Convenient for City Centre

Posted Oct 21, 2014
Pros: Pleasant staff, central location, car parking and good value for money
Cons: Room redecoration required, rooms were a little warm and temperature could only be controlled by opening a window.
Location: Castle, City Shopping Centre, Restaurants, Museum and River were all within easy walking distance of the hotel
A great advantage was that the hotel position was in the centre so that one could walk around Lancaster on foot. Free car parking was available too but the number of spaces was limited so this could present a problem. The staff were very helpful and there was a fair range of choice at breakfast which was served in a large room with a magnificent chandelier and looked as though it might previously have been a ballroom. Dinners were not a possibility when we were there because we were told the hotel was about to undergo refurbishment. This was needed because whilst it had been a grand building in its day some of the rooms were a little tired a a lick of paint was urgently needed. Also there were signs of peeling wallpaper in places. Rooms were large, comfortable and clean with coffee and tea making facilities in the rooms.

Fine

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Staff.
Cons: Sort out the heating and the ventilation
This hotel is sooooo hot. All the radiators on full blast all the time! Also, unfortunately, workers were digging up the pavement outside my window - all night. Literally all night. Obviously not the hotel's fault but, because the room was so hot (even once I turned the radiator off), I had to have the window open. But very friendly, helpful staff.

Not what I expected

Posted Sep 28, 2014
Pros: The rooms were clean and free wifi.
Cons: Relocation!
Although I hate generalisations, I was put off by the fact that each time I passed reception there was someone complaining. For all the grandeur of the main reception, there was a feeling of tiredness with a bar with all the atmosphere of limbo. The area was a big surprise with several hostels nearby and a great deal of noise outside throughout the night. Not one to return to.

City centre hotel with lots of character

Posted Sep 28, 2014
Pros: Its central location, it as its own car park, the rooms are comfortable and breakfast is great.
Location: Town centre shopping is on the doorstep and the historic Lancaster castle just around the corner.
We've stayed at this hotel several times now and will no doubt choose it again in the future. It's in the centre of town, with the shops and attractions like the castle on its doorstep. And because it has its own car park, we can enjoy the delights of the many bars and restaurants nearby. The hotel is very comfortable. We love the old lift with its historic price lists on its walls which adds to the character. Our room on the fourth floor was also very comfortable and spacious with views across the city. The dining room is beautifully decorated and the full English breakfast each morning was well prepared setting us up for the day.

Central location, rooms a bit tired.

I had one night stay at this hotel. Staff were great but the room was in need of some attention. Bathroom and bedroom both needed a general revamp. However, the room was clean and had everything I needed.

Excellent central location

Posted Sep 16, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location
Cons: The lift is a genuine antique, the carpets a bit threadbare, but these are minor details.
Location: Within easy walking distance are the Castle, Priory, Roman Bath house, Judges Lodgings, Cottage Museum, Maritime Museum, 2 theatres, shops, eateries
We chose the hotel because it advertised "free parking", a huge advantage in Lancaster where parking is difficult to find. In fact we left the car in the hotel parking on arrival and never touched it until we left for home. The location could not have been better, as all the historic sights were within easy reach. Our room was small but very clean, and secondary glazing meant that the noise from the busy road was kept to a bearable level. The shower was excellent, the cold water to the wash basin scarcely ran. To be honest, the hotel needs a major refurbishment, but the price we paid reflects that. You could only get breakfast there, but there are restaurants and coffee bars galore very nearby. Staff were friendly and helpful and, if only for the location, we would stay there again.
