Great location if you need to stay in Oakland. Clean and appropriately priced for a 3 star. Place needs updating. Ran into a series of problems towards the end of our 4 night stay and the manager went out of his way to correct and apologize. You don't get that at the big chain hotels.

Nice Stay

Pros: Crazy large room!
Cons: Garage door to an unattractive storage/working area kept open all the time, right next to the pretty front entry. Annoying to come back to every day.
Location: Nice area to walk around and right on the water so pretty views. Weird pocket of niceness. Only felt safe walking at night within one block of hotel.
We had a nice experience staying at this hotel. Love the wine/cheese each night. Our daughters enjoyed the pool. Room decor is dated, but it was so large, that made up for it.

Excellent hotel, amazing staff

The gentleman at the front desk working at night was amazing. He's the only reason why i plan to stay here again. Took good care of me the two nights i stayed there.

Good value

Pros: proximity to the ferry and downtown business/work meetings restaurant at hotel was good.
only watch-out is that you can hear the very loud train whistle throughout the day/night too.

Very Nice!

Very nice hotel with big rooms. Very clean. Beds were a bit soft but overall ok. Parking was $30 a day for our car to be parked right in front. Although that's a reasonable price for the area it seemed unnecessary. Would definitely recommend.

I had prepaid EXPEDIA for my aunts who are in their 80s. When we arrived, the hotel staff told us they were overbooked and had no room for us.

Enjoyed everything but one employee, who happened to be the on checking me in . Anything requested, she had a no chambered . Others would step in and help ( we asked for a crib)

Bad neighbours

You would expect that a hotel that has lots of vacancy would consider guest comfort and noise levels when assigning rooms - not the case. We had very loud and disruptive guests in the room sharing our wall and the rest of the wing was empty. Called front desk at 1 am as fight next door getting concerning but they did not resolve the issue. Worst sleep in a hotel ever. Then my one hour of full sleep was interrupted by the room phone and the bellman announcing the taxi arrival 30 mins earlier than scheduled; every minute of sleep precious at 4 am after the disruptive attempt at sleep. I will not go back.

Excellent hotel

Location: The hotel is located in Jack London Square, a tourist attraction in Oakland that's actually quite pleasant, with its view of the docks and the water.
I found the Waterfront Hotel to be a really great hotel. Location is terrific. Valet parking staff make arrival and departure easy. The facility itself is up to date. The Wi-Fi in the room works. The hotel is very clean, as are the rooms. Interior décor reminds me of a good European hotel - tasteful and not over-bearing. The beds are comfortable and the neighborhood is quiet at night. Coffee in the room is from Keurig cups, so it's not the best in the world, but it's acceptable and easy. The hotel restaurant is very good and not unreasonably priced (you might want to make reservations in advance). Overall, worthy of a "5."
