Gorgeous spot with a spectacular view. Some noise from the road. Well-maintained grounds with amenities like a fire pit, deck/loungers and pool (not heated but still nice). Towels provided at poolside. Lovely hand soap and body wash. The in-room beverage amenities were very lacking: no tea, almost empty container of sugar/sweeteners with one lone powdered creamer, no utensils or stir sticks for the coffee. If you're going to provide a kettle and hot drinks, I expect better. Comfortable towels and linens, but one of the washcloths was stained with brown spots and there was only one hand towel. The check-in process was clunky and not transparent. In the morning, I got a text telling me check-in time was 3pm and asking me to tell them if I would be arriving late. (It was not clear if I needed to arrive at precisely 3pm, not a reasonable expectation for many guests, I imagine). I responded that I would be arriving late and received no reply. When I arrived, I had to text again to get instructions how to access my room. Given the rural location and spotty cellphone coverage (it took several minutes for the messages to go through), this is a hassle and confusion that could easily have been avoided by sending the info earlier. I would also have appreciated an explanation that the facility is essentially unstaffed. On my last day there was nobody around and the fire pit was shut off. Knowing what I know now (and at non-eclipse prices), I would likely return to The Bygone.

Water was shut off everyday during my stay and I was unable to shower or flush the toilet. I feel they property owner purposely shut off water to save money. I do not recommend staying here

Beware they charge your credit card in advance!
I had a reservation for two nights for Thanksgiving to visit my grandchildren. Two days before Thanksgiving I ended up in the emergency room with a serious medical condition and was advised I could not drive. I called to cancel the reservation and they had already charged my credit card for two nights and refused to provide a refund, partial or complete. The owner called me and said he would reach out to me after Thanksgiving to work something out but I have not heard from him.

Relaxing Country Retreat close to Wimberley
Loved our night at The Bygone. Comfortable, clean, quiet, and the Managers were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a nice nature walk below the property and our morning coffee by the lovely clean pool. We will return soon.

The owner was very kind and the walking trail around the property was a great touch. You can tell that there were some good intentions out into the renovation but they haven’t been completely realized yet. It was very obvious that the property is still being worked on, which we didn’t know. One of the biggest draws to booking was the pool, but the entire time we were trying to enjoy it literal heavy machinery was being used right next to the day beds. The sound unfortunately ruined the experience. The rooms were okay, sadly the beds were “squishy” then plush. Overall, I think when all the work is complete it will be a good option if you’re in the area.

We love it here and it is now my first choice in the area. Very clean. Control for thermostat. A lot of channels. Smart tv with Netflix, Hulu and etc. The view was beautiful.

Great place. Highly recommend. They only have soft beds so if you are in need of a very firm bed as we like this will be a little squishy for you. But still a great, quiet place with fantastic views and a nice clean pool. Bonus: the AC wasn't too loud like at other places and worked perfectly!

I wanted this hotel to be great and ignored the reviews. However, there are some basic areas that need to be improved before I’d ever consider returning. Shower - no place to put soap, shampoo, conditioner, razor. This is pretty straightforward. Get shower caddies installed. Coffee - there is a hot water kettle, cups and little bags of coffee that make semi brown water. Please put something usable or provide coffee in a common area. Towel and trash should be serviced daily without having to ask. The beds are comfortable only if you are directly in the middle. Otherwise you feel as if you will roll out. The Bygone is really aesthetically pleasing and has so much potential. Management should listen to the reviews and make this a comfortable place to stay.

Adorable property and we loved it overall. We were a little disappointed that there are ZERO public transportation options into town. It’s about 3 miles so on a girl trip one of us would have to drive (not much cocktail fun for someone to be responsible).

Pros: Aesthetics of room, view from pool deck, ease of check-in, instant hot water in shower, mini-fridge, sweet lodge kitty hanging around property Cons: tv only showed in red despite adjusting settings, bed loud and uncomfortable, no place to sit other than bed, no iron, no shelving in shower so had to place everything on floor, shower does not have a complete door/barrier to prevent water from getting outside of it
