About this property

Villa with vineyards, infinity pool, views of an UNESCO castle and the alps.

WELCOME TO CASA VOLPE IN CASTAGNOLE DELLE LANZE

Nestled among the rolling hills of the beautiful Piemonte wine region, Casa della Volpe (the fox house) is a villa offering breathtaking views of the countryside and rests on a working vineyard near the Castle of Govone. This cascina has ample room for one or two families, or friends travelling together and looking for their own private paradise from which to explore the area.

The villa is light and open with large windows that provide broad, sweeping views in every direction. It has four bedrooms that can accommodate 8 guests.

ABOUT THE PLACE

The farm is situated in a peaceful, rural area, set back from the road and neighbors, providing privacy and serenity. The house offers a spectacular 270-degree panoramic view. As far as the eye can see, there are valleys and rolling hills lined with wine rows and hazelnut trees. From the main terrace, you can see the surrounding villages of Priocca, Govone and San Martino Alfiei with their characteristic hilltop castles. On a clear day you can see on clear days the Alps on the horizon from the mont Blanc mountain range.
Location
The property is off the main road but only a 5-minute drive to more traveled roadways, which give you quick access to all your site-seeing destinations. If you like privacy and nature’s solitude, you will appreciate the splendid isolation: few neighbors, minimal traffic, and only the sound of chirping birds and the occasional tractor working the vineyards.

Neighborhood (walking/bicycling distance)

The old village of Castagnole Delle Lanze is within walking distanc from the house. Castagnole was recently voted Borghi più belli d'Italia " The most beatutiful villages of Italy" In the old city you will find a beautiful park with a small tower were you can enjoy spectacular views of The Alps, or sample local wines, restaurants, and bars. Opportunity to explore the surrounding area on charming roads or paths in this hilly neighborhood abound, which is very popular for bicycle tourists. You will be living amid the vineyards, surrounded by hazelnut and fruit trees. In addition, the area is home to the best black and white truffles in the world, so in the fall you might see truffle hunters out looking for culinary gold. In fact, excellent culinary experiences are waiting for you at every turn. Castagnole is also know as the City of Wine because of its location boarding three of the most important wine regions italy has to offer Monferrato, Langhe and Roero

Weekly markets in Castagnole Delle Lance and neighboring villages offer locally grown produce and other food items for you to enjoy. Wine festivals and truffle festivals are also common.

Within 30 minutes driving

The farm is situated in between the cities of Alba, Asti and Nizza, taking aproximetly 15 minutes by car to reach. Delightful destinations such as Barbaresco, Neive, Nizza, Cannelli, Bra and Barolo are also a short drive away (15-25 minutes).
1-2 hours driving

• 1.5 hours to the Alps for downhill skiing or mountain hiking
• 1 hour south to Genova and the Italian Riviera or north to Turin
• 1.5 to Milano
• 2-3-hour drive to Nice, France

Casa Della Volpe

The farm sits on approximately 25 acres and grows lovely Barbera grapes that are harvested in September/October. This is a working vineyard so you will see farmers working in the fields. Additionally, cherry, plum, apricot, hazelnut and apple trees are abundant, accessible to guests for picking when in season.

For outdoor recreation, enjoy our beautiful infinity pool (5X11 meters), built in June 2019 with a surrounding stone deck for sunbathing, reading, napping…

The fields are also teeming with wildlife: lots of birds and occasionally dear, rabbit or fox can be seen from the porch.
The views from the house and pool are stunning. There is a spacious open terrace on the ground floor with stairs descending to the pool area. Here you can enjoy gorgeous sunsets and starry nights while relaxing in comfortable lounge chairs.
In addition to the common terrace, each of the four bedrooms on the second floor leads to a balcony where you relax as you wish.
The house is spacious, bright and airy. The main house has been newly restored with modern amenities.

First floor

The first floor has an open floor plan with a large kitchen and living area. Guests can gather at the kitchen island, create culinary magic, or relax on the sofa or daybeds. A large common dinner table in the heart of the living room accommodates 8 guests. Large windows offer dining with a view.

There is a bathroom on the first floor and an alcove with a daybed if need be.

