The house was beautiful and well stocked, easy walking distance to the village, far enough away for privacy. The owners, maintenance guy, and housekeeper were easy to reach. Unfortunately, there was a winter storm the night before our arrival and the pipes froze. Hank was on the spot immediately to insulate exposed pipes and put heaters down, but we spent the first 24 hours with no running water. The next day, he ran a water hose from the neighboring cabin so we could fill a bucket to haul in water to flush toilets and wash dishes. At this point, we expressed our concerns more deeply, as we were the only house with frozen pipes, seems something more needed to be done. On the third day, the water company came in, Hank rearranged the heaters more toward the main water source and by that evening, we had water! Pam did offer use of facilities in the neighboring cabin on this day, but by then, we had the water bucket routine down and went to Split Rock Pools to shower. Perhaps this could have been avoided with proper insulation and preparation for guest arrival, who knows, but we made it through it with a good sense of adventure! We’ve come up to Snowshoe every year for 20 years and this was a first! Overall, we had a magical family Christmas, made an awesome Snowman and enjoyed the fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom. All that being said, I would recommend Hutch 10, just be prepared and keep a good sense of adventure if arriving after a winter storm!
