An hour drive away from San Jose and merely 15 min drive from Jaco town and beach, Punta Leona Hotel & Club is a coveted destination for people seeking a perfect vacation. Golden Reef Condominium is located within the club, has its own private pool, and direct access to the renown-among-the-locals, secluded, and beautiful white sand beach called Playa Blanca. This beach is surrounded by a national wildlife reserve; therefore, you will definitely come across local wildlife such as white faced capuchin monkeys, coatimundis, toucans, and scarlet macaws. Offering not only great waves but also calm, kid-friendly waters, this beach is perfectly fitting for people of all ages.

Our condo overlooks the Pacific yet is only less than a 5 min walk away from it! It has three bedrooms, two of which are equipped with both queen and twin sized beds and the master, a king-sized. Two rooms have private bathrooms. The master room's bathroom also has a jacuzzi to use after a productive day of enjoying the beautiful surroundings. All bedrooms and the living room have a television. The kitchen is fully equipped with necessary appliances and includes a marble-top island. Furthermore, the condo has a washer/dryer unit and a central A/C system for added comfort. Last but not least, you can view sunsets right from the terrace while you enjoy a great meal or lie on the hammock and read a book.

Please note that as we are a private property within the Punta Leona Resort, we are not associated with the hotel and therefore do not provide access to the resort itself.

The views were fantastic from the balcony. The entire property was well maintained and the community pool was very enjoyable. The folks on site were very friendly and helpful. Then unit was clean and comfortable. The host was fantastic and helped us even after the stay was over.

Girls Week Away
Our week turned out to be one of the best at this location. Communication was quick and easy. There were several red flags when we arrived: broken sliding door lock, remote for LR A/C was broken, dishwasher wasn’t working and ALL were addressed within three days. We were grateful for the attention. Thank you, Lee, for being attentive and making us feel safe. We'd love to come back again.

Super accommodating, great stay!
Property is as described - wonderful, and owner is very accommodating. We had no major issues. Beach is nearby and is, as others have described down a significant hill, which can be an issue for the elderly. Be advised! If you want to see other parts of CR, consider that travel is not exactly convenient and many outings need to be pre-arranged [pricing, tickets and availability vary]. Plan accordingly. We had a lovely stay.

Beautiful beach location
My family loved this house! Playa Blanca is an amazing beach and just short 5 min walk. The street down to the beach is steep but a little exercise is always good. We saw toucans and monkeys between the house and the beach. The sand on the beach is so soft and the waves were just the right size to have fun and feel safe. We had some success catching small fish from the beach in the mornings. The beach can get crowded on weekends, so get there early to grab a great spot. The views from the balcony were great. We had an amazing Lightning show one night that we’ll never forget. The kids loved the community pool and the local iguanas that came by to eat flower petals. Jaco is about 30 minutes away and was a fun town to shop and eat. We felt safe there. Every room in the house had AC and we loved relaxing in the kitchen and family room. The kitchen supplies were limited, but we were able cook any meal we wanted. The dish washer was also broken, but we’re used to cleaning dishes on vacations so no big deal. Overall, we loved it and enjoyed our stay.

El apto muy limpio, impecable, las camas muy confortables, sábanas y toallas en buen estado al igual que la mayoría de los artículos. Por el lado de la cocina, todos los aparatos Electricos funcionan muy bien excepto el lavaplatos, recomendaría actualizar la cocina y refrigerador. El dueño del apto muy pendiente a mis mensajes !