Kitchen
The kitchen has a gas-stove, oven, microwave, a Nespresso coffee machine, and more traditional Mokka makers are also available. Lacking nothing, the kitchen includes a dishwasher, plenty of bench room, drawers and cabinets with all the necessary utensils.
2nd floor - 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms

On the second floor there are 4 large bedrooms. Each bedroom can accommodate 2 people and has its own veranda.

Rooms 2 and 3 both have a double bed and a modern bathroom. Room 2 has a large walk-in shower and room 3 has a bathtub with a shower.

Rooms 1 and 4 also have double beds that can also fold into singe beds if you like. These rooms do not have their own bathrooms but guests can use the bathroom on first floor.

Great Visit to Piedmont
My wife and I came and stayed along with two other couples for 3 nights in late September 23. Michael was extremely helpful providing us with ideas for what to do during our trip and answering any questions we had. He connected us with a local chef to do a cooking class and dinner at the house that was a great time. The house was a perfect size for our group and close to everything in the region via car. The views from the house are amazing. We had a great time and highly recommend staying here.

Villa Volpe -Sept 2023
Casa Volpe was everything we expected and more!!! The updated yet charming and rustic villa was exactly as described and a welcome retreat to relax after a day of visiting the near by towns in the Piedmont area. It honestly felt like you were far away from everything because of the vast views but just minutes from town with lots of privacy and amenities! The caretaker Diana was very helpful with restaurants, wine bars, villages and cities of interest to see. If we ever had a question she was quick to respond. The pool area was very relaxing and the outdoor bbq and patio area ambience is perfect for dinners! The flies can be annoying this time of year so thankful we bought some organic bug repellent. Inside, lots of candles at the dining table was a perfect romantic touch to enjoy dinners and wine. We stayed in the upstairs first bedroom to the left and the mattress was extremely comfortable. Also loved the ceiling fans and ability to open the screened windows to take in all of the sounds at night. Over the last few days of our stay cows showed up and I loved their bells…just like beautiful chimes music to our ears!!! Our trip in late September turned into be harvest season, and it was a special treat to see the grapes in their full beauty and all the farmers out in the fields harvesting! Just drive slow…lots of big tractors!!! Also, since it was harvest time, we got to meet our host Michael and he was very gracious, and spent some time with us explaining about his vine

Above Expectations
The entire stay was wonderful and stress free. Communication was top notch. Directions were wonderful and it was listed on Google maps. We have been to several VRBO’s in Italy and this is the first one that exceeded our expectations and the pictures were spot on. Great location to explore Borolo and Barbaresco wine country. Fernanda, the chef that was recommended was lovely and her cooking class was great. Everything worked as it should. The A/C was more than adequate even on the 100 degree days that we had on the first few days of our stay. The house was clean and tidy. There are 2 bedrooms with on suite bathrooms, the other 2 share a downstairs full bath. All 4 bedrooms are upstairs. We were 3 couples and it worked out great. Pool is clean and loungers were in good nick. Overall a wonderful stay and a property we will come back to in the future.

We loved everything about our stay in this fantastic villa. It worked very well for x2 families as there is plenty of space. The photographs on VRBO are very accurate. Perfect week in Piemonte
My family and I stayed a week at Casa della Volpe in early July - really perfect in every way. The pictures are spot on, but it’s still better in real life. Michael was a great host and Diana (who met us at the house) was amazing - my wife and two of our kids ended up arriving a full day before the rest of us got there with the car, and Diana drove them herself to the market to stock up until we got there. Very much above and beyond! The house itself was beautiful, clean, well-stocked, and comfortable. We spent a ton of time by the pool (great to have in the summer heat) and ate outside on the patio every day so we could look out over the vineyards, sunflower fields, and hazelnut orchards. Only regret is that we only stayed a week! Definitely hope to come back again. 10/10.

A Hidden Gem in Piedmont~
We were fortunate to recently stay here 5 nights in the middle of a 3-week trip through northern Italy. It was a wonderful place to pause, relax, eat great food, drink amazing wine and rest. Michael, the owner, and Diana, the local caretaker where extra attentive, helpful and kind. Thank you for making my 50th birthday trip so special. We will return! After 30 years of traveling in Italy, I will never get enough.

It’s peaceful
This villa is peaceful and serene. The white cows grazing across the valley with their bells faintly ringing while you are floating in the pool is my favorite part. It’s quiet and gorgeous.
