Horrible vacation. Concierge is just another attempt to get you to "upgrade" your all inclusive package or book excursions. "All inclusive" is not all inclusive. Different color bracelets allow you to have access to different areas of resort,beach, and alcohol choices or bars for an additional charge.The room was a plain. No coffee maker. No ice bucket or ice machine. They do not stock the mini fridge. Beds and pillows were HARD and uncomfortable.Toilet wouldnt flush.They came to fix it twice but I still had to remove the lid to the tank and mess with it after anyone used it.Shower leaked onto floor horribly.Leak spraying out of tile grout when you shower. The window in bathroom was stuck open and the handle to close was broken off.Walls are thin.Heard a child crying all day/night the whole time we were there.Housekeeping closets were right bedside bedroom doors and you could hear them talking and walkie talkie noises very early in the morning.Not enough chairs around pools for guests.Guests would place a towel and leave for hours and come back to their "saved chairs."Buffet was average. Hot foods were cold and food that was suppose to be cold were warm.Service was hit or miss.Had a whole meal without being offered water or a beverage.Didnt get to eat at the 2 a la carte restaurants as they only take 2 reservations per hour and were booked they entire 4 days I was there.Bar service slow.The color of your bracelet determines your level of service.GO ELSEWHERE!!!

Para cenar en los restaurantes que no son buffet hay que reservar por la mañana hasta cierto horario, me gustaría que se pudiera aun por la tarde (si ya no hay espacio comprendo). Como todos estos hoteles de all inclusive te quieren vender su plan para captarte por varios años y te hace una muestra de venta, por la cual te dan un cupón de descuento para actividades. Te dicen que dura hora y media, pero fue casi las 2 horas, te ven 3 personas distintas que te repiten la misma información una y otra vez, entiendo que insistan un poco para convencerte pero me pareció innecesario escuchar la misma información y repetir ejemplos para usarlos.

Very good trip. Unfortuntately we were there during the hurricane. The food was very good. Not enough staff bt the ones that were working went out of our way, especially Jose Carbajal, from the moment we arrived.they shoukd be oroud to hae someone that makes customers feel so comfortable.

I was at this hotel at the beginning of July. The property has beautiful gardens and it's well located. The food was good, the best service was breakfast with a lot of options for you to choose from. The snacks needed better options and better service, it was not good at all. The bedroom was well decorated, and equipped with a convenient mini fridge. The bed was too hard, so I had trouble sleeping, also the pillows were hard and big. if you have back problems you will suffer. The daily housekeeping needs to actually clean the room because they only change towels, make beds, and take garbage out. The floors needed to be clean daily. The really bad thing, the concierge contacts you daily to offer their vacation packages even when you say you are not interested. They offer many things for ¨free¨. Over all a nice hotel

We returned to The Reef for our 20 year anniversary as we had spent our 10 year there and thought it would be sentimental. We were disappointed in the condition of the facilities, mostly our room. There was supposed to be decor for the anniversary and it was not there when we arrived. I messaged the online chat and they said that it would be noted and it would be taken care of. Nothing was ever done. Bars were understaffed and the cups were dirty. All mixed drinks tasted very watery. Everyone there is a salesman, we were called in our room daily, cards were left in the door, staff that we passed constantly tried to sell services to us. We did book an excursion through the Dive Center. We did not have exact cash and were told that the person who booked us would get it to us but we never saw him again and never got the change. Our tv did not work for 3 of the 5 days we were there even though we contacted the front desk daily to try to have it resolved. Most staff were friendly in the restaurants. The beach is beautiful and the area is kept clean. The jungle landscape is very neat.

Pros: Very clean overall. New/renovated rooms with good room service. Courteous staff. Beach is good and it is close. Bar close by the beach. Pool close by the beach. Upper pool close to rooms with pool bar. Night entertainment. Serving modelo beer everywhere ( some bars even serve modelo dark). Good price transportation from and to airport. Overall good response to Hurricane Beryl. Cleaned up in a day. Cons: overall small property( its a plus for the distance) with less staff. A big minus for me is serving drinks: they only serve in the restaurant and buffet. Less equipment for the bars like the plastic cups; multiple times i notice the only bartender in the big bar(main pool) leaves and starts collecting cups so He can clean them and then fulfill people’s orders. imagine how long of a wait for a single beer that could be. The restaurant, there is one right on top of the buffet. So there is only one kitchen serving all the indoor food. The buffet closes at 11 so if you want coffee after that you will have to wait or start asking around. Espresso in the front office is not included in the all inclusive. Also the bar closest to the beach is VIP so u cannot ask them for anything? Also if you feel like going to the one hot tub it is also VIP. It is odd, I’ve never been in an All inclusive place that i was told my membership doesn’t include so many basic things. The food was good, just limited choices. mojito and cocktails are made from concentre. We would not come back.

We chose the Reef Playacar and opted for all inclusive for the last three nights of our Playa del Carmen vacation, after diving for 4 days. While we didn’t have a ton of food options at the buffet (my son and I are gluten free by necessity), the staff was willing to grill chicken, beef or fish for us and one night they made french fries in a separate fryer. We found all the staff were friendly, nice and helpful. We could not get served at the swim-up pool bar with so many people sitting on the available stools for hours, but we found the bar on the backside of the snack bar always had a short line and a great bartender. We brought many small bills ($1-10) for tipping since we read the reviews that many people still tipped, but we didn’t mind because everyone we saw worked very hard and worked for many hours while we enjoyed our vacation. We would stay at the Reef Playacar again for a short time, mainly because the all inclusive isn’t our thing and we liked staying at a downtown hotel the days we were diving, but we really enjoyed our time at the Reef Playacar.

The facilities are very clean and cozy. Very friendly staff. Only problem is the dining area is too small for all the guests. Very good food but no sufficient tables. Which makes huge waiting line. Also the bars close too early and they leave the pool open but no bar around. And theres no bar in the beach area.

The hotel itself was very beautiful, like a rainforest resort. The bedroom area could be a bit more up to date, but the bathrooms seemed to be more modern. Our section of rooms had a very strong seafoodish smell. However the breakfast lunch and dinner buffet were pretty good: a good mix of different cuisine everyday.
