Can a Place We've Only Visited Twice Be a Second Home?
Eight family members stayed here in 2015, and from the moment we arrive we knew we would have to come back. COVID interrupted our plans a couple of years ago, but this year we made our return visit, staying five nights this time. There were a dozen of us this time--my wife and I, two daughters and their spouses, a total of five grandkids, and a teenage granddaughter's boyfriend. From our previous visit, we knew to not over-plan our days. We bought groceries (a decent Aldi's in nearby Kil

Oh the view!
This was the perfect location for our families trip to county Kerry. Close to the ring of Kerry, Dingle peninsula, and Kilarney. The three cottage set up was also great for multi-family accommodations. Finally, I cant say enough about the view! We would 100% stay here again.

6 Nights at Barralach
Peter said words would not do the views from the house justice, and he was right - simply stunning. We were able to access different hiking options of varying difficulty directly from the property. The house and cottages were comfortable and very well equipped. We had not realized the bedroom space in the main house was not fully enclosed as a separate room, but it was fine nonetheless. An earlier reviewer recommended renting a small SUV for the stay, and I am glad I followed that advice as the driveway up to the house is by necessity steep and also a bit rough. Restaurants, shops and water activities were 20 minutes away by car. Peter and Eliza, the housekeeper, were readily accessible by phone. The dishwasher happened to break during our stay, and Eliza quickly facilitated a replacement. All in all, a unique and lovely property to which we would gladly return.

Attractive and comfortable cottages in an outstandingly beautiful location
This was a perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary/birthday with all our family. The three cottages made ideal accommodation for ourselves, our son and daughter and their families, and we all appreciated the outstandingly beautiful views and walks from the cottages as well as the proximity to Glenbeigh and the amazing beach at Rossbeigh. The three cottages were very comfortable and the main cottage very well equipped. There was also the bonus of having Betty to cook for us on a couple of evenings. One family was rather concerned about their car’s low clearance on the final rather rough track to the cottage, but the rest of us coped well. Peter, the owner, was extremely helpful providing much useful information and answering questions immediately from the time of booking throughout our stay. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for Vrbo who provided last minute information some of which was outdated regarding electricity. Peter confirmed there is no extra charge for electricity.

Beautiful views with rustic charm
We stayed in this property as a family with eight people aged 2 months to 62 years old. First the pros: The property is in an idyllic setting with magnificent views overlooking the hills and lake, and we saw the most beautiful rainbows nearly every day. It was fun to see the sheep and lambs grazing just outside the windows. The main cottage had comfortable furnishings, and the kitchen was well stocked. The main cottage also had a nice communal space for family dinners as well as for relaxing and enjoying the view together. It was also nice to have 3 separate cottages. This worked well for our extended family. Also, Peter was very responsive and easy to work with. The cons: The cottages were somewhat musty. Several family members with mold allergies had issues with this. The lake cottage was buggy - there were water bugs on the floor and a slug in one of the beds. There were also many, many flies buzzing around in the main cottage when we first arrived. It took us a few days to finally eradicate all of them. This was likely an anomaly due to the recent long drought though. Finally, with sheep comes sheep poop. We had to step very carefully to avoid it. These negatives aside, overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Gorgeous Holiday Escape
Our family stayed at the farm for a week and it was absolutely magical. We had four adults, two kids, and a toddler with us, and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out with extra space. It is perfectly situated for adventuring around the Ring of Kerry - we were easily able to visit several of the nearby towns, all within an hours drive or less. The nearby town of Killorglin was very cute and accessible for groceries as well as some great restaurant recommendations by our host, Peter. Rossbeigh Strand, the nearby beach, was a beautiful and quiet little spot. The property itself was gorgeous and felt like being in a fairytale - three small cottages with sheep all around, and a green forest backdrop. The kitchen was fully equipped and the wood stove was lovely to sit by, even during our summer trip, while we watched the sheep just on the other side of the floor-to-ceiling windows that make up the main house. The kids loved the hike up the back hill behind the cottages that offered the most amazing views we had ever seen - a panoramic dream of mountains, the bay, lakes, and hills all captured in one quick hike. Peter was a wonderful host and was readily available whenever we needed. He was kind and friendly and had great recommendations. We would recommend staying here to anyone, and hope to be back someday.

