Shabby hotel

Posted Aug 22, 2014
The hotel was shabby and grimy in parts. The worst part was our departure being delayed by an hour because a van was parked on an emergency fire exit at the side if my car and another guest's car was parked behind it. All with the knowledge of the staff. The handling of the whole incident was terrible.

Good city centre hotel.

Parking was difficult as car park was full but managed ok. Very friendly staff and extremely helpful. It is a hotel on a number of floors and the lift was out of order. It is a little noisy as opposite a busy pub and could do with a refurb but comfortable.

Established hotel well placed in centre of town

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: It is important to us to have a central location with parking facilities as well as welcoming and friendly staff.
Cons: Lets just say that the refurbishment will be welcomed.
Location: Located in the centre of Lancaster the shopping, the stations, castle, tourist information, pubs and restaurants are all just minutes away.
We had a very pleasant 2 night stay in this hotel. It was by no means a modern hotel but we had a spacious room with a clean, comfy bed and a spotless toilet with plenty of hot water. Traffic noise etc was minimal and the old fashioned lift was quaint and the staff were all very friendly. If you were looking for a dining experience or a bar you would be disappointed but we knew this in advance and weren't bothered. The car parking was a bonus. We hear that a refurbishment is due shortly so the facilities available may change. Either way we would use this hotel again.

Close to town centre

hotel close to central Lancaster. Staff fantastic. But rooms a bit run down and creaking floorboards heard all night. OK for budget stay but if you're looking for something special... Maybe not.

Shoebox room and very noisy

Posted Jul 29, 2014
Booked this at around £40 as an Expedia Super saver hotel, and to be honest this room wasn't worth that if it was the full price and not supposedly heavily discounted. I often stay in cheap hotels on the road and have no problem with basic, cheap and cheery etc, but the room was extremely small and poorly gloomy. The furnishings and decor extremely dated etc, but the biggest issue is that I was stuck in a road facing room with very flimsy windows and there was loud traffic and pedestrians for most the night. Overall not great, sadly. I just wonder if because it was only a £40 room after discount they just shoved me in the worst room they had.

Great location, helpful staff

Posted Jul 18, 2014
Pros: The location, the kind staff.
Cons: Some of the faucets were old and leaky and dripped. It was a bit noisy like any hotel.
Location: Right next to the train station, in a prime location! You can't get any closer to local attractions.
I can't say enough good things about the kindness of the staff at this hotel. We worked with Becky and Lyndsay (Lindsay? I'm sorry if I mispelled!) and both were extremely helpful both in making sure we were comfortable at the hotel and in finding our way around Lancaster. As Americans, we weren't sure how to maneuver the local area. Both girls patiently drew maps out for us, showed us to the local train station, recommended local places to eat and visit, and were overall extremely helpful. The hotel is romantically old and picturesque. The rooms were clean, if a little dated, but comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who would like to stay at Lancaster at an affordable rate, and right next to the train station!

In need of TLC

Posted May 6, 2014
Pros: Staff
Cons: Everything
Location: Located in centre of town and convenient for all the walks and attractions in the vicinity. Bus stops also nearby.
Stayed on 3rd floor - walls very thin [could hear EVERYTHING!], windows need doubleglazing [noise from people talking in car park and smell from cigarette smokers], floorboards need silencing [could hear every squeak and groan!]! Room clean and basic. The place has a lot of potential but desperately needs upgrading and investment. Staff friendly and pleasant. Good luck for the future.
