Paradise in the Dordogne
We spent a lovely week in this beautiful historic property. From the terrace amazing views surrounded by nature .The magical sound of the scop owl and saw deer grazing in the field. Pool just the right temperature despite the unseasonably cool weather. Boulangerie was walking distance from the property lovely bread and patisserie daily. Downstairs bathroom really is room with a view got to be seen to be believed! Plenty to do in surrounding area whatever the weather, picturesque villages spoilt for choice. If interested in archaeology very informative tour at Cap Blanc rock shelter. I would recommend this petite chateau for a very memorable stay.

Beautiful location and perfect for 3 couples who like to travel together. There is a good boulangerie within a short walk and a fish and chips truck that was excellent that is set up once a week near there. The house has great outdoor spaces, but the weather did not cooperate for us to use the pool(which appears to be very nice). The house is in a lovely rural area but is an easy drive to Sarlat and other places of interest. The owner was great to deal with and we had no problems. We would strongly recommend staying here!

An enchanted September at Maison Grise...
marred by the absence of A/C. Méteo-France marked September the hottest since measurements began in 1900. I booked the house last September with family and friends for the entire month and the A/C was listed among its facilities/equipment. It is still to this day. Due to the high temperatures, the three upstairs bedrooms turned into veritable furnaces, and the downstairs area, which tended to be somewhat cooler, did not provide much relief either. To spare future renters the disappointment, I recommend to those who plan to visit the ‘petit château’ during the summer months, to first verify with the owner to ascertain that, in the meantime, an A/C system has been installed or book the house during the cooler months because a holiday in Maison Grise is truly a wonderful and unique experience with its shabby chic furniture and décor, magnificent view and lovely gardens and pool, and its exceptional location for touring a region that boasts of splendid castles and gardens, and fine cuisine. Kudos to the house managers, who are friendly and efficient. On a final note, during the first 2 weeks of September, the huge fig tree opposite the entrance to the house and the front verandah was bursting with ripe fruit and, therefore, attracted armies of wasps. They became a nuisance and could present danger to those allergic to stings.

Incredible home and incredible property in a lovely area. We walked for fresh bread and croissants every morning, explored the region and then refreshed in the pool and listened to the frogs in the pond every evening. The home has such incredible history and we spent the entire week exploring the Dordogne and Vezere river valleys, gardens and castles and falling in love with the medieval town of Sarlat. We hope to come back again soon.

Wonderful week in Dordogne Region
My group of 4 really enjoyed staying in this Petit Chateau in early July. It was perfect as we visited the surrounding areas during the day and were able to cool off in the pool every evening. Charles and Anne were lovely hosts, and answered all our questions promptly. I wished we could had another week!

Exceeded our expectations!
We were very excited to stay here and our family had already nicknamed it the petit chateau! The house did not disappoint but rather exceeded our expectations. The communication with the owner was very easy and cordial. Having the rooftop to enjoy the view and watch the balloons in the evenings was very special and the kids really enjoyed it. The pool was a lovely temperature and in easy proximity to the house. There is no air conditioning in the house, which is to be expected for a building of this era but what is a nice surprise is you can leave the bedroom windows open most evenings without insects flying in and the interior cools off nicely. We met the property managers upon departure who were also great to deal with. My only suggestion would be a plush topper for the mattress and a larger pedestal fan in the Master bedroom but these are relatively minor observations. All in all and really enjoyable and successful stay… thank you Charles and Anne!

This is a wonderful property in a wonderful location. We really enjoyed our stay here. The only problem we had was that I was not able to access the key from the device they had set up when we checked in. When the property managers came to check us out, they had no problem with it so it was my unfortunate inability to figure it out. Luckily there was a back door open and we were able to get in. The only other thing to note is that sometimes the birds made a great deal of noise at night. Otherwise, we really enjoyed staying here and exploring Sarlat and the surrounding area. All very beautiful with many castles and beautiful scenery to enjoy.

Unanimous five stars from three generations
This house is quite unusual, with its spiral staircase up the tower to an amazing view over the Dordogne valley. It's comfortable, well equipped and family-friendly. We particularly liked the fact that upstairs is carpeted, while the thick walls and tiled floors downstairs meant it was always cool inside. It isn't isolated, with a small school and public tennis courts opposite, but it is secluded and at night the only sound was croaking frogs. Apart from swimming in the lovely pool, there's lots to do in the area for all ages (ours ranged from 4 to 70+) - we would love to go back.

A great stay.
We were two families with four older children. Loads of room for everyone and a great location. Would definitely recommend this beautiful property with wonderful views of the local area and hot air balloons in the early mornings. The pool was great to cool off in and loads of different outdoor tables to eat al fresco. Plenty of fridge and freezer space for the larger family.

