Tucson

The hotel needs to have better food services--at the time I stayed, they only offered breakfast and bar after 3 pm. This definitely needs to be expanded for them to appear competitive in the area.

Nice & quiet close to campus

Nice, quaint, village-type setting just SE of U of A. Spacious room with very comfortable king bed. Would definitely stay there again.

Great Location

Nicely renovated and great location. It was close to all the places we needed to go. There is not a lot of privacy as the walkways are close to the windows and you can hear everyone that walks by-if the blinds are not closed correctly they could even look right in. And the room was quite nice, Very charming except for the old musky smell in the room. I don’t know if it was once a smoking room or if it was just due to being an old building but it really smelled bad. Other than that it is a really nice old hotel. I would stay again and ask for a different room if there is a bad smell.

Complete disappointment

Knowing that the hotel was being renovated, I called the hotel specifically to find out what was open and what was closed. I was told that both the restaurant and the hotel bar were open and fully functioning. Upon arrival, we were informed that the restaurant was only open for breakfast and that the bar was not open. The management staff stated that it is clear on their website that they are under renovations. When I informed them that I was aware of that and I called the hotel specifically to find out the level of renovations and I was informed that the restaurant and bar were just opened, I just received a blank look from the front desk staff who reiterated that management is unwilling to rectify the situation. Upon checking into the room, we recognized a variety of maintenance issues that needed to be addressed and again the front desk staff was very dismissive. They informed us that they are in the process of becoming a boutique hotel and the maintenance issues I addressed ie. half of the secondary chain lock missing, the blinds not fully closing, stains from the fireplace on the wall, are in compliance from the direction their corporate office is headed and they will not be fixed.

More bad than good

We stayed with our children and had two rooms at the hotel. One in the new addition that was nice, clean and had the amenities listed on the website. The other room was in the older portion of the hotel. It was cramped and dirty (dust on top of the night stands etc).. There was a large bug in our sheets when we pulled down the comforter. Water ran out of the faucet a dark yellow for the first few minutes after we turned the water on. The floor molding was broken off or loose all around the floor. There was a large gap under the door to the outside. The remote control did not match or work with the television. ETC! Beware!

Tucson Lodge

Lovely old Lodge that has been renovated, the hotel staff was excellent, clean and helpful. Price point was quite good and would stay again since it seemed located centrally. The only thing I wish it had would be more of a breakfast but there was many options close by.

beautiful but not polished

Lovely Desert lanscape, old pueblo feel rooms, hot jacuzzi and nice pool, recently remodeled, nothing like the online picture, but still nice. Workmanship on renovation is a little sloppy

memory foam mattresses are wonderful

My wife has a bad back and shoulders, so she sleeps poorly on coil spring mattresses. We chose this hotel because they advertise memory foam mattresses on their web site, and the bed was wonderful. We got one of their new rooms, and it was very spacious. Some minor details: Watching regular TV shows on the widescreen TV, the picture is stretched horizontally to fill the screen, so faces and bodies are extra wide. The bathroom design makes you wonder--e.g. you can’t reach the towel rack from inside the shower--but the shower head is high enough for a basketball player. Outside the door, only 2 of 4 lights had bulbs, so it was kind of dark. The renovations on the grounds are not quite complete (Sept 6), and the resturant is not open, yet, but it is done is a nice, southwestern style. We did not try the continental breakfast. Overall, a nice experience.

Oasis in the City

I stayed in a "historical room". I was worried that it would lack the ammenities newer rooms had. It was tasefully updated and yet retained the character of a room with lots of history. The hotel was close to the university, shops, restaurants and parks. A small continental breakfast was a treat because the restaurant was being remodeled. It is my new favorite place to stay in Tucson.

Gem in the desert

We were pleasantly surprised by this place. I picked it because it was relatively close to UA (we were moving our son into his dorm) and it had a good price. Turns out it’s virtually brand new. Some of the buildings were still being finished while we were there. Actually, part of it is an old apartment complex that’s been renovated. My only quibble, and it’s minor, is that breakfast was a little skimpy. That could be because their restaurant was closed for renovation.

Traveler's tip on dining

The Old Pueblo Grill is withing walking distance and is outstanding. Great food at reasonable prices.

I’ll stay here again

The hotel is newly renovated and everything is very nice. Renovation is not complete so the restaurant was closed but will open before my next visit. The room was spacious and had a fireplace and beautiful view of Mt. Lemmon. The only problem was the exterior lighting near our room was not working but they were working on it.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Two miles from University of AZ.

Lodge on the Desert

If you get a room in one of the new buildings it is nice, We were in the upstairs of one of the old buildings. They called it a delux room with two Queens. The room was ok, the bathroom is BAD. old, dingy, probably not updated since the 60’s. The shower does not drain, it has a 4" threshold and it still overflows onto the floor.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Ask for a room in a new building.

Delightful experience

This isn’t a monolithic box. It’s several small lodges connected by a gorgeous winding xeriscaped path. Nice clean rooms, well maintained. The staff bent over backward to be helpful. Lovely pool. I’d stay there again in a heartbeat.

The old part of the hotel was modernized to be beautiful!

The old part of the hotel was modernized to be beautiful! The staff was very eager to call with anything. There is a library where we eat breakfast every morning and met the nicest people. My wife and I loved it!

Tucson-Style Hotel--Very Nice

This hotel is exceptionally clean. Why go to Tucson and stay at a chain hotel? You should choose this one instead. I stayed in room 263 from July 29 - August 2, 2009. As soon as I opened the doored, I said "yes." From the bathrooom to the luxury, it is really nice. The decor fits the Tucson lifestyle. In addition, it is located in East Tucson. This is the heart of the city.

Amazing Value in Tucson, AZ!

This hotel is probably the BEST VALUE in Tucson, AZ! The Lodge has both "historic" rooms & newer remodeled rooms. The remodeled room was so comfortable & complete. Flat screen TV, lovely large soaking tub, in-room fridge, luxurious (and green/eco friendly)soaps & products & in room free internet. The staff was warm, welcoming & helpful. Pool and pool area so nice. Continental breakfast was included too!

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Hiking in the area is truly an amazing experience! Alpine (cooler) hikes take you to waterfalls & pine trees in the summer. Buy a hiking guide before going. Found great hikes in: Saguaro Nat. Park, Catalina Mt. Nat. Park & Mt. Lemmon-trail maps/directions on-line. Check out the Museum of the Desert & have a "spa treatment" at one of the area resorts after!

Will be interested to see how it is when the construction is finished

A good value for the price. There were some rough corners that need to be taken care of.
