It looked like a good place from the outside. What the web site didn't say was that early April was still "off season", therefore they were not officially open and therefore no breakfast. The room they gave us was extremely small for 3 people and 3 suitcases, it was probably meant for only one bed. We thought we'd give a non-chain motel a chance, but for the same money we could have had more space and a breakfast. The location is great, close to downtown but spacious grounds with water across the street for a nice walk. They do have other rooms than a basic motel room, but no notice that it was winter, and therefore no breakfast. They might offer a voucher for a discount on a breakfast elsewhere in the winter.

Good location. Basic property. Off season there is no staff on site and we had thought breakfast was included but apparently not off season. That said the old property is charming. Phone was answered promptly for check in. Just left a message on check out.

Tropical storm canceled our ferry back to Maine and with 2 days notice and a storm bearing down they would not refund any of our room charge. Very disappointing and will NOT think about staying here when we return.

Poor communication
The hotel itself was ok, although the one room had a bathroom that was very small with a tub that should be replaced. Our biggest problem was with the communication. We checked in and needed to leave right away in order to get to a restaurant before it closed. The lady in the office was very pleasant. However, until we returned, the office was closed and we discovered that we were given the wrong keys. After trying to get into another guests room, we returned to the office and found a note of apology on the counter with the correct keys. Maybe I should have seen this, but after a long travel day and everything I needed to bring in, I didn’t notice this. Another frustration had to do with breakfast. When we checked in, the person at the desk said we needed to let them know the time we wanted to eat. Because we were rushing to dinner, I didn’t have a chance to tell them, so we called the office. We were connected to another facility and told that there was no way to talk to someone at our B&B via phone, only in person. Then, we saw a sign on the counter that said that a hot breakfast had a cost of $15. We didn’t realize that the sign was meant for the hotel guests, not the B&B. Since the hotel was closed, the sign shouldn’t have be there. When we questioned an employee, we got a short comment about the breakfast being the “B” in B&B. Not appreciated. They did get us food for a continental style breakfast. Our stay was ok, but proper communication could improve things a lot!

Are you going to the ferry? This is a great non-name brand option. It has the one-off feel of travel that isn’t mass produced.

We enjoyed the unique rooms in the bed and breakfast area. The room was comfortable and the staff was very accommodating with our late arrival. The breakfast was excellent. It would be nice to have a hair dryer available in the room and an easier way to turn on the overhead fan.

The hotel was convenient for access to town. The rooms were adequate but a bit small. The continental breakfast was minimal. Overall, a reasonably priced motel; good for a one night stay when just getting off the ferry before moving on.

The bathroom was very clean. However, the room had a persistent musty mildew-like odor that was very unnerving. Combined with its dated appearance, this was a disappointing stay.

This property was a little gem in a town that was not vibrant. We stayed in B&B portion…it is also a standard motel. Room was nice. They served a very nice breakfast. Staff was helpful and friendly

This was my first experience with a B&B, so my romantic notions may have gotten in the way. Also, through no fault of the facility, we were running late in arriving. By the time we checked in, the restaurants were closed. So our first meal in Canada was at Johnny Patches' Bar and Grill - whose kitchen was also closed, so we had a beer and a bag of potato chips. (It was a very nice place with good people.) The special hot breakfast was two scrambled eggs, several slices of bacon, toast and a bowl of fresh and canned fruits. Both days. It was very close to the ferry dock and well positioned for going out to shop and sightsee. Very hospitable staff. Interesting art throughout and a purple dresser on the patio with flower pots in the opened drawers.
