Few universities have both powerhouse football and basketball teams who have been national title contenders nearly every year for a century, but the Michigan Wolverines can claim such excellence. Winners of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in 1989 and home to the legendary players known as the Fab Five, the Wolverines have made it to the tournament 23 times. Not to be outdone, the football team has won a whopping 42 conference titles and 11 national titles, and they play one of the hardest schedules every year thanks to their inclusion in the Big 10 Conference. Pick up an affordable ticket to The Big House, also known as Michigan Stadium, and cheer on the Wolverines with the help of up to 100,000 fans at the largest stadium in the United States. They also regularly appear in bowl games, so get ready to book a flight, pick up a ticket, and leave the snow and cold of Michigan behind.
Be sure to check out the Yost Ice Arena to watch the men’s hockey team try to nab their 10th title as they fight for a spot in the Frozen Four. Lacrosse, rowing, and baseball are also popular spectator sports in Ann Arbor. In addition, the women’s basketball team is a bright spot on the collegiate landscape with 6 bids to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The university boasts legends like Charles Woodson, Chris Webber, and Gerald Ford—the 38th president of the United States. Some other teams may claim Michigan as a rival, but the only rivalry that matters to a Wolverine is that with the Ohio State Buckeyes, which is one of the strongest and oldest in college sports. With so many sports and so many great tickets available, you have few excuses to not cheer on the Maize and Blue.
