Great location!!!!! ,would have been nice to get communication on how to check in and amenities at the property in advance. Also, number that is listed on orbitz was not one that was answered. After days of searching it is actually calling the faraway house around the corner to get any information.

The location and staff were great! We did not plan on spending much time at the Hawthorn House other than a place to sleep and shower, so the small room was all that we really needed. Price was great and free bikes! Will stay here again if its just the two of us.

Location is convenient. I booked a basic room advertised with TV. Room 10 did not have a tv. The box spring was not covered. There was no closet. The tub was missing a part so there was an open hole in the tub. The bathroom door did not close all the way so there was no privacy. There were also some small holes in the wall near the door that should have been repaired. I received a receipt for “innkeeper’s room”. I don’t think I was supposed to get this room. We stayed for 1 night so we didn’t bother requesting another room. I was disappointed.

Good hotel, bad communication
The location was amazing and the house is a historical building. Unfortunately, the communication with management was bad. I rented 2 rooms for our wedding guests and one room had no AC unit. The other one (street level) was missing a blind. I got charged twice for 1 of the rooms and it’s still unresolved 4 days later. They said they would call back but they don’t call back.

Being an experienced traveler and NOT a moron, I understood that Hawthorn House was a host-less hotel. I was told I would receive check in instructions via email. I never did. Nor did they respond to MY email...or the multiple phone calls and texts I sent them when, upon arriving tired from a cross country flight, I was still given no information about which room was mine. We found rooms with keys in the door--I just picked one that matched what I knew I'd paid for. It was clean, but had no toilet paper. I walked to the grocery store and bought my own. Later in the day, a very nice attentive housekeeper came by and gave me towels and toilet paper. I stayed there 6 days. Never saw her again. Took out my own trash & recycling. I don't blame HER. God knows what they actually have her scheduled to do. All that being said, my room (room 8) was very comfortable. The location of Hawthorn House is excellent. It's ok. Just don't expect to feel welcomed or communicated with in even the most basic way.

Best downtown inn in Nantucket in August
The best location downtown. We had room X and it was perfect for what we needed. It’s an old house so room and plumbing reflect that but you’ll get that with most of the inns, especially downtown. No AC but lots of fans were provided. Fortunately, we only had one real humid day. Surprisingly thick walls where we didn’t hear any other guests coming and going. The most comfortable bed and pillows. Great water pressure. Only thing I could complain about was the hair in the bathroom and the drain not draining perfectly. I did mention the hair issue to the cleaning lady the next day and it was thoroughly cleaned once we got back. The drain issue I’m sure is due to the old plumbing. Overall, we visit several times a year and this was by far the best inn we’ve stayed at downtown. I highly recommend it. Will definitely stay here again.

Convenient basic room
Great central location minutes to all restaurants, shopping and port. Basic small rooms you would expect in central Nantucket, but the bathroom across the hall (private to our room) which made it somewhat inconvenient running back and forth.

Location is great - walking distance to all of the bars and restaurants in town and very close to the shuttles that can bring you to other parts of the island. Staff is not present very often so just make sure you bring everything you need!

Just a room
There was no service. This is not a boutique hotel. Just a room to sleep. Many amenities were stated on the website. Free coffee and tea all day plus a continental breakfast — there was nothing. Beach chairs and umbrellas available—neither were available to guests. Self serve Ice maker was frozen solid in need of defrosting so —no ice. There was no one at the front desk. I had to text someone to find what from I was in. Then on the day of checkout we had the next guest knocking on our door at 9:30am to see if we left yet...checkout was at 11:00.

In Nantucket for a wedding and the location of this hotel was perfectly situated in the heart of downtown. However, it was not anything like the marketing photos online suggested. Basically a dirty little room in an old house. Maybe they have other rooms that have been redone to reflect a better experience but room number 6 is a tired mess.

Booked a room for two nights through Expedia and when I arrived my room was occupied. Henry Sanford the Management would not respond to repeated calls. Next day I was told my room was not available and either I could take a lesser room or check out. We agreed to a credit back for the mixup which he blamed expedia. NO REFUND. He welched. Ice machine was leaking all over the floor. TV did not work. Mold in the shower. No bed skirt. Nantucket's Worst. Do not stay here.

Disliked: Amenities
I thought it was a little overpriced. My room had “air conditioning” a wall unit but it did not cool the bathroom. It was very warm when you would leave door open to cool both rooms. Room appears to have been a sun porch so windows along two sides which made it hot with sum coming in. Also no bedside tables or usable outlets in the room. Had to plug in phone in bathroom. Chest of drawers had clean diapers in drawer I guess from another guest. Kinda odd. For $350+ a night too expensive for the type of accommodation.
