Never again
I read some of the other reviews before I started mine. Maybe it depends on who is at the desk when you arrive. We had a room with the poorest excuse for a bed we have ever had. The clerk put us with three suitcases and one handbag into a second floor room. There are NO elevators, dragging all this up two sets of steps after going outside and across a parking area (and thats after walking with all of it from the bus station). The other couple who were getting a room at the same time had one hand bag each and he put them in the first floor. At least he was friendly which is more than could be said for any of the others. One clerk could not even be bothered to look at us when we said "Good morning" to him each day. There were dangling cobwebs over our bed and the rest of the room didnt look any too clean. However the square the hotel is on does have good pubs with friendly people and we did have a good time in Crawley itself. Just will stay somewhere, anywhere else next time.

worst bed ever
hotel is not terrible considering the price HOWEVER the bed was the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in- the matress must have been 100 yrs old.-If you want a good nights sleep before flying out from Gatwick- forget this hotel.

Great Find
There are so many places like The George to stay at near Gatwick. The thing that sets this place apart is that it is on the town square in Crawley, so you are surrounded by pubs and restaurants and have no trouble getting something to eat at any time. The receptionist was not overly friendly (which I found to be the same at most airport hotels I have stayed at near Gatwick), but the people of Crawley were lovely. Even if you get in late at night and leave early in the morning, if you go out for a walk in town you will feel like youve had a nice stop over in England.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
According to locals The Old Punch Bowl has the best pub grub-go to the left out the front door. Most pubs stop taking food orders at 9:30pm, after that youll have to a restaurant or fast food joint.