Amazing stay!
Beautiful property in an absolutely stunning location. Finding the gated entrance was easy. Our host provided us with a code to show to the guard, and the guard gave us better directions to where we were going. From there it’s about a 15 minute drive in through oftentimes steep, narrow, and very winding cobblestone roads. The first time through was rather intimidating, especially since we arrived on a Saturday night and there was a ton of foot traffic of locals leaving the public Playa Mantas. Knowing a little Spanish helps as most of the guards spoke little or no English. The condo itself was lovely. Located on the 2nd floor. There are elevators if you’re not up for stairs. We brought my parents and our 2 young children and there was plenty of room and bathrooms for everyone. Views from the balcony were amazing! I was concerned that the balcony railing was high enough for my 1 year old to slide under, so had to watch him like a hawk while out there. Playa Blanca is a private beach controlled by the Punta Leona hotel. We were not allowed to enter using the main entrance. Rather, we had to travel about 200ft further down the road and use a secondary entrance. You can apparently purchase wristbands at the office to be able to use the hotel beach entrance/amenities. As far as we could tell, we were able to use the entire beach, but we stuck close to that entrance. The sand is soft white, and the waves were fun but gentle enough that I felt 100% safe with my 5 year old in with me. The water was very clear! We brought our own snorkeling gear and we had a blast discovering schools of colorful fish, and sea urchin on the undersea rocks. Much of our time was spent at the condo pool. Absolutely gorgeous with a slide and little cave. Views from here are also amazing. Usually empty, but anyone who did show up was very friendly. Jaco is close, and there is at least one restaurant, a small store, and ice cream shop on the gated grounds. I wouldn’t say walking distance, mostly because I wouldn’t feel safe walking on those blind curves with cars coming up. Renting a golf-cart is an option for $40-$60 a day (depends on who you get). We did use this option on beach days as we weren’t about to trek back up to super steep hill with beach gear and kids in tow. Overall an unforgettable experience! We will absolutely be back soon! Pura vida!

Roaches, window that didn’t close, billing issues
Unfortunately we do not recommend this condo. I hesitate to send a bad review because we normally don’t like to complain however we had multiple issues from billing being incorrect for months and top of the list was drain Roaches in the kitchen sink & also bathroom bugs. When we asked the host to address the roaches/bugs a woman showed up and handed us a can of raid; not the appropriate fix. No one ever came to work on the stuck open bathroom window (allowing bugs!). There was no follow up to see how things were going. Supplies are minimal (one garbage bag), and furniture is pretty beat up. Not as shown in photos. The host tried to compensate for billing issues but billed more per night than originally agreed to in original agreement. Overall a horrible experience.

Nice place for relaxing! Just everything so far away.
Nice and clean propery but a few issues, diswasher broken, fridge liquing, tv not working, a loud noise coming from outside thru the backs rooms. So anoying for the young adults. They were complining about it. Other than that so peaceful as I expected morning time. People working in the building, they are super nice people to every costumer, I wish it happen in any place we are at visitting!😉👍🏼

I have been going to Punta Leona for years so already know the beauty of the private beach community and only white sand beach of Playa Blanca. The condominium was in a perfect location walking distance from the beach. We would highly recommend the property to anyone looking for a perfect Costa Rica getaway.

Amazing beach and ocean views, bare bones condo.
This is my honest review and my personal opinion. The host is fantastic, answered all our questions, was flexible with our check out based on flight delays. Check in process is super easy. No complaints there. A couple of things that kind of bothered us though, this condo is very bare bones. What I mean is they don’t provide anything not even the basics. So in the kitchen there isn’t even coffee, salt, pepper, anything to cook with like olive oil or anything. There are pots and pans. There wasn’t even a dish towel to wipe off dishes with. No beach towels either. So If you are staying you have to go to the store and buy everything. The dishwasher was broken, no big deal, the jacuzzi tub looks like it had a hole in it that was repaired. They do provide a lot of soap in the showers though. As far as getting in, to get to the condo is a 4 mile drive off the main rd. It’s fine but every time you want to get somewhere you have to drive all the way out and back in. You don’t have access to the hotel amenities just the condo pool (which is nice) but the hotel restaurant is off limits. The one restaurant you can go to the food was not good at all. Next to that is a pops which serves Ice cream. That was good, and next to that is a convenience store which sells all the things. If you go to the main entrance and make a right the restaurant that is right there Ostra is fantastic. The beach is a short walk down a steep hill (good exercise) and is amazing. The sand is so soft and cool. Take a walk down towards the rocks and you will see crab and oysters and other wild life. Monkeys and scarlet macaws are beautiful. So that and the view from the condo make up for what it is lacking inside. Overall a good stay, would just suggest to the host to provide more of the basics even salt and pepper would be a good start. Do some updates to the condo itself and it would be a much more pleasant stay.

