Clean and Neat Hotel, Bad Location

This hotel was standard for what you would expect from a Ramada. Neat, clean, great service, and the quality of the room was fine. The hotel was in a somewhat bad part of Jersey City (Journal Square) but it was 2 min on foot to the PATH and 3 stops to the World Trade Center. Can’t beat that.

Close to NYC and worth the $$

THe hotel was clean, close to the subway to NYC and the front desk was very helpful. When we could not get a parking space in the public garage they helped us find a safe spot for the day. I would stay there again.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

no free parking is tough so get there early to get a spot in the public garage and jump on the subway to NYC.

Not bad, but I wouldn’t choose it again

The staff was very friendly, I liked that! Fitness room was ok. The hotel is located a few minutes from a parking and the Journal Square train station to Manhattan, that’s good as well. The first night I had an approx. 8cm long centipede in my room. The toilet lid had to be hold open by hand, as a shelve behind it prevented it to be fully opened. The room decor/equipment is old fashion and not my style. In total, it wasn’t a bad hotel, but I wouldn’t choose it again.

Hotel Stay

The hotel is about 2 blocks from the Path train and takes about 15 min to get into the city. The hotel was great;nice open room, clean, our restroom was a good size and there were lots of breakfast options. The only thing was when you first walked into the room it had a musty/stuffy smell but it goes away.

*TIP: The Path train uses the metrocard which they use for the subways in NY but you do have to pay for both rides. The Path ride is $1.75 one way, so this was an unexpected cost for us. Also if you travel w/ kids know thier height because if they are under 44" or somewhere around that they can ride free. Hope that helps someone else. :)

Overall it was an okay hotel...

The neighborhood appeared to be shady, but we could walk from the Path station to the hotel at 10pm without any problems. The Path station is about 5 min away from the hotel, so it is very convenient to get into the NYC. The $9/day parking is down the road from the hotel. But I had a trouble with the room we were in. There was no closet to hang our jackets, one of the bedside lamps was not working and the worst of all the room got so hot that we had to leave the airconditioning on all night. We thought the room was hot in mid Nov and I don’t even want to imagine what it would be like in the summer time!! I recomend the hotel but never stay in room 119.

I was impressed at how they wanted to make our stay good.

The location was excellent. Only minutes from the Path Train location! Could not have been any easier. Very easy to get to the Memorial Park(?) by the Path then to the street car for a nice ride down to the park to catch a ferry to Ellis Island and to the Statue of Liberty. The Path train is an excellent way to get to downtown NYC. Either at the "ground zero" area or to the 33rd street location near the Empire State building. If you want a mix of cultures and languages you will definately get it at the Ramada Inn at Jersey City. Breakfast is a hoot with all the languages and mostly all trying to carry on in English. The location is in a Latino neighborhood and I never felt intimidated. The folks on the street were polite with answering questions. Even the police were extra polite. I parked my car about a block away. Main level under the car garage is for monthly paying people. You can park on the other levels or park outside. I was somewhat anxious about outside(Illinois plates) But the area is fenced in and restricted. You can rest easy on that place. You don’t need your car anyway while there. I highly recommend the Ramada Inn there and will go back again.. Al .........Streator, Illinois

Journal Sq Ramada Limited was just fine!

Breakfast was yummy tho it does get crowded, go early to get a table and the best selection of fresh fruit and yogurt as they go quickly.

Very convenient to transportation to NY

The room was clean. It was not the best neighborhood, but very close to the train. The service was excellent, the room was clean I will stay there again without hesitation.

Traveler's tip

If you want to see NY city attractions, this is a good place to stay. You will be in NY in about 15 to 20 minutes by train.

Nice hotel for a New York trip

We stayed here for 3 night for our New York trip. The location is very convenient since it’s only a block away from PATH station which took us directly to the world trade center. The room is very nice and clean and the staff is nice. The drawbacks are that: i) the hotel does not have a parking. So you have to pay another 9$ per day at a nearby parking structure.; ii) the hotel itself is very difficult to find. It took us nearly half an hour from once we were in the area to actually find the front entrance of the hotel to check-in.

Have used this hotel a number of times

I needed a hotel close to a train station and a place to park....this one was within a few minutes of both which made it very easy to come and go from New York City....the staff was pleasant, the breakfast had many choices and if needed a shuttle to and from the Newark Airport...I have used this hotel for a number of years and will continue to do so as I am very pleased as a single woman bringing her friends to visit the Big Apple.

