Sierra City Retreat - Walking Distance to Waterfall & PCT

Relax in gorgeous great room with a wood-burning stove, hang out on two decks-- one with views of the Sierra Butte's sneaking through the trees. The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is a ten-minute walk from the cabin, as is the bridge over the confluence of Haypress and Yuba rivers on Wild Plum Road. Sardine/Salmon lakes and the lakes basin is just a ten-minute drive with endless hiking possibilities. The wireless internet is fast enough to stream movies on our projector or to have zoom meetings if you are working from the cabin. This would be a good writing retreat if you are looking for a 2 week to month stay which we would be open to doing at a discount. A couple of important notes: To access the upstairs you should be comfortable navigating the spiral staircase (in photos). The great room, main bedroom, kitchen and bathroom are all downstairs so it's not necessary to get upstairs if that is an issue for one or more guests. Second, as seen in the photos, the upstairs has a queen and two twin beds, but there are no doors; so there is not the same level of privacy you have with the downstairs bedroom. In the winter you should also be comfortable working a wood-burning stove (which is simple to operate). We are ok with a well behaved dog.

Perfect Peaceful Spot Among the Pines
What a neat spot! It's in a nice quiet neighborhood with trails nearby and many more just down the road. The house is quite large but has everything you could want. Can't wait to come back in the summer :)

After Christmas Family Getaway
It's just as described. Our family does a winter getaway each year after Christmas, and this cabin was an excellent fit for our group of 8. Even with only one bathroom, it was never an issue. We enjoyed going on a hike and walking through the neighborhood. The spiral stairs added charm to the cabin.

Terrific, traditional cabin close to staggering beauty
Everything was exactly what we needed and hoped for - a break from work/technology and the chance to be in a small, quiet Sierra town, away from the madness that is now Tahoe. The Lakes Basin recreation area is 10-15 minutes up the road and offers endless outdoor opportunities for hiking, fishing, swimming, mountain biking, horseback riding or just sitting gazing at vistas comparable to the Alps or Dolomites. Stunning scenery. The cabin was extremely comfortable, well-equipped, and nestled amongst trees. Our host was extremely responsive and helpful.

Outstanding accommodations for a family getaway
Perfect for me and my husband and our adult children to gather for a few days. Terrific location to small town conveniences, hiking trails and recreation. Super comfy beds, large sunny living room area, full kitchen and two outdoor decks for relaxation. The narrow spiral staircase leading to the two bedroom spaces upstairs is a bit tricky to navigate (as properly noted in the description), but there are also outdoor stairs to easily access the upper level if necessary. Joe was a great host, very attentive and responsive. Double thumbs up!

Sweet Space
My dog and I had a restful time. Most of the cabin is one level which made it much easier on my old guy. The tv projection system was a pleasant surprise. We’ll be back.

This was a great place to stay! Lots of great hikes and outdoor stuff to do in the area. The Cabin was perfect for our family and dogs. Joe was extremely helpful and very responsive, he gave us many recommendations on what to do in the surrounding area. It's nice to find a place that is great for the kids and allows dogs! Thanks Joe, we had a great time.

Cozy Cabin
Absolutely enjoyed our Weekend in this lovely cozy cabin. The Great Room was open and had plenty of space for everyone. The kitchen had everything we needed. Joe was available for anything we needed at anytime. He sent us trails and things to do since we weren’t familiar with the area. The trail walking distance from the cabin was very peaceful & beautiful. The kids loved playing in the snow & exploring the town. Definitely staying here again!

Wonderful, restful retreat in a GORGEOUS location
My family of four loved our long weekend in this cabin! The cabin itself is great, with lots of space and a cozy interior. We spent a ton of time playing games in front of the fire and watching family movies on the really great projector set-up. My daughter loved the upstairs kids room(s) with a fun reading nook. You can walk to lots of hiking spots, though we didn't end up doing much because we were digging the cabin vibe so much. Did make it down to a great view of the Yuba (10 min walk) a few times and explored the neighborhood. Thank you Joe & family!!

Nice cabin, great location, avoid snow storms.
I rented this cabin for after Christmas hoping for a bit of snow and I got my wish. While we were there a very unusual storm dropped about two and a half feet of it. First, the property: The cabin is nice with large windows and a spacious great room with a large dinning table. There is plenty of room to stretch out, do a puzzle, play twister or find a nook and read a book. The kitchen was well equipped with most of the usual items you would need to make a meal and a nice cup of coffee. There is a washer and dryer onsite which was nice for handling snow drenched items, and there was plenty of wood for the wood burning stove. The master bedroom is on the ground floor next to the kitchen. Note that there is only one bathroom in the cabin, so larger groups would have to stagger their showers accordingly. We had no issue there. Upstairs has a twin bed with a twin trundle bed in their own nook and a queen sized bed on the opposite side of the house. There is no door between these bed areas nor between the upstairs and downstairs. This was not an issue for us but bear it in mind if you have noisy guests with you. There is also a desk upstairs if you wanted to do some work. There is no cell service there but phones will work over the internet. The one thing I would say here is that the spiral stairs are rather narrow. My father, who is not a small man, never went upstairs due to how narrow they were. I would warn anyone who has a mobile impairment or who has very wide shoulders that the stairs could be challenging. The neighborhood: The cabin is in a very quite neighborhood. The neighbor that we did meet was very friendly and helpful. The management: The owners were very communicative and helpful, answering texts, helping us keep an eye on the storm, and working hard to make sure our stay was a good one. The storm: The drive up there took twice as long as we expected. Once the storm caught up with us we had to slow down significantly. Overnight the power went down for three entire counties due to the crazy snow fall. Despite that we were able to have a good time (sans showers since the hot water heater is electric) using the wood stove to heat the cabin and cooking on a stove that we brought with us since the cabin stove was electric. Overall: It is a very nice cabin in a nice location. Would I go back? In a heartbeat. I would avoid snow storms however, unless you are very prepared.

Cozy cabin in the woods, perfect for relaxing
We stayed here over New Year's Eve and had so much fun. There is plenty of places nearby for snow fun and the cabin is the perfect place to come back and warm up in. There are games, a fully stocked kitchen and plenty of space for sleeping and hanging out. The mudroom with washer and dryer made coming in from the snow easier. We would definitely stay here again!
