To get a sense of what makes Rome tick, pull on some comfortable shoes and discover surrounding areas like Tiber Island, Rome, and Monteverde Nuovo.
To really get a feel for Rome, head to one of its many cultural destinations. There are plenty of excellent destinations to take the family for a few hours including Galleria Borghese, Capitoline Museum and the Galleria Doria Pamphilj. For a great night out, reserve seats at Valley Theater, Teatro Argentina and Auditorium Conciliazione, one of the region’s great live concert venues. If you love everything to do with art, visit the collections at Borghese Gallery, the National Museum of Oriental Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome.
If you love nature and wildlife, plan a trip to the nearby parks and reserves. These are good spots to relax. Escape the rat race for a while and soak up some sunshine in local parks and gardens such as the Botanical Gardens, Savello Park and the Colle Oppio Park.
A number of Rome’s attractions are in the Via Nazionale area, including Pantheon, Synagogue and Spanish Steps. Brush up on Rome’s history by visiting the Santa Maria del Popolo, the Santa Maria della Vittoria and Porta Portese. Whatever your religious background, you'll love the serenity at sacred places like the Temple of Concord, Chiesa Valdese and the Trinita dei Monti Church.
To enjoy some retail therapy, explore the Campo de' Fiori Market and the Galleria Alberto Sordi.
Enjoy the atmosphere at nearby Foro Italico and enjoy the spectacle of rugby union, soccer or soccer in action. There’s no nicer way to rub shoulders local sports lovers than to sit high in the stands wearing the light blue and white colors of local favorites, the Italy National Rugby Union Team.
At the end of a busy day exploring the delights of Via Nazionale, stay the night at one of the area’s hotels or serviced apartments. Take your pick from the Starhotels Metropole, the UNA Hotel Roma, or the Hotel Quirinale.
