The room was nothing like it showed in the brochure,had to go down 2 timesto get milk and tea bag's you couldn't swing a cat in the room, it had a tiny tv in a cupboard, I will never go back there

The hotel has a pleasant atmosphere and history. However, the room that we were allocated had a large cooling tower directly outside of the window. The noise from this prevented us from having a decent sleep. Unfortunate, given that we had a few hours drive ahead of us. We reported the problem to the desk on checking out, and was offered a cup of coffee. We declined.

This Hotel has great potential but it is run down. The carpets are damaged on the staircase, the lift is charming but not cleaned properly...dust in corners etc... Although we booked early...months ahead we got a room without a view. I asked for a change in room but did not get one. Also the lamb wasn't cooked enough during dinner. Great potential but needs TLC.

I really appreciated the historic aspects of the hotel, and the written history that was thoughtfully provided. But something that old is going to have its worn bits.

Grand Old Hotel
Absolutely beautiful grand hotel! When we arrived in our room however, there was no toilet paper, only 1 towel, no bathmat and 1 tiny soap. This was quickly rectified by Maddy when I rang reception and she was most apologetic. We ate that night in the restaurant and it was a 5 star meal only made better by Maddy who served our table. She is indeed an asset to the Hotel. We were delighted to stay there again as our last visit was 30 years ago. Furnishings are outstanding. Well recommended.

Lovely old building, lovely around the entrance area and really quiet liked the old lift. Generally the room was comfortable, clean but very small. You had everything you needed though, fridge, hairdryer and dressing gown. The only negative really that let it down was I felt a lot of the decor was tired and worn. Overall it was a lovely place to stay.

Plants all dying in courtyard from what appears to be lack of water. Very sad outlook from restaurant, mentioned to staff member who said it wasn’t his job but when we looked up from our meals buckets of water we’re being carried out ☹️☹️☹️

Period building, with historic furnishings. Stylish period decorations. Every room is different; ours was a queen with a high comfortable bed (be wary if you are not too tall!). The bathroom was en-suite, though with no door to separate it from the bedroom itself. Nice shower. There was a stocked minibar. There was a small tv- small, and of cheap quality- it seemed beneath what this 4 star hotel should have. Parking was a problem. When we arrived (at 3pm) I was told there was no space left in the hotel car and had to find somewhere in the street. I was concerned by this, as we were leaving some luggage in the car, and was not impressed that the hotel car park (which we could see from our bedroom) had spaces in it all night. Overall we would not choose to stay at Craig’s Royal again- it was not to our taste.
