Beautiful old building converted into a 6 room hotel. Excellent views over Napier as it is at the top of a hill. Great breakfast. Very comfortable rooms.

Stunning house with equally stunning views.

Do not stay here.
Difficult and dangerous to find. The owner herself informed us that four of her guests got into serious car accidents trying to find the place. Avoid. Thank you.

We are not difficult to find - we are 5 minutes from the town centre on Napier Hill - if anyone experiences problems we would be happy to provide guidance over the phone. Unfortunately Google Maps directs guests the wrong way up a one way street - hence my advice not to follow this advice and simply follow the alternate route sat navs will provide or the one given on our website. Thousands of guest have found us over the years without mishap.

Missed the expectation
Please remember that this is not a real hotel.. This is basically a house with a few rooms that you are renting for the duration of your stay. The house is a rather beautiful Victorian style that was built in early 1900s. The check in time is from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. If you end up showing there outside of this window then there might not be someone there to help you. This is rather a narrow time window and I am not sure why the hotel staff expect this to be okay with travellers. We arrived at the McHardy lodge around 7:30 P.M. since I did not read the email regarding the check in time. If I knew about the requirement for the check in time, then i would have not booked the place to begin with. The hostess was rather rude and I have never experienced such an interface before. Her tone was sarcastic and demeaning. I am sure for the price this place charges the staff could be a bit more accommodating and friendly. Also the hostess mentioned that the fan in the bathroom can only be used for 10 minutes or the fuse may pop and then we will be without electricity for the rest of the night. I can't understand why they can't fix their fuse box and their wiring. I was just so happy to leave this place the next day.

Fabulous all round
This was last minute expedia replacement accommodation and "wow" it is a fabulous place to stay. Rooms are a good size and the house is amazing. The breakfast we can recommend. Would certainly recommend this luxurious accommodation and would stay here again.

Loved our time there
Beautifully restored and furnished mansion run by Yvonne, who was very attentive. Property is on a quiet hilltop with a spectacular view of the bay. Enjoyed meeting other interesting guests

Beautiful Lodge in Napier
Yvonne Johnstone is a superb host, and she makes you feel very welcome in her lovely lodge. The view of the city and water is amazing. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed, and the common spaces are grand and welcoming. The breakfasts are top notch as well. Yvonne was very helpful in organizing activities in and around Napier, and I greatly appreciated her recommendations. I highly recommend the McHardy Lodge.

Just what we were looking for
We just completed a wonderful two-night stay at McHardy Lodge in Napier, and we wish we could have stayed longer. Yvonne was a lovely host, ready with lots of local knowledge and recommendations. Breakfast each morning was superb, and the rooms and overall lodge accommodations phenomenal. Beautiful views of the city from the breakfast table as well. We will be back.

Luxurious comfort
A short weekend break away from the city in a luxurious villa in Napier. From our initial greeting from Yvonne to saying good bye we were treated as VIP guests, truly spoilt. Wonderful breakfast prepared and served looking out over a great view of the bay.
