Jamaica Hotel & Resort Travel Guide

Jamaica is known for its beautiful beaches, tropical weather, and friendly natives. This island nation is the third-most populous English-speaking country in the Americas, coming in after the United States and Canada. Jamaica was taken by the United Kingdom from the Spanish in 1655, and today remains a Commonwealth realm.

When visiting, make sure to sample local delicacies such as jerk chicken. Rice and peas cooked in coconut milk and filled pastry dishes known as patties are popular foods as well.

    When to Visit

The general climate of Jamaica is tropical. Weather can be hot and humid, but the inland areas have a higher altitude than the coastal areas and, as such, have a more temperate feel. Temperatures generally run between the mid 70s and high 80s year round making for perfect swimming weather.

The best time to visit Jamaica is from October to mid-December. During this time, it's easy to find cheap hotel deals in Jamaica, allowing you to find and book top rooms at special discount rates and some of the best prices of the year for Jamaica hotels. The weather during this time is at its most gorgeous, and you can avoid much of the crowds present during the busier months.

The months of January to March are when most people visit Jamaica, particularly in March. This is another good time to visit as events such as the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, the Bob Marley Birthday Bash, and Bob Marley Week take place during this period of time. This is also the most popular time for tourists to visit, so the crowds can be quite large. If booking one of the hotels in Jamaica during this time, you will want to make reservations well ahead of time.

From April to June, the island experiences a rainy season. This is a great time to visit if you are looking for a cheap Jamaica hotel deal. Some of the most amazing Jamaica hotel deals and Jamaica hotel packages are offered at rock-bottom prices. In early April, the island holds a fabulous Carnival celebration with an amazing and stunning array of colors, sounds, and an extremely fun party atmosphere.

From July to September, flights and room rates are often the lowest of any time of the year, but this is also hurricane season. Many hotels and attractions close for renovations during this time further making it one of the least favorable times to visit.

    "Beautiful hotel"
There are not enough outlets in the rooms for electronics. Customer service should deal with the customer in front of them not put on hold to answer phones. I was physically standing at the front desk and was put on hold three times while they answered the phones. Most days most of the "hot" food is dead cold 5 minutes after start of mealtime. Jamaican food not flavored enough. Had to go to the lobby for free internet. Like the fact that the minibar had a HUGE bottle of water and it was free. My housekeeper Sherine was AWESOME!!! Ricardo the window cleaner was a huge help in navigation. Even with these, I would stay there again.

"2nd time at Riu Tropical Bay"
Just got back yesterday from the Riu Tropical Bay in Negril. The staff at check in was wonderful. No waiting time at all. During our visit, every one of the staff that we encountered was warm and friendly. Pros: Awesome beach, great staff, good service. Cons: Food is okay, neither bad nor exceptionally good. Water pressure was not good in the rooms, but we had heard that there was a drought and the country as a whole was having to conserve water. One day we ordered room service and it never arrived but this wasn't a deal breaker. Whomever was to stock our room with coffee never restocked but in all fairness we never called the front desk to see if they could rectify the problem. What minor problems did occur was more than made up for by the friendliness of the staff