Beautiful property, great pool
The property is well-located in a small village near Sarlat, just a short drive to many attractions and a 10 min walk to a bakery, which I went to every morning to get croissants for breakfast. The property has a lot of character and great outdoor spaces. The best part was the pool which we really enjoyed during the heat wave we had. The owners were very responsive to any questions.

Amazing stay
Where to start? The amazing view? The huge pool? The turret to watch the sunset and hot air balloons from? The bathroom for every bedroom? Falling to sleep with the sounds of sheep and frogs? This house is amazing. It was also clean, which we have found other “old houses” not to be in the past. The location is great as well. Note that the pool is not heated, so at the end of June it was still slightly chilly, but still warm enough to enjoy. There is no AC, but due to the thick walls of the house it never got too hot inside. Would rent again in a heartbeat.

Wow! what a place.
Wow! you keep pinching yourself when you wake up and walk around the gite, check in on the frogs each day and stop to take in the view. The accommodation is excellent in a fully restored and modernised home, with many dining settings and superb pool relaxing area. Being situated just outside Sarlat gives access to everything you need and base to explore the Dordogne. We loved our stay. Thank you Charles and Anne.

An absolute gem of a property in a beautiful location
The property is better than the pictures and description implies - some amazing views from the tower and generally such a special place for enjoying a slower and quieter pace of life! There’s a space for every occasion and so many lovely quiet spots to just escape. We were very lucky with the weather, especially for the area in mid-October, but the property was absolutely brilliant. Hope to return next year!

Can’t ask for a better home base to explore Dordogne!
Charles and Ann’s home was a true treat to rent. It was the perfect base to explore the region. And after a busy day of visiting this incredible area, we were always thrilled to come back to the house to enjoy wine on the tower terrace. The owners were very responsive and the home is simply lovely. We will definitely be back!

A property and location that exceed expectations
The photos don't do the house, garden and view justice. This is an incredible property with innumerable quirks and gorgeous nooks and crannies. Highlights include: the roof terrace; the view from the master bedroom and it's phenomenal bathroom; the pond with its community of frogs and fishes; the pool area; the plethora of choice for places to sit outside and enjoy a drink or eat a meal. My daughter got great pleasure out of seeing sheep from the nearby farm come up towards the edge of the garden, and out of spotting the hot air balloons on the horizon. The location is also excellent. The wonderful towns of Sarlat and Beynac are just a 15 min drive away, and so many of the region's best attractions are very close by. When we wanted to find a pony ride for my daughter at short notice we realised there are scores of equestrian centres within a half hour drive! The owners are very discreet but helpful and approachable. Everything went very smoothly for us. The only negative I feel I should mention is the cat hair... I'm allergic to cats so I suffered a bit in the areas where there was cat hair in evidence (rugs and sofas). This is easily rectified and I'm sure the owners will do so quickly. If you want to add a bit of magic to your holiday I'd highly recommend the maison grise.

Wonderful stay
Maison Grise is an outstanding place to stay. Other reviewers have said the same and we can only agree. We came for our four week family holiday with high expectations and these were more than fulfilled. The house, the setting, the countryside and the facilities are equalled in excellence by the peace and quiet and the opportunity to relax and unwind. Charles and Ann are deeply committed to their unique property and all necessary support and a comprehensive folder of information and advice is available. A few specific recommendations from us include ‘Lo Gorissado’ restaurant - excellent food and Covid-awareness, Canoes Detente for paddling on the Dordogne - good website and smooth operation, and the sight of the hot air balloons rising from the river plain morning and evening in calm weather. Our children and grandchildren all agreed this is the place to stay, especially the pool, the frogs and the pond. It was a wonderful place to bring our family together. Thank you Charles and Ann. Wonderful place to stay with the family, photos don't do it justice!
We were fortunate enough to spend a full week at this beautiful property with friends of ours - 4 adults and 4 children. The tranquility of the surrounding area was amazing along with the views. The kids had a blast exploring the property, splashing in the pool and playing at the tennis courts (across the road). The pond was a hit although very overgrown and not anywhere as clean as the photos show. No matter, the kids loved sitting and watching the frogs! The space atop the turret was a sanctuary for our morning cup of coffee as well as our evening after-putting-the-kids-to-bed nightcap! The overall layout of the house is great, the kitchen is super functional although with 8 people there were only 8 sets of cutlery and dishes (6 bowls) so we were doing dishes it seemed non stop. The local patisserie, which is an easy walk, had the best croissants and baguettes! Beynac and Castelnaud were easily accessible by car as was Gouffre de Padirac. Sidenote: we rented bikes and rode out to Beynac, which I wouldn't recommend with younger kids (ours ranged from 3 - 8). In fact, I would rethink renting bikes in that area due to the rolling hills and changes in elevation along most routes. Overall we would return to stay at Charles and Anne's property in a heartbeat!
