Experience and facilities on the whole good. But felt the staff were lacking in courtesy and respect when it came to customer service, very abrupt worlds apart from what I experienced in the USA a few weeks before, more of a welcome and a desire to make the stay comfortable would have been great.

Beware of hidden charges

Pros: Decor, grounds, lake, countryside space, quiet and calm.
Cons: Clarity about charges involved for B&B packages.
Location: The approach road is 2 miles long so best to stay put and settle into the space, but the South Downs National Park is worth seeing before or after.
I had passed Champney's a few times when driving in Hampshire and was curious about it. I saw a rate that seemed not too bad so decided to go for a special weekend with my son. Talking to hotel staff, I learned that almost all people come on an all inclusive package and nobody seemed to know much about the bed and breakfast route. To be fair, their restaurant prices are okay, but menus show no prices, it is assumed you will have 3 courses, and staff seem downright confused about how to charge for a meal that is just a main course. Also other peoples' dinner charges appeared on our bill which I fortunately was able to negotiate with them to drop. The real issue was that 2 nights is just that - 2 nights - and between 10am and 5pm of the day in between you are charged a hefty per person "facilities" fee. Ouch. The place is nice and very relaxing and the pools are good and the decor is enjoyable. We loved the absence of children and a general sense of calm. It really does feel like a healthy space and the experience is refreshing, but the quibbles and uncertainties about the cost were annoying.

As a professional cycling team we had some odd requests during our stay but nothing was too much to ask. The staff bent over backwards to help us during our stay. Highly recommended.

Relaxing good view, resturant staff a little rude

Generally plesant stay, nice surroundings, views across the lake. However went to the resturant and the staff were very poor and rude. Had to ask for bread, not asked how meal was, asked for chocolate ice cream - staff just delivered a different flavour and said you'll be lucky to get chocolate! I suggest the hotel to a secret dinners and find out for yourself!
