“very convenient for business travellers”

I know this hotel since more than 10 years, always stay there when I go to SJ and prices are ok. Location is ok, just a bit out of city center in order to be quiet enough and on the high way to the air port. If you go, ask for a room to the back side (not the side of high way) if you don´t like the noise.

“Will never return”

The Barcelo Costa Rica is a MONEY TRAP. The exchange rate between the $ and local currency is ridiculous. The hotel doesn't give it's guest any privileges at the there, everything must be paid for and the service is HORRIBLE. The staff are so rude and abrupt with guests. I was horrified! The hotel's "shuttle" doubles as a taxi cab and charges about $10 per off site drop off. This taxi service is necessary, as there is nothing around the hotel and walking would take forever to reach "anything". I was so happy when the stay was over. I will never visit a Barcelo Hotel/Resort again.

Great hotel with airport shuttle. Surrounding neighborhood is iffy but very nice hotel.

“Barcelo”

This seems like an hotel that was built in the 70s. Not the best hotel to stay in, but the staff makes up for it. Very kind and helpful which is important specially if you are new to San Jose. The free shuttle pickup from the airport was great. Instead of having to figure out the taxis and the mess outside of the Airport, a kind driver in a big van was there waiting for us with my name printed. Hotel isnt the best, but the staff is the best.

“Beautiful Country”

~Hotel was very nice, attentive & friendly service & breakfast buffet was tasty. ~Only negative is omission of the facts that your room key card is needed on the elevator to access your floor, and needed to utilize the electricity in your room..I would have liked to be told that upon check-in.

“Barcelo Afficionato”

We stayed at Barcelona Palate because our Costa Rica tour was staying there the following two nights. We were totally pleased with the hotel and the transition to our tour.

Area recommendations

We did not venture downtown and were warned not to go there. Hotel is 3 km from downtown.