Lovely stay near Playa Blanca
Check-in was easy as we were promptly notified when the condo was ready on the day of our arrival at 3pm. We were provided instructions and directions to the condo via Punta Leona's front gate and had no issues getting in. The view from the condo is amazing, and we had a front row seat to the most beautiful Costa Rican afternoon storms. Playa Blanca is a short walk from the condo, but I'd recommend renting a golf cart to get around if you have trouble climbing hills, otherwise the beach is worth the climb. Enjoyed the amount of space inside the condo which made it easy to feel at home. The pool was also a nice place to relax in, and at least for us, there was rarely other people to share it with which was nice. Security was excellent, always polite, and always felt safe going in and out. The owners were very responsive, replying back almost immediately whenever we has any questions, and swift at remedying any concern we had. Overall a wonderful place to get away and just relax. Miss being there already.

Reservation canceled after arriving
We showed up at the property to find out that the owners had double booked the second night of our 2 night stay to family friends so it didn't show up online. The owners said we could stay the first night and that they would get it organized, we stayed with the driver at the gates for almost 30 minutes waiting to be let in. After 30 minutes he called back to tell us that it was too much of a hassle to get things arranged for us to even stay the first night, despite having said in the previous call that it was clean, available and ready for us. He proceeded to canceled the reservation on the spot, not seeming to care, just repeating how much of a hassle this was for him. We were unable to find alternate accommodations at the last minute.

Lovely Property
The view was amazing from the expansive deck area! The property was very nice and as advertised. Daniel was quick to communicate with me when I had questions. The pool was 2 minute walk and beach was 6-7 minute walk, so convenient to those two areas. The mistake I made was not renting a car. I did not understand how far I was from restaurants, store, whatever. To get anywhere we had to arrange for a taxi. Just be aware of that. But it was an extremely nice place and we totally enjoyed our week there.

Beautiful location - great pool for kids
Overall, we had an amazing time in Costa Rica and the rental fit our needs well. Yet, we were quite disappointed with the check in process. The condo can be very difficult to find if you don't use the WAZE app. We did not receive this instructional message before we started our travels and therefore found it very difficult to find. The onsite "security" does not speak any English and is less than helpful with finding Golden Reef. We also did not have a host meet us upon arrival and did not see "Fabiola" until 10 mins before we were about to check out. There is a phone in the condo but no instructions on how to contact the "host". I tried every combination of her "phone number" and was unsuccessful in reaching her. A lot of the lights, fans do not work well and the dehumidifier in the master did not power on. If you are looking for large rental, an ocean view, a great kids pool and you don't mind some minor annoyances, this place is for you. With those expectations I wouldn't hesitate to return, but I was expecting a more hosted experience.

Beautiful condo and location. Everything was great but very stingy on supplies. We had 3 rolls of tp for 5 people staying 6 days. One roll of paper towels, Just barely enough dishwasher soap, no plastic wrap, 4 coffee filters. We had to buy some at store. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars.

Une très belle vue du condo et à quelques minutes à pied d'une magnifique plage! Le calme et la tranquillité assurée. Par contre, des rénovations sur le site du condo très tôt tous les matins nous ont dérangés. Le condo mériterait un peu d'amour, certaines rénovations s'imposent. Prévoir minimum 15 minutes de voiture pour accéder aux restaurants ou au supermarché.

I simply loved this place! It was clean and well maintained and a great spot! At the beach which is a 5 minute walk down a hill we saw monkeys/parrots which flew overhead all day long/ sloats/coati . right off the beach was amazing snorkeling..parrotfish/triggerfish/angelfish just to name a few...AND a giant turtle..it was over 3 ft long!! I guess he is somewhat of a regular at the beach. The porch was an amazing place to hang out. Jaco was 30 minutes away. What else can you ask for?? nothing! Only downside with this place was the steep hill to climb up to get back to the condo from the beach...however there is an option for someone to pick you up with a car. As a 63 yr old woman I felt extremely safe here. Owner was extremely helpful and prompt with his replies. My recommendation ... book this place you won't be disapointed.
