Beautiful house! Great outdoor area & comfortable, clean outdoor furniture. The view was unbelievable. Alberto & Cynthia made dinner for us most nights - every one loved what they served. The golf cart was a hit with the 3 teens traveling with us.

Wonderfull seaside villa
My family and I stayed in Villa Gauguin for Christmas and New Year's holidays in 2020. I would like to praise first the reservation team of Akumal Villas (Martina and Maria). They made seamless our reservation, check-in and additional services contracting process (car rental, chef, taxis, etc). They responded quickly to all our questions and remained on top during our stay. Thanks very much!! The property was clean and the housekeepers were friendly, attentive and efficient in keeping everything clean. Alberto also was always keen to help, and available to drive us to the beach or the supermarket and even helped us organize a birthday party for my son (piñata included). The villa has a very nice location. The town of Akumal is nicely placed in between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, and Villa Gauguin has a privileged location by the sea. Although there's no sand by the villa, it's possible to safely dive into the sea or walk/swim to a beach close by. Otherwise, the main Akumal beach is just 8 minutes walk away from the Villa. Highly recommended!!

Pinching myself!
On line, this property obviously looks amazing--the pictures don't lie--well maybe a little--it is even better in person! Things to know: House features--there are lots of stairs, so be aware if this is an issue. The 5th bedroom is on the main floor and does not have a full bath (a half bath is right next door). Beds are comfy, towels are plentiful, internet/cell reception are fine. TV was great for movie night. A few snorkeling items are available. Plenty of seating areas to have a quiet moment on your own. Loungers and cushions are in good shape. No funky smells like some rentals have in warm climates. I do wish there had been a full length mirror. Staff--Alberto and Cynthia were amazing. They don't really speak English, but have a handy translation ap, that let us communicate quite clearly. Alberto has chef training and cooked us 2 wonderful dinners (coconut shrimp and beans to die for). He was readily available to answer questions and when we had some water issues due to a faulty pump switch though he couldn't fix the problem, he called on the property manger who had someone fix the situation right away. They were thorough in cleaning the house and unobtrusive. (Note, they do not put the loungers back at the end of the day--guests are responsible for that--but I'm sure if we had asked he would have). The area--everything you could want to do, see, eat, drink, buy is all in easy distance either by foot or golf cart. A cab can take you to other attractions with in a half hour or less drive. Simply put, the only thing you really need to do is look out to the water and enjoy. Safety--I felt completely safe in our area, even taking morning walks by myself. The house does have a big safe for locking away valuables. As in any area, you want to be vigilant, but I'd rate Villa Gauguin very safe. Other--there is little to no night life, of the 10 or so restaurants in the immediate area we visited 3 (2 of them twice) and all were very good (Que Onda was my favorite). Yal Ku is worth it and much easier than trying to go snorkeling from the rocks in front of the villa. Truly, I had to pinch myself multiple times during our week at Villa Gauguin--it was fantastic!

2nd Family Reunion
The 10 day stay at Villa Gauguin was a family reunion, 8 adults & 2 children, for the 2nd year in a row. The owner has always responded very quickly to any question and is in close contact with the on-site Caretakers, Alberto and Cynthia. A car is essential. Our familyloved this architecturally & artistically beautiful, comfortable and immaculately clean oceanfront home again this year... a home with a spectacular view of the Caribbean! All accommodations and amenities are true as written. We used the heated pool, Internet, cable TV,, air conditioning, kitchen, and spacious rooms daily. Laundry is available for a charge. Hot showers are easily accessible. The on-site caretakers, Alberto and Cynthia, are friendly, gracious, and responsive to any need one might have. They will cook meals the guests choose from a suggested menu and at an agreed time guests want. Breakfast for the family varied everyday: pancakes, ham & scrambled eggs, huevos motuleños, to name a few; and always with a platter of fresh fruit. The guacamole & homemade salsas were excellent! 4 Dinners were prepared... including fajitas, tacos with chicken or shrimp + shrimp cocktail. Alberto & Cynthia are good cooks who will only improve as they gain experience. The number and variety of sightseeing options in the greater Riviera Maya are exceptional: superior family water parks and eco-parks, Mayan ruin sites, children’s zoos, shopping, cooking classes. The family activities were varied and different between the 2 vacations because of all the choices. Akumal North is a gated community with restaurants, shops, small grocery stores, an ATM and snorkeling activities a person can walk, drive or ride a bike to. It is very safe! We hope to return to this paradise again!

