Quaint, Charming, and Elegant!
What a marvelous cottage this is! Elegantly decorated, sumptuously comfortable, and brilliantly located amongst the grand homes of old Nantucket! My husband and I had two lovely days enjoying the quiet beautify of this charming historic home with its lovely garden and peaceful surroundings, jaunting out from time to time to see the town and enjoy its marvelous restaurants and inviting shops. Our hosts’ hospitality was impeccable and our stay will be memorably happy for years to come.

Perfect location / experience
this was our first time coming to Nantucket. The location of the cottage could not have been better. We enjoyed walking into town multiple times a day, walking to the beach, and just wandering around the surrounding neighborhood. The cottage is obviously well loved. Beautiful oil paintings and the garden was something special. If we ever find ourselves back up this way again, we will definitely stay in the same spot!

Quaint Cottage
This property is absolutely charming! The yard is a beautiful verdant garden complete with baby bunnies. The cottage is beautiful to look at and is very comfortable. All amenities are in there. Excellent location to center of town-about a 7 minute walk to where everything is happening. Parking for one car.

So perfect!
We had such a great time here! First of all, Porter was very responsive the entire time we were there. It is walking distance from town but also very quiet. The place is small and quaint but felt large enough for 5 people to have plenty of room. My step daughters thought it was the cutest house they had ever seen and we were all talking about when we could possibly go back again.

Lovely Cottage
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The cottage is well appointed with comfortable furnishings, beautiful art, antiques and decor. This quaint house is surrounded by other pretty houses on a quiet street with gardens and hedged-in privacy. The caretaker of this house was attentive and easily reachable for anything we needed. Retaining its historical character but lovingly updated for the present and thoughtfully outfitted for all your needs. the cottage is like a step back in time. Fabulous, serene town house
We had a wonderful three night stay at Porter’s absolutely lovely spot! The house is located at the dead end of Howard Court and provides tons of coziness, charm, and privacy, with beautiful gardens to greet you upon your arrival. Fabulous Matouk towels made us feel very pampered, and we all had great sleeps in the very comfy beds. Our 17-year-old daughter loved the coziness of the smaller upstairs bedroom, and our other teenage daughter said that her upstairs room was so welcoming and comfortable. If you like antique homes that are meticulously kept and beautifully appointed, don’t miss out on this house! Also, the walk to town could not be any easier!

Best Stay with VRBO Ever!
We have rented quite a bit around the world with VRBO and this has been our best experience. The home is lovely – quintessential Nantucket. Absolutely spotless and well appointed. Perfect In town stay!
If there were 10 stars, I would give them. This is such a gem of a property and the owners couldn't be more graceful and accommodating. We were there with one other couple and it was perfect. You can walk into town and to great restaurants, and we rented electric bikes (we're a little old") and tripped around the whole island. But this property is so special, God willing we will be back. Thank you!!!

Idyllic in-town cottage!
I have been renting on Nantucket for 25 years and this is as good as it gets at this price point. The home is meticulously maintained, thoughtfully appointed, and extremely fresh and clean. Even though it’s an antique, it lives like a newer house (open floor plan, lots of light, high end appliances, Matouk bedding and towels, central A/C). The location can’t be beat...right in town but hidden away on a quiet, private road.

Island sanctuary!

Majestic Hedged in Cottage in Town
As a lifetime summer Nantucketer, I can’t say enough about the home at 8 Howard Street. From the art collection to the copper pots, everything at this home is of the highest standard and they have created an authentic Nantucket experience. We hosted a small gathering in the garden to commentate my mother’s passing, and the setting on the lawn was perfect. We will definitely be back to this gem!

Secret Garden!
This cottage was an amazing oasis hidden away but very walkable to town. The gardens are beautiful. It was well appointed and very clean. The beds were comfortable with nice linens. One thing to note, in the kitchen there is a refrigerator with a small freezer in the bottom. The other 2 drawers are refrigerators too. There are 2 freezer drawers in the shed if needed. Porter was very responsive and a great host!

Extremely Charming house in a Great Location, 5min from town by foot.
We loved this house, and as we frequently stay at vrbo homes when we travel we believe this house is among the best in its' price range here in Nantucket. This house is so well kept by the property managers it is impressive. Everything was perfect upon our arrival. Charm oozes from this property, and it feels fairly private at the end of Howard Court. The decoration and furnishings were clearly well thought out, and not over the top or dated as you can find in many houses on the Island. The yard is small, but beautiful with excellent landscaping. Main street probably 30 seconds away by foot, and the walk down to town is quick. Don't miss this house!

We had a great experience staying in this house. It is a charming place to be - gardens are lovely and the interior is extremely well-appointed. We appreciated the comfy beds, thick towels and a true cook's kitchen! The location is perfect, with an easy walk or bike to town, but completely private off a small dirt road. The owners were responsive and helpful, and obviously take great care to make sure their house feels like home to their guests.

This house was simply perfect for our party of three. The location is great - just a few blocks from downtown Nantucket, close enough to walk, and just far enough that there is peace and quiet in its magical garden. The house and garden feel like stepping back in time. Porter has thought of everything - the house had every convenience, some breakfast goodies to welcome us, and everything we needed for a day at the beach. And she kindly gave us some tips on places to visit and restaurants. I can't say enough good things, and can't wait to be back!

The home was cozy and beautiful. It is very conveniently located and a quick walk to town. It is situated in a quiet area just off the Main Street. The owners had a welcome basket with breakfast items waiting for us and wanted to be sure we had what we needed. Our last day was some bad weather and our ferry was canceled in the morning and they were so kind to let us stay until we were able to get a ferry off the island later that day. We highly recommend this as a place to stay and will rent here on our next trip to Nantucket!

