Smelt damp as soon as soon as we walked in, water dripping from the ceiling in the walk way, fire doors being held open by fire extinguisher and side doors open all night which meant anyone could of walked in

The entrance and corridors where disgusting. Buckets catching water leaking from the celings, Corridors hadnt seen a hoover in a while. The entrance had cig ends and rubbish everywhere. Mould in the corridor on the wall and paint had fallen off, carpets stained. The room was comfy and ok, bathroom celing around the shower head was mouldy. Such a shame as it could be lovely if looked after properly. The dining area in ragland service station also had a bucket catching a leak from the ceiling. Someone should inspect the raglan lodge as celing tiles missing in corridors. Not sure how safe it is.

First impressions, carpets in lobby and hallways absolutely filthy, covered in crumbs, mud and dirt. Access my room, 2100hrs window wide open, room very cold. It was obviously open as you could still smell the cigarette smoke from whoever stayed previously. Closed the window and stuck the radiator on but the radiator let off a really bad smell, one positive is it did heat up the room quickly?? TV signal scrambled on every channel. Toilet not affixed to the floor properly. Bed itself ok, mattress not great but, would have slept better if room wasn't freezing. Chose cold room over stinking radiator warm room. If like to point out I've stayed here previously probably over a year ago and had no issues. Sadly it's gone down hill quickly on a number of levels. Definitely would NOT stay again

Bad smelling lodge. Room had window left open so very cold. Mould on bathroom ceiling. Bath plug with combined overflow and plug remover broken. We filled the bath but it was very difficult to get the plug out. We had to walk over to the service station to get our room key as no service on site, not good when you are disabled. Based on price I would rather stay in a Travelodge. TV good, hot water good. Everything else poor.

This hotel should be shut down. It very dirty, and smelly and got dump and mould every were. They have water leaking from the roof inside the building.

Nice room. Huge tv. Comfortable bed but pillows a bit lumpy. Check in was a bit inconvenient in the shop but not a problem really p. Key card was a bit temperamental on the outer doors but worked after a few tries.

Not the cleanest place, bottom sheet didn’t fit the bed. Staff were very nice and helpful but we won’t be going back. Worst was using WiFi, we were hacked and they got into all our accounts. Changed the passwords and email address so we couldn’t access anything.

Staff were friendly and room was a good size. Mattress was dreadful, really lumpy and uncomfortable. Fire alarm went off one evening and no one came. I went to get a staff member from the petrol station who said it was a regular occurrence.

There was a huge stain on the carpet and a strong smell of damp. It looked like there had previously been a flood from the ensuit bathroom. Both temperature control buttons on the heater were missing so no way to adjust the room temperature. Only 3 TV channels. No kettle in the room on arrival although the staff did respond quickly when I requested one. It is very cheap which is why I booked it but I’m not sure I’d stay there again. Maybe other rooms are in better condition?

Will stay again!
Only had a single night, but the value for money is excellent. The rooms are functional with a decent shower, coffee and tea (and biscuits!). The location has ample parking and very helpful staff at the services to check in 24 hours a day. It's a shame all the food outlets stop serving early, but Monmouth is close with a chippy, takeaways and pubs. Will stay again.

Decline in standards of Raglan lodge
Have stayed at raglan lodge for years, it used to be such a lovely clean place to stay, over the years we have noticed a decline in cleanliness, accessibility security. This time arrived at Lodge all entry doors were open no need to use key to gain access, door lock was taped over so was able to just pull door open, fire exit doors were propped open with fire extinguisher all night, fire extinguisher was tipped over on its side. On entering room cobwebs on walls, carpet dirty and bathroom floor black and dirty around edges and bath. Telephoned listed number for supplies to room , didn't hear anything back after leaving message. Word of mouth in local town suggests Raglan Lodge used as half way house , though didn't see any evidence of this but fact Lodge used to be really secure and felt really safe especially with and for children staying now makes you feel uneasy knowing it's accessible to anybody without any card key for entry. Very disappointed in stay, standards have really dropped, notice on door seems to imply Asda now owns garage and lodge. Hope they will take on board reviews and improve all services and regain to a high standard
