Aging structure - under going nice room up gradesPosted Mar 8, 2015
Pros: The pool and hot tub were very nice. The room updated (modern design) and very clean. The long history was intriguing.
Cons: The common areas in the lobby and the attached mall that is part of the main level structure of the hotel but has only and mainly empty store fronts.
Location: The boardwalk and easy access to beach with cabanas and/or umbrellas with chairs to rent (not part of the resort fee :-(.
The location on the Hollywood Beach and board walk were why I choose this hotel and the good price. The Al Capone component to the hotel history and some of the old antiques on the second floor were neat. The updated room we had was very nice and recent. Very comfortable and clean. Hot plate appliance and frig were nice for a several day stay. Free coffee in the room very nice. Not much of view from the room and that was okay. Basic price for room so we knew what we were signing up for. The hotel lobby and the cage like areas for the elevator and lobby section to access the Wi-Fi made you feel like the area was not safe. It was though. The common areas of the lobby and attached indoor mall are in severe decline with most of the shops vacant. The amenities in the work out room were old and room left a bit to be desired, a well worn carpet, paint on walls a bit dirty. The club bathroom as pretty yucky, unlike the very nice room and updates we had there. The Wi-Fi was only available in the lobby are and not in the rooms on the date we were there. The resort fee of $10 a day gets you a towel and use of the weight room and pool. Speaking of the pool, a high light of the board walk front, it has a 26 capacity hot tub that actually had working jets and hot water, a plus for a hot tub - so many are just luke warm. The board walk bar and grill in front of the hotel on the board walk (separately owned) offers good comfort food and good prices on adult beverages.

Aging hotel by the beachPosted Mar 5, 2015
Pros: I left.
Cons: Needs more than a face lift. Needs major reconstructive surgery. Probably a great hotel 60 years ago.
Hallways smelled of mold and restroom air freshners. Toilet contained remnants of the last occupant. Glossy white room interiors and harsh lighting. In room airconditioners with dryer vent hoses duct taped to the windows.

Expedia gauranteed an ocean view room Did not getPosted Feb 25, 2015
Location: Enjoyed the Board Walk
Expedia guaranteed an ocean view room and what we got was a partial ocean view and the beds were blocking the window. Therefore there was no view. Hotel room was not very clean and room was very small. Will think twice booking through Expedia. Was also charged a room deposit of $50. Parking was $22 and Expedia had $15 on their site. Pool closes early.

Hotel Not as DescribedPosted Jan 25, 2015
Pros: Not much of anything
Cons: Electrical wiring, overall updating, mattresses, roaming security to deal with the rowdy guests and voice pollution, weird foil hoses and stuff
Location: Hollywood Boardwalk is within walking distance
This hotel is significantly overpriced due to its location near the beach and history. First, its important to understand this is not a resort. It is a series of hotel rooms that are individually owned and all maintained according to different standards. Some are not updated, ALL are TINY. Barely enough room for two adults, extremely confining. The electrical outlets are scary as they look extremely dated and also difficult to find when you need one. This place is OLD, not updated, dark, dirty, dingy, tiny rooms, the so called 'mall' downstairs consists of about two stores neither of which is impressive at all, fairly long walking distance to the desirable part of the boardwalk where all the action is, and parking is a pain in the rear, no help with bags, you have to haul your bags from the next building over across construction work, into the next building, then up to your room. NOT wheelchair/disabled friendly at all. Do not recommend for elderly as there is a huge amount of walk necessary, it was also HORRIBLY loud and people screaming/running up and down the halls and I actually opened my door two different times and told some teenagers to knock it off and stop being disrespectful and I did so with bass in my voice I assure you. It was just...ugh..yuck. Wont be back. VERY overpriced for what you get at this place. Needs to be turndown and space used to build something nice and appealing.

Showing its Age, But Still ServiceablePosted Jan 22, 2015
Cons: There should be in-room WiFi.
Room was very nice with all the amenities one would expect: coffee, microwave, stove, refrigerator, dishware. Fairly large comfortable room. Even the light was OK. Downstairs there are not so many shops, but enough to get by. T-shirt Court is an institution. Bike shop with everything. Not so hot restaurant just outside, but plenty of others on and off the Boardwalk. Small sandwich shop inside was quite good, and even at the height of the season the tables were uncrowded and the corridor was not noisy. Thankfully, we didn't have a car; parking appears to be an utter nightmare. BIG problem: no in room WiFi. crowds in the lobby using their computers. Looked ridiculous.
