Vegas Golden Knights Establishment/History

It was about time before Vegas got itself an NHL franchise. The Frozen Fury games are played in Las Vegas annually, and the NHL Awards ceremonies have been held there since 2009. The team announced Gerard Gallant as head coach on April 13, participated in the NHL Expansion Draft on June 21st, and had their inaugural home game against the Arizona Coyotes on October 10th. The took force from the get go, and became the first time in NHL history to start their inaugural season with 8 out of 9 wins. February 1st of 2018 gave the Knights another record, recording 34 wins after their first 50 games. They set the most points during an inaugural season record on February 21st with 84 points. They were the first team to make the playoffs in their inaugural season since the Edmonton Oilers and Hartford Whalers in 1979-80. In the playoffs, the Golden Knights swept the Los Angeles Kings, becoming the first team to do so. The records didn’t stop there, for the Vegas Golden Knights made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals in their first season. They were bested by the Washington Capitals in 5 games, but there is no doubt that they played hockey unlike anyone had ever seen.
