Quirky Hotel Puts A Bird On It!

Posted Apr 19, 2017
Pros: Great location, quirky decor, free drinks & entertainment at happy hour, down feather bedding, free bike rentals, very quiet and pet friendly
Cons: Hotel parking was priced at $42/a day. Excessive! We found cheaper parking across from Ground Kontrol Arcade off of 5th Ave. A 5 minute walk away!
Location: Go to Voodoo Doughnut & Powell's books. Get tea at the Lan Su Gardens, walk the Esplanade & visit the Portland Art Museum. Pingball at Ground Kontrol!
We're from NYC and wanted the Portland experience for our vacation with a few roadtrips for some quality hiking. Kimpton is centrally located and had a quirky look. Our hotel room had wallpaper of ducks flying around the room. Even our lamp had duck feet. There are so many other decorating features that are too numerous to list here but our favorite part of the room was the funky zebra and cheetah robes provided. We enjoyed our first night's happy hour with a giant chess board on the floor. Some nights there was live music and a very engaging tarot reader. Early in the morning, coffee, tea and a newspaper would be provided. Many people brought dogs to the hotel but you'd never know it throughout the night. It was really quiet. They even had a welcome poster and treats for the dogs staying at the hotel. My husband enjoyed the complimentary bike he used along the waterfront and I liked the close proximity to the famous VooDoo Doughnuts, Powell Bookstore, The Original Diner, and the RedStar Restaurant. We were a 45 minute drive away from the Multnohmah Falls and a 1.5 hr. drive way from Silver Falls State Park. Great Hiking! Ten minute walking distance to the Lan Su Chinese Garden where there's a lovely tea ceremony. We also checked out the Portland Art Museum and the Esplanade. I wish we got around to seeing the Saturday outdoor markets (we took a 3 hour road trip to Cape Perpetua instead) and would love to check out a Ted Talks or a Jazz concert at STARS next time. Loved it!

Thank you Mary, we do our best to represent Portlandia! Looks like you had an amazing stay; you did more than some folks who live here! I hope you can make it back for the summer, it's a whole different world once the sun is shining and the festivals, concerts and events return. Hope to see you! Robert General Manager

nice hotel in downtown Portland

Posted Apr 9, 2017
Pros: The location and the stylish decor. Free wine hour is a nice touch
Cons: Food needs improvement. We ordered room service as we'd had a long day out and the menu was limited and the quality was just not great.
Location: downtown Portland, plenty of dining and shopping options. Walking distance to the river and to Powells bookstore.
We only stayed 1 night, but liked this hotel for the most part. Very stylish "living room" where they served wine and a fun whiskey cocktail from 5 to 6. I always request an upper floor, but we were on the second floor. Because of its location right downtown, street noise was a bit of an issue which might not have been as easy to hear from an upper floor. But it was only 1 night so I didn't bother requesting a different room.

Hello Cindy, glad you enjoyed our fun decor and Social Hour, but our apologies on missing the mark on dining. Normally our restaurant team is really on point, so we're sorry we let you down in that regard! Please come back soon, we'll make sure to get you on a higher floor too! Robert General Manager

Mishmash of patterns

Posted Mar 31, 2017
Pros: Convenient, well maintained,
Cons: Get a different decorator. The overabundance of different patters was just too much. Even the two chairs had different pattern on upholstery.
Location: On a red line from airport, walking distance to Powels bookstore. Convenient to both buses and all light rail lines.
Decorator got no taste. Too may clashing patters. Garbage track woke me up every morning at 4AM. But room was spacious, well equiped, well maintained with comfortable bed. No massage shower, but other amenities excellent. Shame that at that money one does not get free WiFi.

Thanks very much for joining us, and apologies that our decor was a bit over the top! Our design team worked very hard to create a departure for the ordinary, but perhaps we got carried away. Regarding WiFi, it's complimentary with Kimpton Karma membership, so please consider that for your next stay. Robert

Room smelled like urine

Posted Mar 27, 2017
My first impression of the hotel was very good but when I opened the door to my room the first thing I noticed was that it smelled like pet urine. Ironically, I had been "upgraded" to a suite but while the layout and décor were nice, the smell was distracting. I should've changed rooms but I was so tired and hungry I just put up with it hoping I wouldn't notice after a while. Then I went to use the workout room which was in a windowless room and the t.v. and treadmill monitors weren't working. Perfect.

Our most sincere apologies Jack. We've got an extensive cleaning protocol in place for any room that has a pet in it and I'm sorry we missed the mark for you. We'll also make sure the TV's in our gym are working properly so it doesn't impact another guest's stay. Hope you can make it back and give us another chance to make it up to you. If that's the case I'd welcome your reaching out to me directly to assist you with a reservation. Robert General Manager

Cute hotel in the heart of Portland

Posted Mar 3, 2017
Pros: Conveniently located downtown Portland, next to restaurants, stores, malls, transportation, and parking garage. Nice decor, good sized rooms.
Cons: Noise insulation, my room was kind of loud
Location: Apple store, Nordstrom, and other prime retail locations available. Restaurant on premise saerves good breakfast.
Very nicely renovated hotel, richly decorated in an eclectic style. Good service and spacious rooms, with wide screen tv and comfortable beds. Only flaw is that some room (or at least mine) can be a little loud at night. Definitely a good value for the price

Lovely room in the middle of Downtown

Posted Mar 2, 2017
The stuffs were very kind. The hotel offers so many nice comforts such as yoga mat, bike rental and even social hour with wine and cheese. They upgraded our room to the higher and bigger room :) that made our night even more special! We will be back for sure!

Roomy, in the heart of Portland.

Impeccible. Check in quick and accurate. Hotel bustling but not crowded. Access to room was easy. Suite was roomy and everything available. Been there before and always will stay there in Portland
