The pier juts out from the northeasterly point of Lake Windermere. Gaze over the lake’s rippling water towards the lush green landscapes and mountain peaks of the Langdale Valley. The views are impressive from the pier, lakeshore path and gardens of nearby cafés and pubs. Watch as passenger ferries, private sailboats and rowboats come and go from the piers.
Experience the beauty of the lake on leisurely boat tours. Steamers and launches (open motorboats) depart from the pier and call at lake villages and tourist attractions. Stop at Bowness-on-Windermere to visit the Lake District Visitor Centre and at Windermere Jetty, for the Museum of Boats, Steam and Stories. In summertime you can catch a boat to Wray Castle, walk the western shoreline for 5 miles (8 kilometers) and then return by boat.

The easiest way to reach Ambleside Pier and Ambleside is by boat and car. Parking is available at the entrance to the pier. A public bus service connects with Bowness-on-Windermere and the market town of Kendal.
