The 11 million bricks needed for its construction travelled up the Ouse River (via Newhaven and Lewes) from the Netherlands. It cost £38,500 to build[4] (equivalent to about £2½ million in 2000[5]). The structure is a Grade II listed building and was restored in 1996 with grants from the Railway Heritage Trust and English Heritage.