We had a group of 10 women for a bachelorette party, and this house was absolutely perfect. Photos don’t even do it justice, and the house staff was superb. The food and drinks they prepared were great and it was so nice to not need to think about getting groceries or cooking or cleaning up while on vacation. I would definitely recommend this house!

Akumal family getaway
Our extended family of 10 found Villa Gauguin perfect for a week of relaxation. The home is in an awesome setting with remarkable views and easily accommodates a large group. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The upstairs TV room great for evening hangouts and game playing. The downstairs sitting room for relaxing with morning coffee while watching the sunrise. You can’t beat the view from the pool. Floating with drinks, chips, pico de gallo, guacamole and ceviche are a must. The lagoon is great for cooling off and having some snorkel fun. Really nice to have access right out front. The caretakers Carlos and Nayla prepared excellent meals and we tested most of the menu. Be flexible when ordering fish as they only buy what was caught that morning. It was always delicious. Having breakfast prepared before daytrips was nice. Final dinner/feast- Cochinita Pibil (cooked all day & delicious) plus Lobster plus Garlic Shrimp plus Coconut Shrimp. Still not sure how they were able to pull it off. If you’re feeling a bit tired, Que Onda restaurant is across the street. Everywhere in Akumal is good. Take some pesos and head across the bridge into Akumal for street tacos. Enjoy your visit. Akumal is a great little hideaway.

Spectacular and Relaxing
This home is exactly how it was presented on VRBO. It was spectacular and very relaxing. The real bonus of this home are the caretakers. Francisco and Gladis made our visit extra special. They couldn't have been more accommodating for any and everything we asked. We had unlimited margaritas and guacamole every day all day. The patio overlooking the ocean was so spectacular there was no reason to have meals anywhere else - and they were all delicious. It was easy to get in and out of the ocean and we snorkeled the first couple of days. The water did get rough the last couple of days, but we walked the 1 block walk to Yal-Ku Lagoon and snorkeled there in the brackish water. I would recommend to go early - lots of tour busses by mid-afternoon. Also, as a bonus, there is a small restaurant literally across the street where we wandered over for afternoon cocktails and snacks. Kudos to the Owners - it was warm and inviting and even the property manager stopped over to give us some tips just in case anyone got hurt snorkeling. I gave it 5 Stars and will return.

Magical setting for a family getaway
Arriving at this home situated by the Lagoon in Akumal is exciting. The home itself is architecturally beautiful and the furnishings suit it perfectly. There are four good size bedrooms with private baths on the second floor (plus a large media room with futons) and a bedroom on the first floor. Plenty of opportunity from every room to enjoy the total glass exterior facing east and a perfect size pool for fun with the kids. Beyond the infinity pool are rocks that lead into the lagoon and all of us age 3-70 were able to utilize the rocks to gain entry for swimming and snorkeling. The rental includes daily housekeeping and a cook which is a pleasure , making vacation much more of a vacation. A/C worked perfectly. There are some good restaurants close by and Tulum is about 40 min south. Great beaches include those that are private reserves. Definitely drive to Coba and hire a guide, swim the Cenotes , zip line and cavern tours close by this is a great way to have a family vacation and at the end of the day to come home to this gem of a house is just wonderful.

