Good location shame about the boiler
Posted Oct 29, 2011
Having visited Amsterdam previously, I chose this apartment on the location. The Jordaan is lovely and there are lots of non-touristy bars and restaurants.
I do not like hotel accomodation as I resent being tied to a timeframe and like to relax and do things at my own pace.
Unfortunately, this trip did not turn out to be relaxing. On arrival we were informed by the local agency rep that there was a problem with the boiler. We were assured that an engineer was calling the following day and we should just reset the boiler if it went off.
We found ourselves doing this with increasing regularity and the first morning I had a very cold shower despite my husband standing by the boiler and trying to reset. After two visits from the engineer that day the problem was still not resolved. We complained but did not want to move apartments at 8pm as we had already wasted most of the evening.
The following day was my birthday and I would have happily gone home at this point, having got up early to yet again receive the engineer on his third visit. Luckily, he finally fixed the problem but by now the trip had been ruined and we had only one day remaining.
Whilst the owner left us a bottle of wine as an apology and the agent did act quickly upon each phone call, I can't help feeling annoyed at spending half our trip either on the phone to the agent or sharing our (open plan)apartment with Chris, the engineer!
