Half Round- A Quiet Mid-Century Modern Cabin

Unique mid-century modern "Half Round" cabin in the woods. Located in the iconic Coolfont Mountainside which consists of contemporary cabins on nearly 400 acres, and was founded as an amazing retreating community in 1969. Half Round has 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. The open dining-living room area has soaring ceilings, 360-view fireplace and walls of glass looking out to the deck and woods beyond. The house is one level with ramp access to the front door and wrap-around deck, with seating and gas BBQ grill. The community in-ground heated pool and hot tub is open Memorial Day through Labor Day. (Year round indoor pool and hot tub available at nearby Coolfont Resort for $8pp/day.) Other community features include on-site hiking trails, tennis and basketball courts, rec field and tot-lot. The Berkeley Springs area of West Virginia is less than a two-hour drive from major metropolitan areas such as Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland. It is best known for its warm mineral springs and is famous for being the country’s first ‘spa’, frequented by Native Americans long before the first European settlers appeared. This part of West Virginia is rich in history and natural beauty, and draws thousands of visitors each year. Get ready to relax and make memories for a lifetime in this beautiful and cozy mid-century cabin.

Rustic cabin in the woods.
Comfortable and quiet cabin in a wooded area just outside of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. Very well equipped with coffee, hot chocolate, and all of the things necessary to cook and serve in the cabin. Beautiful area but cabin can be difficult to find the first time. GPS got us to the general area but it required trial and error to find the cabin. Written info from the owner was very accurate and helped us find the cabin the first time.

Lovely cabin in Berkeley Springs close to everything
This cabin is well-located about ten minutes from downtown Berkeley Springs and 15 minutes or so from Cacapon State Park. The deck is lovely and the yurt portion of the cabin has a fun and funky design. The kitchen is well stocked and the two beds we used (including the king bed) were super comfortable. The hosts were super communicative and it was quiet and secluded. My one caveat is that the lighting is rather dim in all the rooms--too dim in the main area, we felt, as well as the master bedroom. Otherwise, it's a wonderful place and we hope to go back at some point!

We really enjoyed our weekend stay at this little house! It was a bit hard to find TBH (a map would be helpful). Very clean, kitchen was well stocked, appreciated coffee pot/Keurig. Heat and hot water worked really well (was chilly out!) and we loved the wood stove, comfortable beds. Would have enjoyed 2 comfortable chairs in the living area - with 4 adults and 2 teens we had to use dining chairs (not very cozy) to sit together.

Fall Getaway
We enjoyed the beautiful fall foliage in this quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck in the late afternoon and having a fire in the fireplace in the evening. The location was perfect for what we wanted to do--visit Berkeley Springs and take short hikes. The house's mid-century style is quite unique and kind of quirky. Our party agreed that it might be time to upgrade a few things, such as the main area carpeting and the lighting in the kitchen.

Great location! Nice neighborhood in the woods. Decent house for the cost. A little outdated and not set up at all for children. No gates on the deck(3 exits), fireplace inside has access all around it with loose stones for toddlers to play with. Protruding wood bed frames with sharp edges that stick out 3".

Quiet wooded midcentury getaway
Nice quiet getaway in the woods. The hosts communicated clearly ahead of time and ensured we were all set, property access/rules/etc were simple, and we enjoyed the midcentury design, working fireplace, large deck, and pet friendliness! With the midcentury space, just plan ahead a bit to make sure you have kitchen items you need, and know that the period style lighting & surrounding trees means it can be a little dark in the living area. Good location in a quiet neighborhood near beautiful state parks for hiking, sports, and more.

We loved staying at Half Round with our dog! The property is well taken care of and is in a great neighborhood with lots of other cabins. Everything you could need for a stay is already there which made it so convenient! The keurig was a great touch and there was even tea!

A slice of heaven tucked away in the rolling Hills of WV
What an amazing place for a relaxing stay. The property is extremely well-maintained, the half round designed provides panoramic views of the wildlife and surrounding area. We only had two couples with us for this stay, but there was plenty of room for three couples. The kitchen provides everything you need for making home cooked meals. There are several restaurants within 2 miles that provide great meals morning, noon or night. Location is ideal for relaxing and getting your batteries recharged. Highly recommend it we will definitely be back.

A Blissful Retreat Under the Trees
I had a wonderful stay at this “little cabin in the woods.” The mid-century modern decor was inviting, and the windows across the back of the home were exactly what I wanted in a view. I stayed for two weeks and will return! The town of Berkeley Springs was welcoming; and I enjoyed shopping at the charming antique stores and fabulous art galleries in town. That said, my favorite spot was at the cabin—on the back deck—sitting under the trees watching the deer and woodpeckers.

My two friends and I had an absolutely awesome visit to the Halfround. It’s beautiful inside and out and also very cute! It was perfect for a couple of nights away and some spa appointments in town. It was very easy to communicate with our host. The driving directions and the process for checking and checking out were clear with no problems. We enjoyed the lovely deck with comfy chairs. The property and woods around the Halfround were beautiful and serene. Mostly quiet except for all the woodpeckers and other happy birds. My one friend is an avid birder and she was thoroughly enjoying the bird chatter while telling us what we were hearing. We didn’t make it to the community pool because of t-storms and other plans but maybe next time. We sincerely plan to visit again soon.
