Nice resort but staff harasses you

Posted Mar 22, 2015
Pros: Staff
Cons: Everybody needs to calm down.
For every person that stays there are 10 staffers watching you. We felt uncomfortable by the way they treated us. It was an overly nice "we are watching you" way, which was strange since we are well dressed, respectable American businessmen. They don't seem to understand the American culture at all - we don't want to be followed and we don't want to sit in a restaurant with 4 staffers staring at us waiting for us to order something. What was particularly annoying is everywhere you go in the resort they ask you your room number - you probably get asked 12-15 times a day, no lie. Anyone else who stays here will understand exactly what I am saying. It's all just too much. Relax, you have a gated community and plenty of security people, you don't need to harass your guests and make them feel like they something isn't right.

Peaceful and beautiful in many ways

Posted Feb 25, 2015
Pros: We liked all that we experienced at this resort.
Cons: Nothing
Location: We didn't explore the area except for an hour visit to the Ubud markets which we didn't like. It was too hot, all the stalls were very much the same.
Looking forward to another stay sometime, but next time would like to experience a villa with private pool. The staff were so attentive and willing to help in any way to make our stay comfortable. They were always happy and courteous. The buffet breakfast which is included in all accommodation tariffs, was always a treat to start each day. We loved walking down to the riverside café for a coffee. We loved the views to the creek below. It rained heavily while we were there one day and it was glorious to see the rain making the leaves glisten. We didn't indulge in a visit to the spa this time, but a walk through it indicated to us that it was top class. The gift shop had good quality reasonably priced items for sale. We did our gift buying there as it was much better than anything we saw in Ubud. Our flight wasn't until 11.35 pm the day of check-out, so we asked if we could stay and use the facilities for the day. They offered this openly, and advised us of the lounge available where we enjoyed showers with toiletries and fresh towels provided, before we left late afternoon for the airport. We cannot fault our stay. It was superb.

Fantastic hotel in an oasis of peacefulness!

Posted Feb 5, 2015
Pros: The beautiful infinity swimming pools, the calm relaxing atmosphere, the spa, the breakfast buffet, kind staff, and the location.
Cons: It would be great to have shuttle service later than 5pm if possible, and ceiling fans in the rooms as an alternative to air conditioning.
Location: The location was great - close enough to downtown to take an inexpensive taxi or the free hotel shuttle, but away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud.
I stayed at Maya Ubud by myself for 4 nights just to relax. It surpassed my expectations! I almost didn't want to leave the hotel, it was so peaceful with so many relaxing options - two pools, a great spa, nature walks through the grounds, morning yoga classes, and a beautiful rice field to walk through just next door. I ended up going into town just late afternoons/evenings and staying at the hotel most of the day, which was perfect. The breakfast buffet was also fantastic, with so many options of food and juice - wonderful! There is a free shuttle from the hotel to downtown from 9am-5pm. I had thought that maybe the hotel was too far from the center of Ubud and that I would need to book another hotel downtown for at least one night to experience the evening dances in the temples. Not true. It was only a 10 minute ride into town and catching a taxi back to the hotel was safe and no problem, only $4. I would recommend this hotel to solo travelers if they are looking for some rest and don't mind keeping to themselves a bit, or of course to couples, as it was a beautiful, romantic hotel as well. The hotel was able to arrange excursions with their drivers or even some other group tours as well. Just to be aware, however, that the prices were quite a bit higher if you book through the hotel, so you might want to compare prices with drivers in town. That said, the hotel staff was terrific and did their best to help with anything I asked for. Great hotel - highly recommend!

Romantic oasis

Posted Jan 2, 2015
Pros: Everything.
Cons: The prices for dinner were quite expensive for a buffet
Location: Very close to Ubud city with a shuttle bus every hour which is very convenient. Also close to a lot of day tours like cycling etc
Amazing hotel, would highly recommend staying in a private pool villa! Quiet and peaceful oasis with all facilities available. No need to leave the hotel. Definitively will be returning!

Wonderfully relaxing family retreat

Posted Dec 31, 2014
Pros: The riverside pool by the spa, the themed buffet cuisine each night, the 'one stop shop' approach to a holiday: you need never leave the Maya.
Location: A few minutes to 'downtown' Ubud via shuttle. Go in the mornings when the shuttle will strike less traffic and is more likely to be on time!
We chose the Maya Ubud for our first family trip to Bali and were not disappointed. The Maya is an exceptionally well run large hotel resort set in the most beautiful location, high in the lush and verdant hills of Ubud. While the gardens, architecture and the meals are stunning, the staff are the Maya's best asset. They are superb and utterly professional (from grounds staff through to front of house) and each of them works to ensure visitors have a fantastic experience. Our children loved the infinity pool and the breakfast buffets are truly superb. Seek out the afternoon teas (not to be missed) and have a massage in the day spa. We hired two garden villas for our family of four and were initially surprised the by local wildlife living in the thatched roof - but then this became part of the charm of the place, especially in the wet season, We will return to the Maya.

Traumhotel nah bei Ubud

Posted Dec 8, 2014

Great location. Loved the serenity

Posted Nov 22, 2014
Pros: As above
The pool down near the spa was amazing and well worth the experience. We also had time to embark on the nature walk which was informative and a great way to spend some time. Overall this experience is one of the best I have had in all of my international travels. A big thank you to the great staff who looked after us. Well done
