The staff were helpful and the place was great.

The location is excellent, I could walk everywhere I needed or wanted to go. The courtyard is beautiful too. My room was small and very bare bones, the main positive was the bed- comfortable and the bedding was clean and very pleasant. The bathroom could use some very easy improvement- I found the lack of any place to hang or put a change of clothing quite uncomfortable, even a simple extra hook on the wall would help and also it was definitely time to get a new non-slip mat in the shower, those are not expensive at all and it was kind of gross for this level of a hotel. I hope that helps. Was a pleasant stay overall.

My husband and I are vey frequent travelers all over the world so we have experienced a large sampling of hotels. This is only the third negative review we’ve written in over 20+ years. We were very disappointed in our stay at The Shakespeare Hotel. We were first given a room that looked out into the street and very close to the road looking into a driveway. We like to sleep with our windows open and with the noise and passers by it would have been both unsafe and noisy. We were moved to another but smaller room on the 2nd floor, a degrade, but at least we could open the windows. There is no elevator and lots of steps to the 2nd floor. Also, no place where you could buy a glass of wine in the hotel and sit in a cozy area. However the worst was the single room our friend was given (James Joyce) which should not have cost more than 25 euros but she paid over 100 euros. It looked out on the parking lot and there was hardly enough room to move around. The tv obstructed her window view. The last night of our 3 night stay there was a wedding in the room right above our friend’s room. We asked how long the wedding would go. The receptionist did not know. Well, it went long enough into the night that our friend lost 3/4s of a nights sleep. In other reputable hotels that have had weddings they have notified us in advance of the event and given us the opportunity to cancel our hotel, understanding that noise from a wedding might interrupt our sleep. We do not recommend this hotel.