Villa Gauguin: An elegant home offering location, hospitality, the morning sunrise and ocean views
Our family vacation included 8 adults and 2 grandchildren ages 16 mo. and 51/2 yrs. The owner tended to our pre-arrival needs by answering all questions within a few hours. We were greeted by Francisco and Gladys, the on site caretakers, who could not be more gracious, helpful, and responsive to any needs or questions! Truly, they are ambassadors for Villa Gauguin and Yucatán! The home is immaculate, with beautiful artwork and stunning views of the ever changing ocean . All rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms are large with ample closets for storage. The beds are comfortable. Dining al fresco on the patio is also available. The infinity pool is large with a shallow pool for toddlers. It can be heated for an additional cost. The pièce de résistance was having Francisco and Gladys prepare delicious meals for the family from their own extensive menu.(a modest additional cost) They are accomplished cooks! We found dining “at home” freed us up from meal prep & clean up making our vacation relaxing and cost effective. With advance notice, our final dinner included guacamole and shrimp ceviche, lobster tail, shrimp, octopus with sauce and pargo filet- all done on the grill, salad, grilled zucchini and eggplant. Francisco’s frozen margaritas...the best! Unique activities are a short 15-30 minute drive Some of us enjoyed Xel-Ha(fabulous!), Tulum Ruins, & Playa del Carmen shopping (restaurants galore). Akumal is very laid back and quiet offering snorkeling in the lagoons, walking the streets, enjoying oceanside restaurants and bars. It’s a very safe area! Several bodegas & small grocery store provide essentials. Beaches are available, but bring your water shoes/sandals as the shore is rocky. Our family experience exceeded our expectations at Villa Gauguin. We look forward to another vacation stay next year! Dan and Wendy, Chicago

Incredible Property
Our stay at Villa Gauguin was wonderful. The home is beautiful - plenty of space to spread out. Sizeable bedrooms with nearly all having en suite bathrooms. The icing was, of course, the incredible views and enjoying constant dips in the pool. Highly recommend utilizing the staff for cooking service. We did for about 80% of our meals and were very pleased. Delicious. Recommend renting a car if you want to explore the area. Or, ask Francisco to order your taxis for you.

Gorgeous Home with excellent staff
The house was so much more than we expected. There was lots of room for our family of 7. Most every room had a fabulous view of the ocean. Francisco and Gladys were delightful. They served delicious meals and kept the house perfect. The kids were is the pool most of every day and loved swimming in the lagoon. We were there is August and it was really not. The AC did great in the bedrooms, but did not cool the great room enough to use except in the evening. Otherwise it was a 5 star visit. I highly recommend a visit to Villa Gauguin.

Amazing Rental Home and Location
We had an amazing time staying at Villa Gauguin! Dominique kindly accommodated our group of 15 adults and we stayed for 8 nights. The house itself is spectacular and is even better than the pictures. When you walk through the front door, you have a breathtaking view of the ocean. The backside of the house is completely glass, making for great views from the majority of the rooms. The house was spacious for our group and had plenty of room for all of us. We had Francisco and Gladys prepare our first two meals, which were fantastic, and we filled the 2 fridges with groceries and cooked during the rest of our stay. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals and we made good use of the blender and dishwasher. Francisco and Gladys cleaned daily, which was no small task given the size of our group, and were available if we needed help with anything. They are extremely kind and always had a smile on their faces. The rooms are large and each outfitted with A/Cs, which are on auto-timers based on the time of day. The pool was a good temperature and we enjoyed using the lounge chairs and the gigantic outdoor table for dinner several nights. Wild iguanas visit the backyard daily and we saw agoutis and coatis on a few occasions. The house is right off of the ocean and there was wonderful snorkeling steps away. The nearby lagoon had rays and fish, and we even rented a boogie board to catch some waves behind the house. The house is inside a gated community that includes a great beachfront bar and we felt secure during our entire stay. We rented 2 minivans and had easy parking for both. We would've used a washer and dryer if available but that is the only thing I would change about this house. We will definitely visit again and highly recommend this rental!

Fabulous
We absolutely loved Villa Gauguin. We came with our kids ages 14-24 party of 8 for my 50th birthday. We arrived very early before check in and it wasn’t a problem to drop our luggage off. Then we grabbed a cab and went to the Monkey Sanctuary for a few hours when we arrived back at the Avila Francisco and Gladys prepared yummy margaritas and snacks for us a few hours before our dinner they prepared. The home is beautiful and spacious the daily maid service was awesome they watch over every need you had. I ran most mornings and cane back to the lovely breakfast they prepared. The view from the pool area is so pretty. We spent a lot of time just hanging by the pool. If you leave just be sure to lock the doors and lock up valuables in the safes. Just like you would anywhere. The ate at the the three restaurant that are very close We rented a golf cart which was great We look forward to going back.

