Nice hotel...pretty pricey

I found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. Bar in the lobby was nice. Location is excellent as it is within a few blocks of 6th street.

6th street is nice if you are into the bar scene. Plenty of clubs with good bands too.

Fine hotel - go again

I chose to walk to my meetings but the valet was very courteous and attentive every morning. The lobby concierge was very chatty and asked me several times if I needed assistance. All around, I’d choose it over other hotels. And it is close to UT and stadium. And it wasn’t loud during game day either.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Just a few short blocks from music of Sixth St.

Not what I was hoping for

Besides the hotel restaurant, the hotel didn’t do anything clearly ’wrong’. It just wasn’t what I thought it would be based on the rating and price. The TV remote was hard to use, the pay-per-view froze during movies, and the vanity/sink were on the small side. However, the bed was extremely comfortable, most hotel staff were responsive and the view was ok.

Nice Hotel, Great Staff, Far from ACL

I went down for the ACL Music Festival. Only downside to the hotel was it was too far from the free shuttle pickup to make walking convenient, and then a cab ride down to the festival was about $35 with tip - it got expensive fast. But, if I am going to visit the downtown Austin area I would certainly stay at the Sheraton again. It was a lovely facility, had good breakfasts (made to order omelet and waffle bar + a buffet), and the staff was very helpful.

Traveler's tip on dining

Go down a block away from the Interstate and hook a right - there is a great little Mexican restaurant right up the hill. Serrano’s is the name I think. VERY Good and great atmosphere.

We’ll book here for all the next UT home games

Although the property is not brand new, it has been very tastefully renovated, and the lobby is bright and airy. We arrived several hours early on a home football game weekend (read: every hotel in town is booked solid), and our room was ready and spotless, and the staff made check-in and out a breeze.

4th of July Weekend Trip

Hotel was great. Location...it is located on what I would consider the edge of walking distance to 6th Street, the Warehouse District and the Capital. It took us about 10 min to walk to the beginning of official 6th Street bars but there were several bars on the 7th and 8th Street. It was quite a hike to the Warehouse District but was within walking distance. We also ventured to the Capital and once again, less than a 10 min walk. The hotel itself was nice. It has been recently remodeled and while not what I would consider fancy, it was nice. The room was clean, the bed extremely comfortable and we never had trouble catching an elevator. Room service was the usual but we found the hotel bar prices better than 6th Street, if you find you need a night cap.

Traveler's tip on dining

We stayed here over the 4th of July weekend for our 5th wedding anniversary and highly recommend Carmelos Restaurant. It is on 5th Street and a charming Italian restaurant - Carmelos Restaurant. We also ate at Eddie Vs and it was excellent seafood.

CLEAN & COMFORTABLE

Our weekend stay was great! It was very, very clean and the bed was really comfortable. Our dog was also able to stay there FREE of charge, and they did not even have to put us in a specific area. The hotel is in a great location and has a great pool. Next time we are in Austin we will stay here again.

Staying there again in 3 weeks.

Clean, close to 6th street, friendly staff. If you’re a girl, bring your own hair conditioner.

Very comfortable stay

The staff were friendly, especially in the hotel restaurant. The breakfast buffet was worth more than the cost and the pool and workout room were also nice.

Will definatly return!

I visited for 4th of July weekend, for my first trip to Austin. The Hotel was recently renovated and everything was in perfect clean condition. The hotel staff was extreamly courteous throughout the hotel, expecially the Vallet person remembered my name from the first time I gave it while handing over my keys to my car and was treated like a person and not a ticket number. My next stay in Austin will definatly be at the Sheraton

Not impressed

Although Hotel has had a recent renovation it is still very mch dated. The pool are is original and has not been renovated, rooms are not impressive - remind me of a 2 star hotel only paying a 4 star price. I will not stay again - not worth the money.

Disappointed

Rooms were much smaller than expected from a Sheraton for the price. Twice did food service run out of food during the convention I attended. Staff was not friendly

Nice hotel, but....

Very nice hotel. Great location. Nice bar in the lobbey. The room was a bit small, but I can live with that. The problem was that they ignored my wake up call on my last day and I missed my return flight. They did credit my credit card for a nights stay, but that was little consolation when stuck in the airport for 12 hours.

Comfortable room & great service

The room was clean and comfortable. The housekeeping and room service was great. There was just one thing about the Sheraton that annoyed me: Getting a 6:00 a.m. wake-up call on the day of my check-out when I did not ask for a wake-up call. Other than that, great stay.

Mostly a very nice place to stay

The housekeeping staff was outstanding. My room was clean, they replaced what I used each day without being asked, and when I forgot my phone charger, they had it delivered by overnight express to me! The hotel was undergoing construction, so the inside pool and spa were closed, which I hadn’t known and didn’t get a discount for. The outside pool backed up to a creek filled with homeless and drug addicts that don’t trespass, but stand around waiting for people to walk on the path. I was asked for money while I was checking out the pool by people that were down on the path. Later, staff warned me not to walk the path. The food isn’t good. I paid nearly $20 for a chicken club sandwich, and when I let them know that they forgot the bacon, they sent up two pieces of bacon on an uncovered saucer! Besides being exposed to every germ in the hotel, the bacon was cold. The 20% gratuity is built into the bill for room service, but that service wasn’t worth the 20%. Eat at the Roaring Fork, at 701 Congress. The food, service and prices are worth leaving the hotel for.

Traveler's tip on dining

Eat at the Roaring Fork! The appetizer salads are dinner sized, and they don’t skip on anything! The smoked trout on mixed greens is outstanding, as is the spinach, bacon, toasted pecan, etc. salad. The entrees are fabulous, too, and generous. Plus the ambience and service are great!

Comfortable stay

Good hotel to stay in Austin. Clean and comfortable, with very good service from the staff. For example, about 5 mins after we got to our room, the girl who checked us in at reception called to make sure the room was to our liking. That’s a first for me!

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Only a couple of minutes walk from 6th St and 15 min walk to the Warehouse district. Before you go look up what bands are playing at Stubbs BBQ which is just round the corner.

I’ll never stay here again

The hotel is currently under renovation, which means nothing works, huge eye sore, and unsatisfactory accommodations. The room gave my party sore throats which cleared up the minute you left the hotel. The front desk failed to give me my requested wake up call and failed to make sure there was a taxi outside at 4am to take us to the airport. Room service is extremely expensive and house keeping never made our rooms, even after I called and requested that they do. When staying in Austin, avoid the Sheraton. There are several other nice hotels to choose from.

Not impressed, for Club Level room and rate,

I stayed in the Club level floor, and there was no food in the hotel! There are no vending machines for guests, unless you want soda, and no mini bar? I found that strange. The bath was mediocre and the shower head was coming out of the wall. Also, the pool was blocked off due to construction, which some of the front desk staff and barmen, and housekeepers weren’t aware of. So, I was wondering around in my bathrobe for 20 minutes asking people if it was open and they could not give me a straight answer. The bar was poorly constructed. The main bar table is made out of a portable cork/wood table you could find at Target. Other than that, the Sheraton is close to most major city highlights, but it seems to be in a shady area, and I wouldn’t suggest walking out of the hotel after hours.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Ask the housekeeper’s for water, they will give you some from the back for free - so you don’t have to buy it from the room at 5 bucks a pop.
