5th Time at Sunset at the Palms

Posted Jan 13, 2015
Pros: Staff is awesome. Food is fresh and focuses on local cuisine. This resort feels like you're right in the middle of nature
Cons: Electronic safes would be nice, showers run out of hot water rather quickly, fresh tuna sandwiches should be added to menu at beach grill again
Location: Wild Thing catamaran cruise is a must, the Office of Nature serves great wood fire grilled lobster
This was our 5th time at Sunset of the Palms and it was great as usual. The staff was awesome as always. They really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Had a few people complaining about the food when we first came in, but we never had a bad meal. Sunset really focuses on serving local cuisine and it doesn't disappoint. It had been a few years since we last visited Sunset and they had made a few improvements. It was nice to see mini bars in the rooms. If you're looking for an awesome massage, book one with Denise. Yes you pay spa prices, but she is well worth it. Many people are turned off by the fact that the beach is across the street from the resort, but we have never found this to be a problem. They have all you need on the beach and if you take a walk around Bloody Bay you will see that it's the best stretch of beach on the bay. Only thing that we were disappointed with was that they have shortened the time for entertainment in the evenings. Used to go to midnight or so and most nights it was done by 10:30. Overall though, it was another great time at Sunset at the Palms!

Perfect romantic getaway

Posted Dec 17, 2014
Pros: Quiet when your in your cabin and fun when you're hanging out listening to the bands. The staff are amazing and the groundskeepers are so happy!
Cons: The only thing I would change is one more day to be able to eat in the Lotus Room. We missed the opportunity because we were busy one of the days and
Location: The only places we went to were Times Square shopping mall and Rick's Cafe so I could jump off the cliffs. The resort and ocean kept us content.
Sunset at the Palms is the prettiest and most secluded resort we've ever been to! Each of the cabins with the verandas are hidden among the palms and other trees and plants making you feel like you're all by yourself and not in a resort. The food was very good and the staff are friendly and very happy! They remembered us and our favorite drinks, lol! We did the Chef's Table and that is a MUST do! It would have been nice to be directly on the beach but there is always a crossing guard there to make sure you can cross the road safely. If we make it back to Jamaica someday, We will come here again for sure!

Everything Irie In A Truly Relaxing Getaway!!!

Posted Dec 8, 2014
Pros: We loved the layout of the grounds with our 'tree-house' room, and all the accommodations including the stocked fridge, daybed, coffee set-up, etc.
Cons: Sound Wall in the 600 section as we could hear cars constantly honking and whizzing by, and also heard late night music from Riu across the street.
Location: Great location, and taxi's are always available and negotiable for short drive to anywhere including shopping, dining, see the cliffs, etc.
My husband and I were so very pleased with our stay at Sunset At the Palms in that all of the staff were very accommodating from the time we arrived to the day we departed. The buffet is truly authentic in providing just about anything to please anyone, and the grounds are so clean and well-maintained with attention to detail by all of the grounds keepers. They are also very pleased to share their knowledge on all the plants and trees native to the resort, and we received a beautiful bouquet of flowers for our room from Lynford. Our room was taken excellent care of by Miss Madge, who made our stay extra special for us as well, and we highly recommend the Spa for a Couples Massage as the ladies really knew how to work out all the stress and kinks in our neck and back to make for an even more relaxing vacation. The beach felt so safe as the security made their presence well-known to the vendors to not be overbearing if people were not interested. The nightly entertainment was a great highlight as well in that they really worked to get everyone up and dancing, and feeling in a good vibe. Even though our room was situated right next to the highway, we did not hear a peep from the other guests in that it was so serene and quiet walking through the resort. We LOVED that it was not commercial looking like the other resorts, and our only recommendation to Sunset Resorts would be to maybe put up a sound barrier wall to block the daily traffic sounds in the 600 section. VERY IRIE!!

wonderful place I would love to keep a secret !

Posted Nov 24, 2014
Pros: the grounds, the customer service, the beach and the fresh food
Cons: We would have liked a small limited room service menu. A bit more lighting in the room.
Location: We did a Rick's cafe and shopping tour for a small fee, The hotel offers a comped tour to Xtabi and one to Rhodes Hall. Mayfield Falls is nearby.
If you want ten restaurants, a disco, a casino stop reading! If you want to have excellant customer service, great food and the perfect place to relax this is it. After a one day snafu getting the quiet room I requested we were moved and the rest of the stay was golden. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. Lovely pathways with the rooms tucked into the foilage. Quiet with fairly private balconies. The food is fresh and tasty. We did the chef's table and the Lotus and they were good but the buffet.and the jerk on the beach really shone..I am an adventuress eater - pumpkin mashed potatoes? sauteed callaloo? ya mon! Hubby not so much but each night he found something really yummy to eat. Shout out to Elvis for teaching me about June plums and sop fruit. And to Mohan for talking recipies with me and making perfect drinks.. The beach was wonderful. Yes you walk across the street but we talked to folks from the Riu next door and their walk was longer and they were a beach front hotel. The customer service - we were moved without issue. We called for some minor maintenance and they were there in minutes. Another couple asked that an unused gazebo on the beach be cleaned up for their yoga and within an hour it was weeded and fixed. There is no smoking per se but a nice area by the bar on the grounds and the back of their beach area is set up nicely for those that do.

Great small gem

Posted Nov 20, 2014
We stayed there for 4 nights in Nov 2014. It's not a grand, luxurious property, so we expected simple and nice. Positives: small, well-kept property, great food, nice entertainment, adults only, friendly staff, private beach right across the street. Negatives: No glass windows- heard everything from room, wi-fi slow and spotty (I need connection even when on vacation) bed mattresses uncomfortable.