Beautiful location and view on Akumal Bay
The location and views really are spectacular. We watched the red ball of sun rise over the eastern sea horizon from the master BR in the morning. Our younger grandchildren pretty much lived in the infinity pool whenever at the house and the older ones snorkeled from the shore, although it was rocky, and saw manta and sting rays, sea turtles and many schools of fish. The house is large with large bedrooms, baths and closets, but is showing bit of wear - the large glass back door leaks in rain as does the skylight above it and some of the furnishings are showing wear. The very large and heavy front door could potentially be a danger to young children if the back glass door is also open as strong winds often blow from shore. The caretakers, Francisco and Gladys, are delights and very good cooks, but I was surprised at the large tip that the book of instructions said was expected. I would have felt better if this had been explained as part of the property description and fees on the website. Written instructions are needed for the TV and other electronics and it would be nice if the AC fans could be controlled so as not to blow on you while sleeping, although I was very impressed at how quiet they were. Overall, all 12 of us had a very enjoyable, 9 day vacation at Villa Gauguin.

Beautiful home, amazing hospitality and great location
Our extended family of nine (ranging from ages 6 to 76) spent a week at Villa Gauguin over the holidays. It honestly felt like a two week vacation! I have never felt so relaxed and comfortable on a family trip. Dominique was very helpful and communicative as we prepared for the trip and planned out meals and activities. Upon arrival Francisco and Gladys were so welcoming and helpful for my sister and her family who arrived a day before myself, my husband, my kids and grandpa. Villa Gauguin was a perfect home base for our week. My husband got his morning run in early each day while the rest of us took our time enjoying coffee and the sunrise from the pool area or balconies. Francisco had stocked the kitchen for us so we could make easy breakfasts together when we wanted to head out early to the beach or visit a ruin. He and Gladys also prepared dinner for us on four nights which was amazing and plentiful (loved the Mexican plate, fajitas, green Chile enchiladas and tacos! Can’t forget lime soup made by request as well as delicious and ever present margaritas, guacamole and salsa. The flan, cheese pie and chocolate cake were big winners and I think his banana pudding is the best I’ve ever had). We enjoyed simple beach day trips to Akumal and Tulum and snorkeled in the lagoon. The best part was to then come back and let kids play in the pool while parents and grandpa relaxed in the lounge chairs. A few days were spent playing in the pool all morning, then we walked down the road to get afternoon ice cream, a few groceries or beers, then walk back to the house and settle in for a lazy afternoon before dinner. I have to reiterate how warm and friendly our hosts were as well. My twin daughters are learning Spanish and my chatty one spent a whole afternoon learning how to cook soup and make guacamole with Francisco and Gladys. They made special kid friendly margaritas the next few days which the kids loved. I read two whole chapter books (my daughter wanted to stress that point) and we played card games at the dining room table each night which was the best. This was one of the best family vacations ever and we look forward to coming back in the future!!!