Heaven on Earth
Barralach is a place that I thought lived only in my dreams. There are no photos or words that can fully capture the magic of the place. Nestled into hills blanketed in wildflowers lies a family of stone cottages straight out of a storybook. You will awake to views of fog-kissed hilltops and open your cottage door to find a family of friendly sheep sleeping at the threshold. After a cup of coffee by the fireplace next the window overlooking Lough Caragh, you can set out on foot to the hiking trail behind the house which leads you to one of the most breathtaking vistas I’ve ever had the pleasure to behold. That quick and easy trail feeds into a network of hiking trails that could keep you busy all week, or you can make the 5 minute drive into town for stone oven sourdough pizza or gourmet picnic provisions at Emilie’s, a cup of coffee and a goji berry brownie at UpCycle coffee cart, or a walk along beautiful Rossbeigh Beach. It was a perfect launching point for day trips to Killarney, valentia island, Kerry cliffs and more. We have deemed Barralach our “happy place” and our family’s “heaven on earth”. We hope to return year after year. Thank you Peter and family for sharing your wonderful home with us. We are so grateful.

Indescribably Magical
Barralach is an incredible retreat. The vistas surrounding the property are magical. The sheep are wonderful. We gathered three generations (with the youngest 5). The cottages are perfect for three families and one of the cottages presented an amazing gathering space. The main cottage has everything you would possibly need to host a feast and has multiple outdoor dining options. We had small compact rental cars and would recommend upgrading to easily handle the switchbacks up to the cottages, but it is not required. Cannot speak more highly of Barralach – we are dreaming of a return trip!

Wonderful visit to cottages and beautiful view
Our party of 9 had an amazing visit to these cottages. The view is awe inspiring and we were sad to leave. We were able to access a trail from the rear of the property and the main cottage had chess/games and extra wellies/raincoats for rainy days. Wi-Fi worked great. We missed meeting Peter, but we did get to meet Betty and sample one of her delicious meals.

Family retreat
These cottages are amazing. You could not ask for a more beautiful location. Our kids loved the sheep and exploring the property. The first drive up the mountain was a little scary but we got the hang of it. Peter was a wonderful host. We had an issue with the trash bins and they were fixed right away. The lake cottage had poor water pressure but that might have been because we had a large group. The cottages had everything and anything you might need. It's a 10 min drive from the lake (our favorite) and 15 min drive from the beach. Highly recommend. We hope to return one day.

Indescribable Location!
This property was just what our family needed to relax for a few days while exploring County Kerry. The beauty of the countryside view is indescribable and the company of the sweet friends outside was icing on the cake. The property is indeed "cabin-esque", but is very fitting for the property. We appreciate Ireland's focus on sustainability, however, had to take extra steps at this property to come up with our own sorting bins/bags and then find the local recycling source for disposal. While the host recommended a recycling location, it was in the opposite direction of our next stop, so we carried our trash with us for a bit. Not ideal with a car full of luggage. While there are a few things about the hamlet that could be enhanced, we would 100% stay here again!

Spectacular views and great host
Breathtaking views over Lake Caragh and the mountains. A quiet, peaceful retreat on the Kerry Way, with phenomenal walking and hiking trails on your doorstep. Excellent living, dining, and kitchen space that can suit a couple or a family. Loved watching the sheep and birds from the glassed-in nook - a great space for two to four people. Weather was too good to use the amazing looking fireplace, which was all set and ready. On our rainy day, we enjoyed the magnificent library on things Irish and beyond. Peter is an excellent host, loves the area, gave us phenomenal recommendations, and was thoughtful, communicative, and easy to work with. A special property.

AMAZING
We drove up at night (not recommended, do so in daylight!), and had no idea the views that awaited us the next morning. Just astounding, small mountains, a lake, and the Atlantic all in view. The sheep that wander the hills pass by the cottages and can be pretty entertaining. The main cottage has everything you need to feel at home, there are even extra rain boots, coats, and hats. The Kerry Way walking paths run behind the cottages. Highly recommended. We’re already planning our return trip.

