Steve!

Jordan; We are sorry that the beach did not meet your expectations during your stay the pictures of the beach on our listing were taken in late May or early June of this year. We had 10 weeks rented this summer and had two weeks with a few days of very high winds directly out of the West that took a good amount of the sand away until the winds shifted from the southwest that resulted in our beach returning to a normal 30 to 35 feet wide. Unfortunately, the day before your stay we had experienced such weather. We would not advertise a private beautiful wide beach if it were not true. We do not have large dead trees on our beach. Please review all of the reviews of our home that mention our private beach.

Fantastic vacation spot
We rented Steve and Sandy's beach house for some time away for my sister's birthday. We had a wonderful time! Falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the waves from Lake Michigan was amazing! Fantastic views, good wifi, spacious and well appointed home, and an accommodating host. There are so many places and things a short drive away, we relaxed at the house or went for a scenic drive. Steve and his first mate Peter were great hosts taking us out on Portage Lake and Lake Michigan on Steve's boat.

Impressive house, beautiful views
The house was well equipped and organized. The grill was the cleanest I've ever seen for a rental house. We enjoyed the views and "chilling" on the patio. The property owner has no control over this but we do have to hope for lower water levels in the future. The winds and wave action caused significant beach erosion during the week of our stay, uncovering large rocks all along the shoreline along with a dead tree.

The entire stay was lovely. The owner met us at the house and showed us everything and was available via cell phone. The house was very clean and had absolutely everything that you need (except a water kettle!). Lots of room - though we were only 5 people so we only used the bedrooms upstairs. Beautiful sunsets and a lovely beach area. We very much enjoyed our stay and we made use of the tennis courts almost everyday and never had to wait to use them.

Incredible beach house
We had a fantastic time renting this beach house! The whole process of renting was so easy as Steve was very responsive. The house and furnishings were much nicer and higher quality than typical rental homes - including the bed linens and towels. The house and surrounding area was impeccably clean when we arrived. We decided to bring many of our own kitchen supplies, etc., but the house is so well appointed, it had everything we needed. The dune grass and the blue waters of the lake in the distance made for many memorable photographs. The beach was great for swimming, watching sunsets, evening fire pits, stargazing, and collecting Lake Michigan beach glass. We went on a couple of wonderful day trips checking out Lighthouses and hiking at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Along the way, we spotted bald eagles, green herons, trumpeter swans and a black bear! The opportunity to go out on Steve and Sandy’s boat was the cherry on top of an amazing vacation! This is a great property for families or groups of people as there is plenty of space and private beach area for a safe and relaxing vacation.

Great Property
Our family certainly enjoyed our stay at Steve and Sandy’s home. Their home was clean, well maintained, spacious and very accommodating. It was well equipped with everything needed to enjoy a relaxing and memory filled week. Games for the grandchildren, beach toys & chairs, quality linens, excellent grill, well stocked kitchen – you name it, they had it! The beach was fabulous, which many other properties do not have due to the high water levels. The sunset views from the home were outstanding! It was great to meet Steve. Outstanding accommodations at a gorgeous Lake Michigan setting. Roomy and comfortable from the living areas to the kitchen to the bedrooms. Excellent beds, linens and towels. Beautifully equipped kitchen. Perfect spot for our family with an easily accessable, wide beach, even in a summer when there is very little beach at other locations because the lake is so high. More than enough comfortable beach chairs and lounges. Simply put, this is the best Home Away home we have stayed in anywhere. Close enough to town with excellent restaurants and golf courses yet remote and quiet all the time. Excellent value for a great vacation.

Fantastic stay for a family!
Steve's property was exactly as advertised: clean, very well-stocked (with kitchen tools, linens and beach gear) and a great location. We were able to watch the kids easily from the deck right above the steps to a very nice beach and there was easy access to a nice play area, where we felt comfortable letting the kids wander. Steve was incredibly friendly and easy to communicate with. Any family (or families staying here -- we had a family of 4 and a family of 5) will have a wonderful time.

We absolutely loved staying at this home. So beautifully maintained and up to date and so clean! Everything you could need is provided with such obvious thought,the owner clearly cares about this place and your comfort. The pictures featured do not do justice to this place. Sitting at the love seat overlooking the beach was glorious. Beach area so clean and private. We found so much sea glass and yes, Petoskey stones. Short drive to downtown Manistee with great restaurants. Our family loved and took advantage of the basketball court, tennis court, and playground a short walk either down the beach or through the woods. We will definitely be returning to rent this home again. Thank you Steve, we loved staying at your home!

Awesome beach house
Our family of 8 (3 adult couples and 2 kids) had a spectacular memorable week at your perfect beach house. The location on the beach…….private, sandy, clean, fire pit and good water depth for youngsters all made for a very comfortable time for us all. We made good use of the many outdoor chairs provided and were very pleased with the kitchen facilities and outdoor grill. Bedrooms and bathrooms suited us fine too. Outstanding!
The house was absolutely beautiful. There was everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of dishes, cutlery, and appliances. The oven worked well (not sure what past review was referring to.) There was a one minute walk to the beach and one short flight of stairs to get to the water...very easy and accessible! The owners were lovely and accommodating. Short drive to downtown to shops, restaurants, and golf. We traveled with small children who loved the downstairs room with the twin bed and pull out trundle, and there was plenty of space in two of the upstairs bedrooms for the pack and play for the baby. The sunsets from the house were absolutely amazing, we had a great time and wanted for nothing. Thank you to the Doodys for a wonderful trip and for taking so much pride in your property!

This is a beautiful home which is well maintained and nicely decorated. views are fantastic
Wonderful place for sleeping 9 older adults. Living room, dining area, kitchen space are spacious and functional. Redone 2 sided fireplace is gorgeous. Hope it's functional next year. All bedrooms are spacious and attractive. Bathrooms are well appointed. Porch is great with lots of seating and a nice place to eat. Great view from there. Very easy access to the beach. The beach grass is beautiful even in a storm. Our wishlist is the following: 1) Really want rubber mats in both showers. Surface is slippery 2) replace oven. 3) A few extra bath towels and kitchen towels 4) table or floor lamps in living room. We like to read. This is the best place that we've stayed in our 21 years of getting together as a group. Thanks Stephen for taking such good care of us. I highly recommend this property. Owner takes a lot of pride in his property and is takes care of any problems promptly. PS. The coolest 2 drawer dishwasher ever!!

Beautiful property and spot on the lake - great choice
Really wonderful spot – gorgeous views and property. We had a mini family reunion of sorts at the house on the 4th of July week of this year and everyone just loved their time here. Stephen was great to deal with in set up, meeting us to walk through property, and finally closing out rental and deposit. The location is just perfect– outside of town enough to be quiet, but easy access to all the delightful spots and things to do in Manistee. The house itself is right on beach making back and forth throughout the day easy (especially with kids.) Low bluff so not a tremendous amount of stairs to climb each time. We were with both small children and seniors on this family vacation and all of them had no problem. The amenities of the association were also nice – the small playground for the kids, basketball court, etc. The house interior was beautiful and new. It felt open and comfortable. The 4th bedroom is more a second lower-level living space with a bed than a “bedroom” (no door, closest bathroom next floor and closest shower 2 floors up, and passes through to the garage) but worked for our purposes. Overall a great spot and would recommend as a great place to stay.

Hi Steve, everything was really great. My only recommendation is to try to designate a fuxed place on the beach to have a campfire. Maybe a fixed ring will keep all if the charred wood in lication for an easy clean up and avoid little pieces of charcoal in multiple places. As you can see..
