Riverfront/Easy River Access/Flat Yard 3BS10

Camp Ketahe is named after the Shawnee Indian phrase "ni kitehi thiipi" which means my heart is at the river. This home is perfect for that family reunion - affordable, cozy, and perfectly houses adults and kids!

Enjoy this calm part of the river with water shallow enough for young children in parts but deep enough to go out and swim (if you venture out a little further!). Enjoy evening time fires at the fire pit down by the water (firewood is included!). This is a great, affordable option to get everyone together for a great get away.

Feedback on Our Stay During Memorial Weekend
While we appreciated the stunning location, beautiful views, and peace and quiet, we encountered several issues that significantly impacted our experience: 1. **Power Outage and Noise**: A severe storm caused a power outage, and the loud generator from the empty house next door made it impossible to sleep. Without power, we had to leave after two days due to health risks with our medications. 2. **Communication Issues**: There was no landline, and the lack of mobile signal required us to drive into town for emergencies. 3. **Kitchen Supplies**: The kitchen was poorly equipped for 10 people, with only 2 teaspoons and 2 tablespoons. Many dishes were dirty, and there was no dishwasher. 4. **Cleanliness and Maintenance**: The AC filters were clogged, so we had to turn it off and open windows. The deck was covered in pollen, and non-functioning stairs lights made it dangerous at night. Inside, there were stained bedspreads, clogged and leaking shower hardware, and chipped dishes. 5. **Emergency Kit**: The kit under the sink contained a non-working flashlight, a couple of bandages, and a disinfecting spray, which was inadequate. 6. **Internet Service**: The internet signal was essentially non-existent even when the power was on. 7. **Pet Fee**: The per pet/night fee did not provide any amenities for pets. While we enjoyed the location, the house needs significant attention and maintenance to justify its extreme price. We hope this feedback helps improve conditions for future guests

Great location
Peaceful location, right on the water. The weather was iffy, so we didn't get to use the fire pit. House was spacious enough for the four of us. If you bring a large group, there is no dishwasher. We didn't cook and ordered takeout, so it was fine, but if we were cooking for the family, that would have been a pain.

Beautiful location
The view from the porch to the backyard is amazing. It is right in the river with a beautiful hill across the river. Birds and squirrels made chatter and the sound of the river was so soothing.

Quiet retreat
Nice stay. Only negative is little to no connection available to cell service, not the houses fault, just rural.

Great cabin with easy river access.
Family loved the cabin. Well equipped with the essentials. We spent both nights around the fire pit. Easy day trip to hike angels rest on the AT. Plenty of room downstairs for the kids and ample covered porch space. The fish were elusive during the trip but we will have to return in the spring to try again!

Great family retreat on the New River
My family stayed at the New River Retreat: Camp Ketahe for Memorial Day weekend. The location was very nice, but it is very rural. Just be prepared to drive a little way for groceries and other supplies and you'll be fine. The property itself was very nice. We did have two elderly folks with us and a baby, and the spiral staircase was a bit of a concern. We used the rocking chair in the living room to block the spiral staircase for our baby, and the elderly folks had to use the outside staircase to go between floors. Also, there is no cell phone service or internet to be had at this property. Just beware of this and plan accordingly. We were concerned that we might have difficulty should we need to reach 911 for assistance. To alleviate this concern, New River Retreat informed us that there are other properties nearby with internet service. Just beware of this and make arrangements ahead of time should you need a connection to the outside world.

Beautiful Escape
We loved all that this property had to offer. You cannot beat being that close to the river and what it has to offer. House held 4 adults without issue and could maybe hold a 4th. Do not expect any contact with the outside world here, there is no cell reception and no WiFi. Gas grill was a nice discovery, I believe the listing showed charcoal. I will say that the grassy area that leads to the river is an absolute minefield when it comes to geese droppings. There was no way to walk around them as the ground was covered. Not sure what can be done here, but it was a turn off.

Perfect Location!!!
We had an amazing stay. We used this plae for all our out of town family to stay. The view was great and the house met all of our needs and exceeded our expectations. It does not have internet and the cell signal is basically non-existent but with the view, who needs electronics!!!!

Great cabin at an even better place in the river.
The river steals the show here. This is just a better part of the river than the other houses we saw. The shoals make lots of beautiful music while there is still a nice beach area and swimming hole right in front of the property. The cabin in nice but really nothing special. Could use some more comfortable mattresses but otherwise very comfy cozy.

Wonderful Christmas weekend!
Our family of 10 stayed in this beautiful cabin to celebrate Christmas together. When we arrived we found the cabin fully decorated for Christmas including a large Christmas tree with lights and trimmings, A wreath on the door and sweet decorations throughout the house. It was a lovely surprise and made our celebration even sweeter. The cabin was spotlessly clean and the kitchen well equipped. It was a cold weekend and we could have benefitted from more blankets on the beds but the heat worked well and we turned it up until we were comfortable. We appreciated the fun s’mores welcome box and consumed them around a lovely campfire near the river. The view of the river is beautiful from the home as well as the yard. We had a lovely stay!

A cool cabin in a beautiful setting!
We really enjoyed our stay and plan to come back. We had a large group that rented two cabins separated by just a few houses. Great place to get away and enjoy the river setting, but don't plan to stay to connected as the cell coverage is very spotty and there is no wi-fi on the property. We just rode up to Draper and caught up on email and phone calls. You can also catch the New River Trail in Draper which is a great hike. Nice spot!