We love Nantucket, and we love to travel. Having said that, this experience surpassed any of our previous rental experiences in a number of ways. First, the hosts were available, communicative, and supportive. We arrived to find a kitchen stocked with exceptional breakfast items and a home beyond our expectations. The decor, attention to detail, and convenience of this home were astounding. There was a place for everything and everything was in its place (exactly where you would expect or want it to be). All of the materials and tools were of excellent quality and we found ourselves making notes of items we wanted to find in Nantucket or in the world to bring home that we spotted or tried there. Second, the home itself was comfortable, beautiful, and steeped in history. Several Nantucket landmarks were steps away and the garden was a retreat in and of itself. The home had so much character, we felt like we were staying in a fairy tale cabin....with a curved staircase, a gas stove/fireplace in the kitchen, and tiny multipaned windows that looked out on grazing deer every morning and evening. The winds were insane at some points during our trip and while they roared around the house, we never felt a draft and felt snug and safe in our comfortable abode. Third, we could not have asked for a better location. We were traveling with our six year old and we could walk two blocks and be in the center of town, four and we were at a grocery store, five and we were at the ferry, two blocks in a different direction and we were on a bike path (perfect for running and walking as well). This area is ideal for someone who wants to explore the history and architecture of Nantucket. This was our third trip to the island and we learned so much staying here. Even our daughter was inspired to ask to tour other homes because she was so interested and engaged by the one we were staying in. Lastly, this was the first time we had ever rented a place that felt like “home.” We have stayed at a number of great VRBOs and we have been lucky enough to feel like the places we stayed were well loved by their owners, but we always felt like “guests,” like we were borrowing the space from friends. In this case, we were actually able to relax and feel like we could luxuriate in the surroundings and enjoy the ambiance in a way that made us feel like it was ours. Thank you for providing our family a glimpse of the pleasure and joy that is living on Nantucket.

Perfection
We came with friends to celebrate our anniversaries. It was the first time in Nantucket for all of us and it was perfect. The house is lovely with every amenity we could have wanted. We were here in late October with brisk temps and a little storm. We rented a jeep one day and explored the island which I highly recommend, but you don't need a car to explore the historic downtown area from the cottage. It is a great location! There was even a basket of fruit, coffee, and breakfast items when we arrived which was so appreciated after a long day of travel. Don't hesitate to rent this amazing home, it is truly a gem.

Great three nights at this Cottage !
My wife , I, and another couple spent three (3) nights at this Cottage in Nantucket. Words cannot describe this warm, cozy, well decorated cottage within walking distance of downtown Nantucket ( 3-4 blocks). The privacy location, the outdoor patio and well manicured yard greatly contributed to our enjoyment...and our wives , being interior designers, raved over all the interior furnishings , especially the many art pieces on the walls, the warm cozy kitchen with the electric stove etc.. The overall ambience is definitely a plus. Since this was our first visit to Nantucket, Porter was very accomodating and helpful on local sites of interest, restaurants...which greatly contributed to us enjoying this trip. I would highly recommend this Cottage, and we will definitely stay here on our next trip to The Grey Lady.

We loved this cottage. Everything was clean and comfortable.
We enjoyed the garden and ate our breakfast out there. The cottage was a short walk into Nantucket Town. We enjoyed the privacy and historical nature of the home. The only disappointment was the pictures posted made it seem the cottage was quite near the shore which was not correct. Otherwise it was a great experience.

Amazing attention to detail including vast collection of oil paintings. Furnishings were far superior then most rentals & the location was within easy walking distance of downtown. We would highly recommend to adults. I would be concerned that rental to anyone with kids would be disastrous as there are MANY items that could be broken or damaged. The owners have done a great job of decorating & making the place a home away from home.

Charming cottage, well appointed, and well stocked. Could use curtains in the downstairs bedroom
We loved the cottage and especially enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the garden. We saw a lot of Nantucket from Madaket to Siasconset and everything in between. Sad to be leaving today!

Can’t wait to come back!!
Our trip to the “Secret Garden” was last minute after a local hotel cancelled our reservation because we had children present. Well, it was the best thing that could’ve happened to us! We arrived early to drop off our bags so we could explore the area sans luggage in tow. This alone was a treat! When we first laid eyes on the cottage, we decided it was perfectly named as we felt like we had our very own garden escape. The housekeeper and homeowner were still there tending to last minute details, so it wasn’t until we returned later that we were able to explore. There was a lovely bottle of rosé in the fully stocked, immaculate kitchen which was a wonderful gesture. We were quick to sit out in the garden and enjoy it in the late afternoon sun. The home itself was not only clean, but cozy, and well decorated. It truly felt as if we had been there all our lives. We only stayed overnight but are sure to return one day as we loved our stay. A few days after our return home, they contacted us to inform us we had left behind our toddler’s beloved blankie and that they would put it in the mail immediately. You can’t imagine our daughter’s joy when she learned it had been recovered! Thank you Secret Garden...we will be back as soon as we can!

Cozy Cottage
The cottage was so cozy and charming. It was just the right size for 2 couples, the kitchen was a cook's dream and the art in the cottage was outstanding. Suggestions would be to have more towels in the bathrooms or when the cleaner visits to change out the towels and new pillows in bedroom downstairs. Upstairs bedroom was very comfortable. Close enough to town we walked every day. We loved it and would most certainly rent again.
