Upon arrival to our room we noticed a wet patch between the two beds, that when we tried to clean it up, turned out to be a yellow liquid that smelt very strongly of urine. A disgusting situation as both my daughter and I had touched it when first determing if it was wet or an old strain. At that point we quickly rang up reception and they said they would send someone up immediately to provide us with new room keys. It then took at least 45 minutes for that person to arrive while we waited out in the hallway (it was too disgusting to wait in the room). That person gave us a new room key and promised they would contact us the next morning about the situation. They never did contact me during our stay. So there was no proper formal apology or explanation. While it must have been a previous guest that did it, the cleaners should have noticed it, and certainly there is no excuse for management to not have contacted us like they promised to. Extremely disappointing.

This is right by central station so it was incredibly easy and convenient to use the trains to access the rest of Sydney. The hotel is vibrant. Everyone was kind and quickly helped as needed. It was very quiet in our rooms so we had no problem sleeping when our time zones were still off from traveling.

It was quite dusty in corners, around the windows and on ledges. There wasn't much of a view from the window either which was facing the back alley. But the hotel's location is really good which was why we chose them to begin with. Staff were all friendly, helpful and cordial when we interacted with them.

The property is dated. My family and I were greeted by drain flies everywhere in the room. They were on the “cleaned” towels (which were not clean anymore), mirror, bed, flying everywhere. The shower room has mould everywhere. Room Carpet is dirty like it was never vacuum for years. Corridor carpet has visible dirt, dust and desperately needing a makeover. We used a mug in the room to take a effervescent tablet but staff just wipe with cloth and put back on the tray as a new mug. We discovered it as there were leftover tablet undissolved in the mug. That makes me wonder if all the mugs are washed properly. Overall, I was not comfortable at all with my 4 days stay. Mercure’s name is tarnished.
