Palacio de Seteais is a lovely, stately period hotel that carries its elegance with ease. No stuffiness here, despite rooms filled with authentic pieces, paintings and wall decor. It recalls an earlier time and shows it's imperfections as it well should. The gardens are lush and peaceful, containing a maze of boxwood leading to a vista overlooking Sintra. The excellent pool is adjacent to an old lemon orchard, which in turn, is the view from an serving area, presently covered and waiting for kinder, summer weather. Evenings by the downstairs bar are accompanied by piano music and served by barmen who know what there're doing. This is a grand, easy, and gracious place to come back to.

It was hard to take the suitcases to the room, they do not have people to help. There is just one computer in a squeezed room called business center and it is always busy. The garden is not well cared.

I visited pengha longa for a holiday of relaxation and exploration. From the outset, I was treated with the greatest hospitality from the reception staff to the housekeepers. This is a hotel that surpasses expectation. Clean, efficient and amazing. The choice of restaurants is fantastic with the tapas Arola - top of the list. There is a choice of three swimming pools, jacuzzi, sauna, gym as well as a spa and golf course. I was in easy reach of the local culture with Sintra a mere taxi ride and Lisbon - a short train journey along the beautiful Atlantic Coast. This was my first visit to Portugal and I have now been spoilt by Pengha Longa. I will be back.

Great hotel with very helpful staff and great updated rooms. Very quiet with nice view. Bus stop just out front to access all sites. Not much for parking but you can park by the train station for free all day long. Only thing I would request is better pillows and top sheets. Just having a duvet makes it hot sleeping.

We were under no illusions on what to expect on arrival based on previous reviews - and as it's pretty cheap we can accept that. The Hotel exterior was nice with flowers, trees etc. however the interior was a bit 70's - nothing major though. (really clean and cleaned daily)
Was a bit noisy as in the middle of the night someone had a shower when they checked in and that was me not getting back to sleep!!
Please be aware this is very remote and with the staff not wanting to help at all (getting a bus was a bit of an experience) it can be a little daunting at first until you get your bearings. As we were unsure how to get about, we asked if there were any buses - only to get a monotone - "yes" No additional help was offered and they seemed to resent us being there which was a shame.
One additional piece of advice - the estimated cost of the taxi was under 20 euros however in reality it was just under 50. The taxi driver mentioned if we told him the hotel was near Praia Grande (which it is) he would have taken a different route than what the sat-nav took which is the direct route to the hotel. This would have been cheaper.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the lush woods and spectacular mountain valleys of Sintra have been a royal retreat since medieval times, popularised by 19th-century romantic writers. Sintra National Palace, with its magnificent collection of exotic tiles, dominates the town. The atmospheric ruins of the Castle of the Moors lie three kilometres southwest and the Disney-like pseudo-medieval Pena National Palace is four kilometres to the south.
