I have stayed at the Criterion Hotel before and I have always been satisfied. It's not the newest or brightest place around. However, if you only want a place to sleep overnight then, for the price it's hard to beat. Every time I come over to Perth it's the Criterion Hotel website that I check first when booking a room.

The building is old with a retro 1920’s look, with updated room photos on the website, my room reminded me of staying at my grandmothers house, very basic, clean with all facilities, my only complaint is unfortunately the bed was too basic and made for an uncomfortable sleep. I chose the hotel for convenience as it was the pick up location of my tour the following morning. Many other options are in easy walking distance.

The hotel is standard for the price. Queen size bed slopes towards the centre making two people sleeping a little uncomfortable. Nevertheless we always stay here when visiting Perth for short stays.

Threadbare common areas, but clean and tidy rooms
The public areas are a bit threadbare, but the rooms are very tidy and serviceable. I stayed in two room types as I had two different reservations, both were very good. Due to Perth's high summer weather temperatures the air conditioning had a bit of a tough time keeping up. It was best to close the bathroom door so as to not waste any cool air.

What a disgrace this hotel was. I’m surprised it passes any health inspections. Feel like you’re going to fall through floorboards in foyer! The smell throughout the place was revolting. Smells like rising damp & rot. My deposit was 2x the amount I paid for the room for 1 night.

- Located in walkable distance from city center, train and bus station. - My room is better than in the picture. - Supermarket with great value food is located next to hotel, very convenient. - Budget hotel with all needed facilities including hair dryer and hot water. - Staffs are nice and very helpful. - Be careful if you walk back to hotel at night, there are some homeless people near the hotel. Look around and try to stay to the main road.

Pros- good location during the day a bit unsafe at night. Close to loads of cafes and dining. Paid parking only. Cheap for the location. Cons- Small room, hard lumpy bed, 1 blanket, tiny bathroom

Unfortunately, the hotel was not as advertised. Restaurant and Bar closed, no house keeping on weekends, shower curtains in rooms not screens as per the photos. The management were rude and unable to help with any issues. The rooms were smelly and old and there were stains on the carpet.

This hotel is close to Hays Mall so easy access to dining options and attractions to visit. The hotel is 1920's age so some of the property is old and needs some attention. The staff were very obliging and friendly. The rooms were basic and in reasonable condition given the age of the place.