Good Place to Stay

The hotel was good location for us to stay, central to PATH, rooms were spacious, clean, bathroom small but adequate, breakfast area nice but food quantity was lacking, alway ran out of food--gave up and bought breakfast out, that was our only disappointment.

Strange TV

They gave us a much better room than we expected, kind of a mini-suite. When we booked, we thought we were going to have to move after the first night because we wanted a non-smoking room. The TV could not receive any of the network stations, but instead we got 3 Indian stations and 2 Spanish stations. Not a lot of selection if you are not into Bollywood. Breakfast was great, but not enough seating. The bathroom was really small. In fact, sitting on the toilet required contortion.

Traveler's tip

If you plan on using PATH a lot, this is a good place.

If you don’t mind...

First of all, the reservation stated a king size bed and it was not even a Queen. You have to park 2 blocks away because there is no parking for the hotel. The People at the front desk were Amazing. Personable and had charm. Breakfast was very nice, lots to choose from.

A good alternative to being in NYC

This was the 6th stay at this hotel in past year. It is an old apartment building - rooms are very spacious, bathrooms very tiny. Heat is abundent and often require windows open in the winter or even A/C. Staff is pleasant. Mainly - 1/3 the price of staying in Midtown NY. 1 block walk to path train and affordable parking 1/2 block away. Main Problem - Old building.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

This is not the Taj Mahal

Terrible! Beware! Stay anywhere but here!

The Ramada is in a very sketchy part of town, smells terrible, has wall paper peeling off the walls, is noisy, probably dangerous and overall disgusting. The bedspread was so filthy it felt like it had a waxy coating on it and one person in our party actually left the hotel to go buy cleaning supplies for her room. We tried to move to another hotel but everything was sold out so our entire group had to spend 3 miserable nights there. The first night I had a basement room which was worse than some of the hostels I stayed in when I was a college student and backpacking abroad. I arrived and wanted to cry. It was totally full (deceiving photos on the internet) so I had to spend the night in the room before being moved upstairs. The only positive was that the staff was very nice, unfortunately there was nothing they could do to make up for the terrible condition and location of this hotel.

Perfect jumping off point

We were pleased with the hotel. I called ahead to confirm our late arrival, and mentioned that I looked forward to extra pillows. They were in the room when we arrived. The room was actually a suite, which I did not expect. Our sons had a separate room with a double or queen bed, and we had a king. The bathroom was tiny, and some of the tile was old, but all the fixtures worked and it was very clean. Had enough shampoo and soap. Like many European hotels, they did not have face cloths in the bathroom, though they would have supplied them had I asked. Each room had a TV, but the remotes didn’t work. The controls on the sets, did. Since we didn’t come to watch TV, That was fine. Overall, this is a clean, comfortable place to stay to visit New York. The parking garage is about a block walk, and they have a tiny parking pad at the front door for unloading. We didn’t use it, but would the next time. The neighborhood is working-class, and we felt safe there. I did not notice any noise. The breakfast was fine, with a lot of selection including Indian samosas!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

This is a great place to stay if you are primarily interested in visiting NYC. The PATH train was easy to use and runs 24-7. Put enough money on the Metro card to ride the subway. They seem to be the same card.

GREAT LOCATION

Great location, great bed, great staff. It’s about a block and a half from the Path train. Only 20 or so minutes into the city. You can go to the WTC or to 33 st in Midtown. I took my girlfriend for her first trip to NY and she loved it. It was a great experience altogether. The bed was actually one of the most comfortable beds I have slept on at a hotel. The staff was very helpful. One note to keep in mind is to make sure check in is at 3pm. We got there early, but they held out bags and we left to explore the city. The area is fine during the day, but you may want to cab it back if coming back late at night.

2nd Time Here

This was our 2nd visit to this hotel. We stay here because it is reasonably priced and easy to get into New York City by Path train. The breakfast is really nice also. With the obscene prices of New York City hotels, this hotel is by far worth every penny. Only 15 minutes to get in to the City. Rooms are huge with a refrigerator and microwave...what more do you need.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Front desk will help you with directions. Just ask them. There is a diner close by with great food.
