A little gem of a house
We loved our stay with Heidi, the house is beautiful and very comfortable and Heidi and her family were amazing hosts. We were able to feed horses and cook on an outdoor stove. Definitely coming back.

House was everything we required. Check-in was great. The house was open and warm on arrival. Heidi and Derrick were the most amazing hosts. He even went out of his way to talk and take husband for a ride. They even gave us some fresh eggs. Thankyou very much.

Character plus serenity
Gorgeous country location, not far from the township, I was only there one night, would have loved to stay longer. Quirky character everywhere in the cottage, memorabilia and nostalgia galore, immaculately clean, and super comfortable. Kitchenette is small but efficient. Stunning view from the shower over peaceful farmland. Heidi and Derek really helpful and communicative. Cottage a little way from the house, so private, but not isolated. This property didnt seem to come up on many searches so lucky if you found it!

Great little cottage in a beautiful setting
The location was ideal for where we needed to be while in Southland. Being outside the main centre of Invercargill and in a rural setting was great. No road noise, no light pollution, and very peaceful. Weather was good too. The property owners were very helpful and friendly too - including the dog :)

Farm Stay
This is a nice cabin situated on a country property just a short distance out of Gore. Derek and Heidi live in the house nearby and were available on our arrival and during our stay. Both impressed us as very nice people who made us welcome. Derek even took us to his favorite (secret) fishing spot. We found the beds very comfortable and the unit had the usual pots, pans, cutlery, etc. It features 2 double beds; one downstairs and the other up a ladder in the loft. A small, outside BBQ is available for cooking together with a microwave inside. There is no stove or oven.

Rural getaway close to town
The Rustic retreat is a compact and ingeniously designed bach like residence. Heidi and Derek are friendly and helpful hosts and made sure we didn't want for anything. The setting is very peaceful with a north facing verandah surrounded by beautiful trees and an abundance of bird life flowers and bumble bees. Very relaxing stay and will miss a quiet beer in the early evenings enjoying the sunshine. Highly recommended particularly if you want to bring your dog with you.

We booked on the spur of the moment having googled B and B’s ‘ with charm’. It was charming.
We liked the rustic nature of the building and the fact that it had been recycled from the old house. Brief, but enjoyable interactions with the hosts.

Love place, lovely people
A perfect get away, lovely private batch in the country, but with place like Gore and Invercargill nearby. The hosts were welcoming and helpful, the fact that we could bring our two dogs was fantastic, also lovely to meet Tink, the residents dog. All up a fantastic experience and would come back any time.

This is a fantastic place to stay. I had a lot of questions beforehand and was a bit nervous travelling with trailer and dogs but Heidi answered all my questions patiently and the place is just amazing. Lots of outdoor space too! Can definitely recommend it to everyone !

Lovely surroundings. Lots of trees and birds singing. Host and hostess very friendly and helpful. Beds comfortable, all welcoming. My one small niggle was that was no room to unpack and settle in, as floor space was very limited.

Quiet and peaceful.
It was a lovely small well fitted out place. It had all the necessary amenities. It was quaint and rustic. All you could hear were the birds singing. It was well situated to spend a day exploring TeAnau, Invercargill and walks up the Dolomore Park with amazing veiws. The were really helpful, nice and friendly.

Character cottage in a wonderful location
It's a little tight on space but everything is there. Derek and Heidi are great hosts and generous with advice on the attractions of the area, which are many, and good places to eat. We really enjoyed our two night stay.

Loved the fact that it was in the country and was a 2 bedroom cottage had everything, fully self contained and only 5 minutes drive to amenities, the owners were amazing , made you feel really at home , would definitely be back !

We enjoyed our stay in hawk hut. A carefully crafted building with attention to detail. Many unique features in the hut. Comfortable and warm with everything you need. Derek was very friendly and offered excellent advice regarding fishing possibilities. Very serene and quiet local in a lovely rural setting but still close to town.

Perfect in every way
WOW! What a gorgeous little cottage in a gorgeous setting. Everything we needed was provided, the bed was so comfortable and my little dog was allowed to stay too! The hosts are so welcoming, kind and considerate, the memorabilia was interesting to look at and I appreciated all the little thoughtful touches throughout the cottage (including the water bowl by the dog house!). Highly recommend, especially if looking for pet friendly accommodation. We had some great walks around the property and wines on the porch while the sun went down. Bliss!

I never got to meet Heidi or Derek because if the vagaries of my travel but their communication was first rate and the property was as described and quite quirky with a lot of individual touches. And, a most comfortable bed. Highly recommended.

Great stay at Hawk Hut
Rustic charm in this warm and compact Hut. Hosts were very friendly with helpful information of local fishing areas. Comfy beds and all we needed was provided for our stay. Shower needed a few tweeks but once sorted was lovely. We took our 2 dogs and a handy kennel was provided with tethering. Lovely setting for them to run around and sitting on the verandah in the peace and quiet with just bird song for company was idyllic. Would return and recommend for others

Enjoyed our stay.. Loved the tasteful decor Derek went the extra mile to show us / tell us about things we were interested in. Very cosy. Easter eggs left for us as well as other kind provisions.