This property is gorgeous. One member of our party described it as “magical” and another called it “Heaven.” No expense was spared to make it luxurious, relaxing and beautiful. It was beautifully appointed and gorgeously decorated and the art was amazing. Peadar’s hospitality and communications were prompt, detailed and the most informative I’ve ever received from a host. Our entire group plans to return and I couldn’t imagine a better place to spend a vacation. It was my favorite spot - ever!

A bit of paradise in Ireland
I was a bit concerned about how remote the cottages would be. They are removed and the last bit of the dirt road is very bumpy, but believe me, the trip is soooo worth it!!! We rented the three cottages for 8 family members ranging from 72 to 4 years old. All of us chose this place as our favorite of three while in Ireland! It was so peaceful, the views stunning, the sheep such fun for the kids and adults. Took advantage of walking a lot, games of tag and soccer on the grass, watching out for the sheep poop! Peter was so helpful ahead of our visit, sending detailed driving directions and shopping suggestions for food. We cooked breakfast there, packed lunches, and then went to restaurants for dinner. Our only inconvenience while there, for travel planning purposes for the following day, was that we couldn't get the WIFI operating and Peter was in France. On our last day, he got our SOS question and we were able to hook up. But that was our only bit of inconvenience! Overall we are very happy this is where we had our first experiences as a family in Ireland! Thank you, Peter and Betty! the Beer family from NH/USA

The HIGHLIGHT of our Entire Trip to Ireland!!!
We just returned from a week in Ireland and a short stay at the Sheep Farm. If you are considering this property, think no further - Just Book IT! While the pictures look amazing, I promise that your time at Barralach will be the highlight of your visit to Ireland. From the morning parade of sheep and coffees at sunrise, to the warm fires in the evening and wine at sunset.... it is magical and welcoming and feels like home. There is something special here and we feel blessed to have experienced it!! Peter was wonderfully responsive and Betty cooks an amazing meal that you will not want to miss. Please send our love to the sheep!! We miss them already.

Barralach Cottages 10/1 - 10/13/2018
Our stay at Barralach was AWESOME! I had read many great reviews from previous visitors and we had high expectations. We were not Disappointed. The Cottages were clean and comfortable. The Main Cottage with the kitchen, dining, laundry and living areas was well appointed with everything we could possibly need, even boots and foul weather clothing. The living area with wood stove was our place to gather after hiking or on our return from day trips. There was an extensive collection of eclectic reading materials, from Irish history and geology to maps and travel information, plus much, much more. But the scenery from the house and property was just incredible. You will have commanding views of local mountains, Dingle Peninsula and the Curragh Lake estuary. The Kerry Way hiking trail is nearby and allows for even novice hikers to enjoy the moderate trail to Glenbeigh. Last of all were the sheep that came and went at will, entertaining us with there antics. Dooks golf course is very close by and was a great challenge. We highly recommend this rental to anyone wishing to explore the splendor of Southwest Ireland.

Not sure if there is a better view in Ireland!
Peter's cottages at Baralach were the perfect fit for our family of eleven. Each couple/group had their own space with the main home providing wonderful general space for everyone to gather and eat. With that said, we were outside most of the time taking in the spectacular views - just sitting in the comfy chairs provided drinking wine and chatting. Couldn't have been better. The home was clean and well stocked to prepare meals. We used the grill a number of times. Peter couldn't have been more helpful or responsive to all of our many questions. Thanks for an amazing stay!

Outstanding property, great for groups
This remote and beautiful property was perfect for our family visit to Ireland. Although there were eleven of us spread over three buildings, we never lacked room. This is a truly unique place, high up on a hill with magnificent views and only sheep for neighbors. The main building is homey and comfortable, filled with a spacious library and interesting artifacts from the area. The kitchen and dining areas served us well with ample dishes and cookware. Any group looking for a getaway in Kerry would find it both charming and nicely located to points of interest.
