Disappointed

Posted Aug 27, 2015
Not what I expected. Once you step foot into the resort there's a weird smell. The food was horrible you need reservations to get into the restaurants which can only be made the day of between 7am-11am and you have to go down to the actual restaurant. The room service menu was disappointing as well only had about 6 items on it. The bed in the room was hard as a rock. We experienced one black out while we were there. But I must say the pool beach and entertainment crew were amazing.

The hotel staff is amazing! They really worked hard and helped accommodate you in any way they were able. We really enjoyed our stay. The only disappointing part of our trip was the food. The buffet consisted of some Dominican dishes, which were delicious, but most of the buffet was American dishes. The Amerian dishes were not good. The meat dishes were not good at all. We mostly stuck to seafood or chicken. The a la carte restaurants were not worth taking the time to make a reservation. We were disappointed with the restaurant dishes. The buffet was definitely the best. The only complaint we have about the room was the bed and the blankets on the bed. The bed was really hard.

Overall very nice...

Had a great experience with my family. I wish a had a room facing the pool side and not the back of the hotel... Also There was a lot of young people there and a lot of fighting at night. Not what I would say is for kids but great if you go without kids...

Grande albergo stile coloniale sulla spiaggia

Posted Aug 19, 2015

Excellent but disappointed....

Posted Aug 17, 2015
Pros: In general the staff is very friendly and helpful, their food, location...
Cons: The honesty from stuff in charge of housekeeping, is unbelievable that things are stole from rooms, reduce prices from hotel shops, are extremely high
Location: ok...not to far from downtown Punta Cana
I went to this hotel with my wife and grandson to celebrate our birthdays and at the same time have fun, is not our first time in RIU hotels and everything was perfect until 2 days before our comeback to the US my wedding ring and a necklace disappear from my night table's drawer. The room has safety deposit box but is impossible to fit everything into there. The only people that had access to the room were the maid, minibar restocking personnel and maid supervisors. I notified the incident to the hotel management and the answer was that why I didn't put in the safety deposit box and my question to the management was why someone has to be digging into the guest stuff? They said that will be investigating but at the end they sent me a $40 bottle of rum and a bottle of Champaign for my lost. I think that incident like this undermine the credibility and quality of resorts like this one...

Beautiful hotel

Posted Aug 16, 2015
Pros: The lobby was gorgeous and all the bars had friendly staff. Drinks were plenty strong. Good value for the money.
Cons: The rooms need to be updated. Bedspreads were old and stained.
Location: The pools were awesome. Seaweed was affecting the ocean swimming time. There were plenty of beach loungers and nice shade from the palm trees.
First impression of the hotel was very good. Beautiful lobby with bar close by. The rooms are very outdated but relatively clean and neat. The bed was hard but I slept very well. The room had good space and the balcony was lovely. Maid service was excellent. Be sure to turn up your fridge when you get there, otherwise, the beverages don't cool.

Would not recommend this hotel.

Posted Aug 15, 2015
Pros: To be honest I did not like much. I have been to other resorts and this is the first time at the Riu and I doubt I would ever stay at another Riu.
Cons: The staff needs to learn english and be more on point. I travel multiple times per year and this is the first resort I have seen this type of service
Location: Resort is on the beach if there is no seaweed you might get to enjoy it. It looks very nice with amazing water.
I knew we were paying a premium for this place and accepted it knowing it is a reputable name and figured at least I know we would be in good hands. Boy was I wrong. We booked 2 rooms and our room breaker kept tripping, toilet was runny constantly and the toilet seat was broken. We asked for a second key for my moms room and was told to go get it at 10 am the next day to then be told to come back at 1 pm then eventually 2 days later that they would switch the room since they couldn't get another key (no card key here but physical key). Most of the staff spoke no English and the few that did spoke very little. Waited for the shuttle to go shopping asked the bell boy what time the shuttle was coming and was told in a few minutes only to find out half an hour later the shuttle had already left. The food was great saturday nigh and then down hill from then on. Spoke to other guests and they voiced the same view. The club is not at the hotel but in a sister property about 20 minutes walk away and not drinks are not included. I booked this place primarily for the beach only to head to the beach to find a ton of sea weed. About 5 feet of sea weed between the shore and the water. They tried to clean it but could only make huge piles from what was on the sand the water they could not clean. There was no one in the water. Very disappointing. I complained to the supervisor then the manager (Neils) about the issue with the rooms was told he would compensate but still waiting