Beautiful home, peaceful location!
We had an amazing stay for 5 days with 10 adults. Akumal is one of our favorite places to visit, and it was such a treat for us to stay at the Villa. Fransisco and Gladys who are the caretakers also cooked many of our meals for us. They were accommodating to vegetarians, and we LOVED the food they made! Beautiful, inside and out!
Villa Gauguin is simply beautiful. The pictures do not offer the property "proper" justice. From the moment you open the front door, the picturesque blue vista is simply breathtaking. You just stand there and take it in and you know you have made the right choice. There is seemingly a view from everywhere. With the exception of the kitchen area and immediate dining area (11 people in kitchen at once is a bit too comfy), the house feels resort like, there is space for everyone to feel as if you were alone in the beauty and tranquility that is Villa Gauguin. Three of the five bedrooms offer an ocean view, the other two bedrooms offer a view of the idyllic setting that is Villa Gauguin. The outside patio and pool area is expansive, even for the 11 in our party. Ample seating, morning sunrises, infinity pool and lounge seating make it thee "go to" area of the house. There is a place for everyone and if you think there isn't, take a walk from the pool area directly below on to the rocks, grab a seat and let the misty breeze of the Caribbean wash over you. This is luxury, simplicity and elegance at it's best. You're away from Akumal by ten minutes and, for us, that was a good thing, think serenity. You can snorkel right off the property into the YalKu Lagoon, calmer waters, or into the Caribbean. Guests have stated that the best snorkeling was towards the Caribbean. Word to the wise, wait for calmer waters if you choose snorkel towards the Caribbean as the waves run directly towards the property. The nice thing is, once the sun rises high, your afternoons and evenings will be nothing but trade winds and shade. To say we were impressed is an understatement, Villa Gauguin is impressive, fond memories were made here. The property is managed by Francisco and his wife. Francisco is knowledgeable in all things Villa Gauguin AND a great cook. He is on par with any restaurant in Akumal, so if you need a night in, set the table and let Francisco provide the meal. You will not be disappointed. We loved the Green Chicken Enchiladas and the Grilled Fresh Fish was heavenly. Simply add your drink of choice for the perfect evening "at home". We were married at Villa Gauguin and for our time and expenditure, I cannot think of a better place or better people, Francisco and Gladys, to have been a part of it. We are already thinking anniversary parties here, it would be our Hangover II, if you will. Thank you Francisco, Gladys and Villa Gauguin for the memories.

Beautiful house Amazing views
We had an amazing time with family. When we first opened the front door, our jaws all dropped to the amazing scenery displayed by the floor to ceiling windows. The house was clean and bright! The space was perfect for the group of 7 people we were. Large bedrooms with amazing views! We had the master and I totally refused to close the blinds at night as the view was spectacular especially with the full moon reflection on the ocean that I could stare at from laying in bed. The sunrise were as spectacular. The lagoon was ideal for us more so than a beach since we had the beautiful infinity pool. The snorkeling in the lagoon was so breathless that I spent over an hour snorkeling the first day! The water was warmer than in the pool! Lol. We chose to eat out a few times and the restaurants were all amazing and the floor even better and not expensive. We rented golf cart for our stay which I found expensive at $40 US per day but we'll worth it! I would definitely go back with a large group of people.

Amazing Villa, Amazing Staff, Amazing Views
I couldn't have asked for a better experience. First off, Dominique was very friendly and responsive to all of my questions in preparation for our trip. Secondly, the property is simply gorgeous and easily fit our group of 8 adults. Believe it or not, the villa is even better in person than in the pictures. We had originally planned several excursions into Tulum, but found ourselves wanting to maximize our time on the property. We arranged a couple yoga sessions by the pool and found it to be an incredibly relaxing place to meditate. Also, best discovery of the weekend was that the kiddie pool doubles as an adult shallow lounging area. Last but not least, Francisco and Gladys are the best. They took care of everything we needed... picture beers, guac, and pico de gallo waiting in the fridge every morning. All of the meals they prepared were excellent and the desserts were to die for. They also kept the villa spotless during our stay. Overall, we had an amazing trip and I would definitely return and recommend Villa Gauguin to my friends and family.

A peaceful and luxurious weekend
We have an adult family of 7 with one toddler and wanted to find a quiet, safe and comfortable place in which we could spend time strengthening our family ties. Villa Gauguin was the ideal setting. The house is better than in the photos. Very clean and neat and setting is gorgeous. The amenities of restaurants, shops, entertainment and yoga met all of our needs and desires. We rented a car in Cancun and driving directions were easy to follow. Snorkeling was one of the best ever and our family has been fortunate to have travelled the world extensively. We have been in a family Caribbean vacation approximately 40 times in our life and this was among our top 3 favorite ever. We would highly recommend Villa Gauguin. BTW...Francisco and his family made us lobster one evening which was so yummy. Great help and care. Also the grocery delivery with Gessica was flawless.
