Jirafa gets its name from the shape of the bedroom balcony overlooking the open concept living space. Just off to the side is an indoor spa room to cool off from Merida's sun. Casa Jirafa is not only beautiful to look at, it's location could not be more perfect to visit the most exciting places within Merida's Centro. It is located just half a block from Santa Lucia Square, which has some of Merida's best restaurants and a traditional cultural show every Thursday night. Jirafa is also just a short walk to the main square, also called the "zocalo". There you can visit the oldest cathedral of the Americas or Casa de Montejo, the palace of the Spanish conquistador, and much more. The Casa itself is a one bedroom loft with two full baths, one en suite and the other is located off the main living area. The bedroom has a Romeo and Juliet style balcony on the second floor, giving the majority of the space towering two story ceilings. Casa Jirafa has its own unique style with custom pasta tile artwork to a private spa room with a green wall located right next to the living space. The master has a comfy queen size bed and an ensuite bath. The living room has a pull-out sleep sofa for extra guests. The entire space is newly renovated but preserves the colonial architecture. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need if you want to cook. Purified water is provided, as well as coffee. The refrigerator has ice made from purified water as well. We provide you with basic kitchen equipment and appliances including a toaster and coffee machine so that you can fuel up with a satisfying breakfast to start your day. Coffee, creamer and sugar is provided -- no need to run to the nearest mini-mart for these basics. The house has a light and open feel with the addition of numerous skylights for ventilation to help keep things cool as well as mini splits in all of the bedrooms and living spaces. High speed wifi is available throughout the house. And the home is equipped with everything you need to relax and enjoy your vacation. Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are all provided. Extras \- Cooking essentials so that you can cook your own meals when you feel like staying in \- Purified water and ice \- Every bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers \- High thread count and premium cotton bedding selected to ensure a good night’s rest \- Hi-speed wifi is available throughout the house \- Bluetooth speaker so you can listen to your own music \- 4 free beers - so you start start your vacation immediately upon arriving! Check-in & Check-out: Check in is available after 3pm. Check out is before 11am. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability at the sole discretion of the host. Early check-in availability is determined on the day of arrival and is a free courtesy to our guests. If you need a late check-out, then we might be able to permit it depending on the needs of our next guest, but we will charge a late check-out fee. General Rules: 1\. To book this space, you must be at least 21 years of age. 2\. The name on the reservation must match the person staying in the house. To verify, we may require a photo of ID of all people entering the property. 3\. Quiet hours are observed from 10pm to 8am on the interior and exterior of the property. The purpose of quiet hours is to maintain a quiet and comfortable environment for all guests and neighbors. 4\. No smoking inside the space. If a guest is found smoking or evidence of smoking is found after check-out there is a $500 USD fine. 5\. Please only flush toilet paper down the toilet. 6\. An excessive cleaning fee of a minimum of $75 USD will apply to any reservation which caused excessive cleaning services to be rendered. 7\. Guests are responsible for any breakage or damage to the property. Fees: \- The fee for overnight visitors above a total of 2 guests is $300 pesos per person per night. Any additional guests require prior approval from the host. \- Electricity is included for stays of 2 weeks or less; and for stays of longer than 2 weeks, no electricity is charged unless the usage greater is USD$3 a day for the 1BR or 2BR homes, or USD$5 a day for the larger homes. \- Lost key or electric key fob will result in a US$20 charge. \- We are not responsible for any left items after check-out. If we do have to ship an item, there is a minimum of $50 (depending on the size of the items) shipping fee by host plus the shipping company cost to ship the item. It may take up to 14 days before we can ship the items. Additional notes: In order to keep the pool clean and maintained during your stay and for future guests, our pool staff is scheduled to service the pool twice per week. The total service should take 30 minutes to 1 hour. Merida is a hot and humid climate, and this climate tends to host insects. As a result, you may see insects in the house. We do monthly extermination to try to prevent problems but it's not a perfect solution. We also supply bug spray and citronella candles to assist. We are not responsible for any items brought into or left at the house. If you believe that you left something in the house after your departure, then please let us know. We will verify whether we have the item and share our office address so that you may pick it up. We will store any such items in our ‘Lost and Found’ located in our office for 30 days. If no one has come to claim those items within the 30 days, then we will dispose of it. Furniture and décor from pictures may differ. I’ve traveled widely across the world and my stay at Casa Jirafa was in the top 1% of vacation rental experiences. The casita is absolutely beautiful, and looks even better than depicted in pictures, with high ceilings, a cute plunge pool, excellent air conditioning, and little artistic touches here and there. The property is conveniently located within a block of three restaurants serving solid Yucatán food (though check out the nearby markets, Taqueria La Lupita and Wayan’e for the REALLY good stuff) and there’s an awesome gelateria across the street. My friend and I didn't stay much in the house, but when we were there it was a nice escape from the weather. The dipping pool was fantastic, the beds were comfortable and the whole place was really well put together. I can't say enough about Beto. Everything that I asked for including early arrival and other tips were promptly responded to by Beto. This was much better than staying at a hotel. It is close to virtually everything you want to see in Centro. My only negative was the weather-the central part of the city lost power and so did we for the final day and a half. The home itself is absolutely beautiful and authentic to the local culture. The pool was such a fun bonus, especially after a long day in the Yucatán heat. The location is perfect for visiting all the must-see locations and everything is within a 10 minute walk, with plenty of restaurants, cantinas, and shopping along the way. But what truly places Casa Jirafa above and beyond any place we have ever stayed are the hosts. They answered every single question leading up to, during and after our stay, promptly and diligently. Their guidebook to Mérida is simply amazing, and they even provided more local favorites (less touristy) per our request. They secured an amazing driver from Mérida to Cancun for us, and even arranged last minute changes to the itinerary for stops at Chichen Itza and Cenote Ikkil. We prefer home rentals when traveling and for the most part have always had great experiences, but the hosts of Casa Jirafa are truly the most amazing and attentive we have ever encountered.
